  • 1931 RCA VICTOR Model RE-19 Phonograph/Radio. Just brought this home yesterday. I'm happy to discover that it actually seems to work just great!
It plays 33 or 78 rpm discs. One of the first phonographs made to play 33 rpm records, which were offered by RCA-Victor in 1931 and were called Program Transcriptions.
    Pretty cool!

I have a similar one from the 1930/40s!

I can see why Philco designed the "No Squint, No Squat, No Stoop" control-dial design on its consoles in the Mid-Thirties! I have a 1933 RCA 331 Duo...the controls are similar to the RE-19. The 331 has an automatic record ejector changer, and also plays the 331/3 RCA "Program Transcription" Recordings. This format was ahead of its time and was a commercial failure.

Please be aware that this machine was made to play a 33 rpm record that was made briefly in the 1930s with standard 78 type grooves, this was to increase playing time. It is not intended to play todays microgroove 33 LP which did not come along until the late 1940's

Yes, it plays 33 rpm as long as they are RCA Program Transcription records. It doesn't play 33 rpm LP records with Microgroove, but I'm sure everybody knows that.

Love it! Did you check out the electronics to be sure it's ok. It sounds great. I have a Victor VE-7-26x Electrola from 1929. All restored. I like yours because it's so compact and has the cobra hood arm. Also that is plays 33 and 78 records. Can I ask what you paid for it. Mine was very expensive. I have videos on here of it playing.

The tonearm itself is a work of art. I'm a little confused though. Is there an actual pickup in the cartridge? I'm guessing there is. It does look like a steel needle but I'm thinking that there is a pickup where the needle is and gets transferred electronically to the amplifier section. It sounds great though.

Yes there is a cartridge inside it’s not just acoustic player but propper electric pickup.
