    How to increase Fox mountain bike fork travel easy and cheap! I have a 2018 Fox Performance 34 fork with 130mm of travel. But this process will work for any Fox fork. All you need to do is buy a new air shaft assembly for your size fork (32, 34, 36 or 38) and swap it in for your current one. I bought mine at Worldwide Cyclery for $35!

    Thanks - been on the fence about buying a Fuel EX. 140 travel is a little bit on the short side for my six feet/190 lbs. Thinking about buying the bike and doing the swap immediately (also hear it’s a good idea to service a new Fox fork before riding). Curious - any downsides to the increase as far as ride? Also, how does before and after travel compare once sag is set?

      You’re welcome 👊🏻 Same here! I’m 195 with gear and 6’1”. If you buy a bike used open up the fork to at least clean it and change the fluid. It makes a HUGE difference even in a fork that seems to be good. Check out the complete video I did on a full lower service for FOX forks. Travel is the same after sag is set (was 130 before and is now a full 150). If the fork doesn’t return to full travel, you have air trapped in the negative air chamber unable to equalize. Probably too much grease used in the lower service blocking the transfer port. The only downside I’ve found is on long, steep trail climbs while standing. The front is noticeably higher and lighter making standing traction less. Seated is fine though...you just gotta shift forward on the saddle to keep that front wheel on the trail😁

      Travel has nothing to do with your height and weight bro, all about the type of tracks you going on. For example you don't buy a trail or all mountain bike or enduro bike for XC. And vice versa

    I just completed this modification for my 2019 Vanquish with 120mm fork. I actually picked up both 130 and 140 parts. Your video was short and sweet and helped me complete this modification. Great job. Oh, I'm running 140mm with 2 spacers and slightly lower air pressure and loving it (was running a single spacer). The additional sag allows for better small bump absorption and ability for the front to maintain traction better over ripply areas. Love this mod. Whatever I may have lost in terms of steering response with slacker HA and higher BB (pretty tiny), I've made up with running more sag and keeping front tire more planted and helping to soak up some of the hits on my HT.

I was getting pedal strike here and there. Now i get none! And the jump of 30mm feels so much better. There is a slight weight penalty, maybe slight angle change but on the trails its not noticed. • @TrailBreaker
      @TrailBreaker  Před 3 lety +2

      Go for it! I LOVE how my fuel feels now. I just moved my saddle forward about 1-2 cm and that puts the effective SA about where it felt before on climbs. I added volume reducers in the shock since it was way too easy to bottom and is now nicely balanced with my longer, plusher fork. Before I ran the shock really firm (20% sag) and the fork maxed out with volume reducers and firm (20% sag too). No bueno. On a typical ride I use 90-95% rear travel and about 85% front. This feels perfect and well balanced. Let me know it you make the change and if you like it👍👊

I wouldn’t worry about the flex on the 34, maybe a 32. The big benefit of the 36 is lateral stiffness for aggressive riding where you’d really notice the deflection during crazy DH runs. I push mine at 195 and can’t feel any flex (but I haven’t tried a factory 36). I would personally go 150 and see how it rides👊👍

    If you are going to over fork 20mm…you are definitely gonna jack up the geometry. Yes the head tube angle slackens but that over forking also slackens the seat tube angle and makes the reach even shorter. It won’t pedal or turn as good with the higher BB.. Sure it will take bigger hits. That’s the only pro. Rest are cons.

I'm thinking of doing the upgrade, but im a bit worried about possibly damaging the frame if I increase the travel. The usual recommendation is 10mm max but I did 20mm and I think it improves the bike in many ways. It raises the BB about a half inch which is great since it's pretty low even with the mino link in the high position. Little slacker HTA (about .5") and the increased travel are obviously good. I offset the slacker seat tube angle by adjusting the saddle forward a little bit. Only downside is the added stress on the frame's HT but I'm willing to risk that since I use it primarily as an aggressive trail bike not enduro. I'd do it! 👊

I'm wondering if those forks are designed that way and that is what the manufacturer would do or if you were to buy a fork from a manufacturer that was 150mm travel and made it a 130mm travel would that newly transformed 130mm fork be different than a 130mm fork bought from the manufacturer....
