  • HH-66 vinyl cement is a high-strength adhesive used to bond and repair vinyl fabrics. Once brushed onto a surface, this product dries quickly. An important factor that allows this product to excel is that HH-66 Vinyl Cement is unaffected by the chemicals found in vinyl products. In fact, it’s resistant to numerous chemicals often encountered in both industrial and manufacturing environments. This means that you won’t have to worry about it potentially failing or losing its strength over time.

    Thank you for the video and info!! Question for you? I have a above ground pool and the liner has a tear right at the spot where the floor meets the wall it a 4inch rip? I understand that it needs to be dry and what not for your product to work but my question is have you or someone you may know tried it on a pool or something similar and does it work? My thoughts are I’m going to buy a piece of a pool liner and cut me a circle patch and hopefully use your product to patch that rip in my pool liner? Please let me know your thoughts or any suggestions you may have? I look forward to your response thank you sir

      Yes, it should work great for a pool liner. It is best to apply it to dry vinyl to vinyl applications for best results. However, I have used HH-66 underwater, but it can be tricky. Here is a video showing how we would do it: czcams.com/video/aFffs0SiAao/video.html

    Hi. I used this last fall to glue on pvc (Scotty mount pads on an inflatable boat) worked great then and for several months. However today, after being in the sun for 30c+ for a few hours it started to peel and fall apart. Did I apply it wrong or does it only work in lower heat conditions? Can I reapply it? Any help is appreciated.

    • @SailriteDIY
      @SailriteDIY  Před 3 lety +1

      If the dingy is made from a PVC and not a Hypalon then it should have worked fine. As long as the surface was cleaned well. Sometimes roughing up the surface with a sand paper can help, just don't take off too much PVC, then clean and apply HH-66. You may want to consider letting it cure and then applying a second coat and allowing it to become tacky and then applying your pads. NOTE: The manufacturer of HH-66 does not recommend using HH-66 for longterm repairs on Hypalon surfaces. However, with proper preparation (including use of a mild abrasive and then cleaning the area thoroughly) HH-66 will work for adhering patches to Hypalon. However, a Hypalon application will not be as strong as a PVC.

      @@SailriteDIY Get a manual sewing tool and fix the missing stiches: Speedy Stitcher Sewing Awl - is awesome, it does lock stitches just like a sewing machine, it is inexpensive, can be used on shoes, canvas, leather, etc. There are many video about using sewing awls to do repairs, the tools have tiny hooks in the pointed part of the needle for pulling thread back thru the hole to make the lock stitch, you use two threads, one act as the bobbin thread and you thread thru the loops created by the needle thread tool. I've tried several different ones, the Speedy Stitcher is by far my favorite. After years of using the manual Speedy stitch I final got a Sailrite LSZ-1 Plus. Great machine and would fix that zipper issue in a flash but it can't sew everything that the speedy stitcher can. Speedy will sew shoe soles, attachments to shoe uppers, thicker leather than will fit thru the LSZ-1 feed dogs plus you can take it to the problem area and do the repair on site, such as a sail still on the boat.

      If the clear vinyl has a protective coating, like Strataglass and O'Sea and it is new it may not work well since the protective coatings prevent the HH-66 from bonding well to the clear vinyl. • @SailriteDIY
      @SailriteDIY  Před 5 lety

      The solvents in the HH66 need to evaporate before the patch or seam is applied, this usually takes a minute or two. I would typically wait no longer than about 5 minutes after applying the HH66 then begin to bond surfaces together. Yes, a small roller to apply the HH66 would work great. I would apply the glue to your 8 foot long patch working a few feet at a time then bonding and then move on to the next few feet and continue bonding until you reach the end.

      This product is a Urethane adhesive. It has UV inhibitors in it to minimize yellowing. But all adhesive used outdoors will yellow in time. We personally have not experienced the yellowing. Most of our customers use the product for patching or bonding multiple layers of vinyl together, so the glue is inside the seam and can't be seen.

    Wouldn’t contact cement work the same?

    • @SailriteDIY
      @SailriteDIY  Před 5 lety +10

      Your typical contact cement, also known as the contact adhesive, is made either with natural rubber or polychloroprene. Both substances are elastomers that can be used to bond a lot of different surfaces including laminates, rubbers, and even fabrics. At a pinch, they can also be used to bond vinyl as well. However, repairing truck tarps with standard contact cement is not recommended. Why? The chemicals in vinyl are known to break down the elastomers in typical contact cement. A trucker may repair his or her tarps using contact cement only to find after just a few months that the repairs don’t hold. This is because the cement has been compromised by the chemicals leaching out of the vinyl. While vinyl cement is a waterproof, solvent-synthetic resin that is unaffected by the chemicals in vinyl. In addition, it is highly resistant to a long list of chemicals found in the manufacturing and industrial environments. When a truck driver repairs his/her tarps with vinyl cement, he/she can be confident that the repairs will likely be permanent.
