My goodness what a fantastic and to the point video. Thank you.
I bought a Crane Song Falcon based off your recommendation. I'm loving it. Thanks!
Does it sound like an LA2a?
@@blazersaint144 It's more versatile.
Cheers for this Paul ! Interesting stuff
I'm just getting into 500 world, this is a great video! Thanks!
It's HUGELY addictive.....and much worse if you get into the DIY thing :)
Same I’m new to the 500 world. Just bought the 511 preamp and 511 EQ.
Thank you, Paul. Vey helpful video!
You're so right, my 2 Shadow Hills GAMA preamps impart an incredible range of character. I often resample through them. My Better Maker 2 Bus compressor, again, is a keeper because its so versatile. Im waiting for a pair of Maag Eq 2s. Apparently two less eq bands gives you more headroom. This will compliment my radial, a real work horse allowing me to hookup pedals for processing and sound design. I'm doing a mic shoot out in a few weeks. With the mics KMR are sending over we intend to check out a few pampas and also the Standard Audio stretch for another channel that can give me some air around 15K.Great video, by the way.
Hi do u know Is there any plugins that have that silk feature ?
My name is Chris and I am an addict
Hey Chris
BIg Help Thanks... Im looking to put together a rig for my prog rock that is mobile enough to travel with us for live recording. Sounds like the weighty Presonus Is exactly what we are looking for. Being heavy on bass, i appreciate the tips you have here.
thx for your insights. how would the "cranesong falcon compressor" compare to the "n90-drc 500 phoenix audio compressor/expander"?
Thanks for this. Do you not feel the need for a hardware bus comp? Are you handling that with a plug in? Or do you have a separate outboard unit for that?
for vocals you recomend falcon compressor? im going to buy 500 series, im looking for compressor, only for vocals, that works great on tracking.. falcon its great??
Great video. I have a Maag PREQ4 but considering an API 512v with API 550 EQ, or Neve 1073LB with Neve 1073LBEQ. Vocals with Telefunken TF29.
Hey did you compare the lindell fet-comp with its IGS Alter equivalent (which is more expensive, but seems to be more or less the same type of fet-comp) in terms of build-quality, sound etc.? And why specifically the Phoenix 1073 and not the black lion clone or an original neve?
Do you find the Phoenix would be better fit on a male r&b vocal? I’m toss between this one, Neve and BAE. I’m new to this your help is greatly appreciate
Have you tried the IGS blue stripe compressor? If so how does it compare to falcon?
It's nice to see that these are the modules you're sticking with. Even with some of them being considerably cheaper options compared to what's on the market. I'm sure you would have tried a Neve 1073 at some point. Did you not like the sound of it? I'm curious as I'm on the market for pres and would have thought a Neve would be the ultimate and a longterm choice.
sold my 1073 and kept the shadow hills mono gama. amazing pre.
7 years on, have any of your recommendations changed since then?
Live it
Is the new 1073LB worth the money?
Thanks for sharing your experience with the modules. Given this video is several years old, I wanted to ask if this group of modules are still your choices. I'm considering rack mount vs 500 series. Would you recommend one format vs another? I need mic pres, a compressor, eq and a summming mixer. Going for a hybrid engineering approach with a DAW and analog hw. Thanks for the help!
Brian, I know that this is an older comment, but considering your interests and needs, I would suggest to go the 500 series route. However, as you well know, going the standard "rack mount" route would allow you to do exactly what you want to do as well. One thing to consider is your space. If you have a great (and quite) sound space for recording and for referencing, the rack mount route may do you better. Rack mount hardware traditionally have a much higher power allowance than 500 series units (although 500 series have been improving in this area over the years). What did you decide to go with?
@@videojason8735 No problem on reply time. With virus times, I've been spending more time trying to figure out hw needs for creating my own music and for live streaming. I have not bought any rack or 500 series hw yet. I need to experiment and hear what works best with what I make. So, that probably makes 500 more feasible to buy and sell 500s until I find what works. Don't think there is any other way to know what to pick. That said, I've considered getting a JHS Color Box v2 (neve clone) for live and heard a couple great videos on the Overstayer rack gear, the SSL Fusion and the Dangerous Music summing mixer. Its tough given my needs because either way, its a commitment of $5k to $10k. Be great to get it mostly right the first time.
Hi, please pardon my ignorance but I am very much interested in knowing how can I use these outboard gears successfully with my DAW, can you give me some clue on that? Thank you
If you can bypass the cheaper pres in your setup and patch into say an insert return convert direct to digital it's a wonderful clean signal
soooo... whats going to end up in the last available slot?
The Lindell preamp messed up on me only 4 weeks after buying it. Pots went crackly and weird, so got rid in favour of API :)
Benny Turner well that wasn’t a hard choice dude.
Thanks, good to know.
Would you advise to invest in 500-series to process synths sounds and audio-samples (not mic)?
blue name seconding. The main reason is I wanna warm and fatten up cold digital sounds
Nicely explained thx for sharing.
What do you think of Golden Age pre73.
Also the compressor for the price of course. I like NEVE 1073, however I can't afford ot also doing it as hobby.
Thx .
Get Warm Audio mic pre, they are built better than Golden Age
@@lightafluident.9950 thx
What is best for distortion for a guitar rig of 500's?
I saw you use the Maag in your modern pop vocal video. How does the plug in from UAD measure up to the hardware?
I own a real maag eq4 and did comparison, id say the real one is 10% better. Doesn't seem like a lot right ..... but if you apply that 10% improvement to 15-30 stem tracks it really adds up to make a big difference.
I would describe it as having a three dimensional quality, retains the transients better.
It doesn't. 😂.
@@ProducersHouse It's my favorite plug in EQ on Vox. For sure.
anyone got a used fredenstein bento 2 or any lunchbox selling or want to trade?
Pramps huh
demonstrate, pls demonstrate
Quit doing the Michael Caine impression and just tell me about the modules.
Jesse Cole 😂😂😂
A lot of speech is a little sound.
I have to leave early from those awful sounds made swallowing or something into the mic. Just painful.
