- Hey guys, so this is by far my most requested video - the service and maintenance cost of my 2005 Ford ikon flair. As many of you know, I bought this car second hand, 5 years ago - as my first car.
Owning it, over 5 years, has been a mixed bag, the driving feel it offers, is unmatched my modern cars, as is the strong build quality (for a 15 year old car, its very good), however the maintenance has been a pain, a real pain.
Anyway all the pain, is now out publicly in this video, so you guys needn't make the mistake I did.
1 lakh cars, are very intriguing and many want to buy their first car, on the cheap (like me)

Costs associated are high. Parts were difficult to find even in Chennai. This is why we had to let go of our beloved 1.6 ikon in 2017. Bought it in 2005.
Still miss it.
Alto can't be compared with Ikon..

Hi Bro, your presentation is superb and detailed. I have a Jeans Blue Ford Ikon Flair 1.3 Petrol from 2014. I bought it for 1.3 Lakh from first owner. I should say that the first owner gave me as if new and we'll maintained. Even today, I get upto 15 kms in city and upto 19 w/o AC in highways. My top speed is still 120 kmph and car is very stable. But luckily it has not been a costly car... I too changed my battery, tyres, oils, alternator repair, coolant leakage problem, silencer change etc over the years... I can't recollect the total charges but it should be nearly 50K.
But still I will choose Ikon over Maruti because the total weight of this car is 1/3rd more than Hyundai and Suzuki which will give you more stability in highways. Most of the cars now launched are very weight less which shakes in highways if a bus or lorry pass by, most of them must have experienced this...
If Government doesn't enforce law of scrapping vehicles after it's life period and if parts of Ikon are easily available, then I will not change this car... It's a DRIVER'S CAR...

I had ford ikon 1.6. Used it for 6 years and sold in 2011 and replaced with Fiesta classic. Nothing will give the pure driving pleasure like Ford.

I have 2007 Ford ikon flair 1.3 Petrol it's a best car and powerful car bought it for 1 lakh in 2016 from that time I am using it and fall in love with it. Yes it's bit expensive to maintain I had spent over 60k till now but the drive feel the confidence it gives is the best. It returns millage around 13 in city and 18 on highways. And I own a waganoR also there is no comparison in between Ford vs Maruti. ford is ford no brand in segment can come close to it's build quality it's drive feel and comfort. I personally feel there is nothing in maruti except cheaper maintainance and millage except this Ford is 🔥
If you want to count it, (cost), then you can't afford it.

Parts replacement done Fan 10K, Suspension 17k, Steering Hydraulics 17K, Starter Kit 7K, Tyres 20K, Batteries Twice 8K, Thermostat 12K
Total 91K
Car has run about 90,000 Kms as of now
AC Evaporator Coil to be replaced now 11K
With AC City 9 to 10 kmpl
Long distance 18 kmpl
Still don't feel like changing this car

A modern day sub-4 metre sedan, petrol would be at least 7 lakhs, entailing an EMI of Rs 14,000 per cent, and Rs 2,000 per month for insurance. With maintenance cost at Rs 700 per month. Totalling Rs 200,000 per year. My Ikon averages an Annual Maintenance including insurance at Rs 25,000 per year, including tyre, suspension and battery change.
Comparing ikon with auto sorry alto is a stupid idea.
At least if v compare it with maruti swift, it will cost u 7 lakhs, moreover just for insurance u have to spend about 15 thousand yearly. Plus after 5 years u may sell it for half the price. Plus for the loan u should have to pay about one lakh Rupees as a interest. So according to my knowledge u r in the profit, saved a lot of money. Moreover the safety which Ford can provide, which u cannot even dream about maruti tin cans.

Keep the r.p.m. of the Ikon between 1500 to 2000 in the highway, by changing the gears with alacrity, and at 1300 to 1500 in the city; you will be rewarded with a mileage of 16/18 kpl in the highway and 11/12.5 kpl in the city.
It's only depends by proper maintenance and service, I owned a 1.3 flair model 2005 ikon, it's a well maintained one, after that I bought a 1.6 rocam engine ikon, that also am maintaining very good, I have other car's like polo, ecosport. But never beat the 1.6 petrol ikon. Accordingly ford have a little bit maintenance cost than others like maruthi, Hyundai etc...

We have a Ford ikon, been 6 years with the Ford ikon, One battery change, engine oil changed thrice, spark plug once. It is a work horse with the most durable parts.

I am having 2008 model ford ikon flier petrol same black. 2023 September only renue the fc....i am in perungudi.... every year we are facing flad...but still now car running condition is very good...i never buy Alto... another 10 years i am planning to keep this car...now only i am thinking to do some tinkering... This is very good car....body and engine ,interior every thing is very good....if i drive 10 hours continuously i will not feel tired.....i love this car.

My favourite car ikon
I am haing 1.4 diesel ikon. I had purchased for 1.15. And it's already run around 68000 km. Now it's around 88000 in 4 years. It's well maintained, hence there was no higher expenditure on it till d today. Except d regular servicing it's normal cost. It's true d spares are costly than maruti and others but d original spares quality is best hence they are durables. Driving experience is best It's JOSH Machine and very best 4 controlling. My car's break and clutch is hard to some extent.comparitevely new car's.rest is d best
I recently bought an ikon 1.3L Flair for 1.12Lacs , I know its too expensive but the condition is good so I merely bought and now the guy who went on white board ( economy class) bus once is going on a own board vehicle now!

I have a 15 year old Alto and Ford Ikon Flair too. It's not possible to drive or sit in an Alto for more 3 hours comfortably in Assam roads. In the Ikon, one could drive and be driven in, comfortably for 9/10 hours or 750 kilometers. Even better than the Ikon is the Ford Fiesta B299. If required for the highway, the Alto, simply won't do. Alto is best for city traffic.

Being an old, idle the engine for one minute, prior to driving out and shutting off. Drive gently only on idling power, depress the accelerator pedal for more power, only after the temperature needle has fully risen.
Finally I purchased Ford ikon 1.3 flair petrol just 20 days back a genuine sedan car with lot of comforts in it. Car was in extremely in excellent condition single owner driven around 60000 km till now . everything was fine but the mileage was the main issue in it 😖

And not even avarage 10k per annum maintenance changed ignition coil,starter. Motor and power windows switch set on driver side all below 10k
And instead of traveling in alto I would travel in a bus😀

Look at other options and see. Buying a perfect car for 1.3L is better than buying a bad car for 60k and spending another 60k in repairs right?

Hi, probably around 15-20k minimum. Maintenance is normal only, but if you don't use the car often, the AC gas tends to leak out/go dry.

Check the mileage. Its very low for 2001 car. Also FC will need renewal again, my advise is not to get such an old car. Look for a 2007/8 model, it'll serve you for longer time.

My Ford ikon gives 18 in Highway and 11 in the cities moreover do you expect to buy a horse and ride on it without giving food for it Yes I agree I do bought my car for 1.2 lakhs and spent 1 lakh but only 50k went for the service and other 50 I spent for the comfortability and not on internal mechanisms do you think alto will give the comfort of an Ikon moreover if you need the same type of car in Maruthi you need to spend 3.5 lakhs for a second car and I think that 2.2 lakhs is much better than that

Yes, definitely. If possible get a trusted mechanic to come along with you. Also verify the genuiness of the mileage. 38k is quite low for an ikon.

@@anandranjan it's not a meter tampered because the seller have another two cars one is fortuner and breeza but ford ikon is shut in shed from past three, four years and car is still servicing in showroom, they only come and pick up for service on time

Sorry to say bro but where is the peace of mind , we should always be struggling to fix something or the other.. Instead buy a used hatchback like Figo, Chevrolet Beat or even Toyota Corolla, Old gen Honda City ..Never the Ford Ikon or Skoda Laura or Octavia..I have struggled a lot buying an used TATA Manza , thought that it is the same engine which is der in swift and other popular cars but things have changed drastically..Sold it two years back and bought Tata Tiago XT manual petrol (new) ..I'm completely happy now

It costed around 13k in parts alone for all 4 shock absorbers, springs are not changed - shocks were all new (brand Gabriel)
Labor for install was around 2k.
Do note: this was around 3 years ago. Prices would have definitely increased now...
@@JRSCars I am from ranchi. So here the service center doesn't provide the parts over the shelf. I either need to get all the work done at the service center or buy the parts in the open market and get it done from my own mechanic. So did you buy the parts from the service center itself or from the market?

I want to buy 2nd hand car. I am bit confused between Honda City upto 2013 and hyundai I10 upto 2013-15. Considering the price both are almost same cost in used market. Which one should I buy considering the maintanence and extra expenses. I am ok with 1k - 2k extra pay but not more that that. Also this will be my first car and my monthly running will be very less may be 150km at max and metro city use. Kindly suggest.
Hi, since it your first car, I suggest hyundai i10. The reasons are below:
1. Being a hatchback, it'll be easier to drive and boost your confidence, as dimensions are smaller.
2. Maintenance will also be cheaper, considering you can get a newer car for the same price.
3. Mileage will also be better with i10.
Honda City is an amazing car, but as it gets older, it can get expensive to fix...

I would go for Honda City.. I have i10 2011 model, this vehicle do have a very sluggish engine, max power at around 6000 rpm.. If you want to keep your speed less than 80kmph go for i10. Honda City maintenance is less compared to my Maruti SCross.. Worth going for City as first car.. But be aware, you will be used to soft handling and convenience of Honda, which makes you bored at other cars..
Brother I am getting ford ikon for 80k and also 4th owner car and he is selling within 6 months and giving reason as a parking problem so don't know price is appropriate or not car is 2005 model also it's cng car
Hi bro. What is the odometer reading? How had it been maintained?
Check service and part replacement records.
If all is good, negotiate for 60 or 70k, as it is 4th owner.
As per my videos, you know the trouble points of ikon and cost to fix, so take an appropriate decision.

@@JRSCars I feel cost for 50k because as per your video it may cause more amount for engine servicing and all like alternator and suspension which is more costly odometer is 50k don't know but 80k is too much as he is reselling car in 6 months

I have a ikon for buying 2003 model the owner is quoting 35k. If I spend on clutch, silencer and shock absorbers the car will be ready in another 25000.
FC will also be required.
Get the car properly checked by a mechanic before buying also.

I will never sell my Ikon, I service it once a year. No problems with my ikon. I have a 1.6 it's much stronger. I changed my tyres ones and did the exhaust once. You cannot do a video like this if you leaf your car in floods.
Hi buddy, just coz I had issues doesn't mean others will have.
I'm just sharing my experience and my costs.
Also apart from wheel bearings and starter motor, nothing else was coz of floods.
Also, my City was also in the flood, but wheel bearings and starter motor is still perfect!
And I would hv moved my cars if I knew the flood will come, but in 2015 no alert was given.

As this car doesn't have ABS, it would be safer to downshift to the 3rd gear, prior to hard braking.
How many kms it ran for the past 5 Yrs. I have 2010 Diesel Ford Ikon. I assumed like 1.5Rs/Km as maintenance cost.
Around 23k km in 5 years.
Today my motoring cost is just 10% of that of a EURO 6 car.
But it's a booming economy, people have money to throw, given the Modinomics.

Check for engine service history, accident history and what parts have been changed bro. If possible take a good mechanic and go with you, to check everything properly.

Approach T.I. Ford at Naharani Path, Guwahati. Clutch, suspension, tyres and belts would have to be replaced every 60,000 kilometers or 7 years, costing Rs 50,000 + 6000 p.a. for running repairs + 7000 for insurance. Yes, a good Ford Ikon is as expensive as the Alto. Provided you have a ear for odd sounds and fix them promptly and drive with care.

Also, if car is in perfect mechanical condition, then in city maybe 10-12 kmpl you can get, Highway 14-16 is possible. But it is very sensitive to driving style
