Thank you Vanny for this review. I trust your opinion😊 enough that I just placed an order for your frame and the upgrade. I ordered the 03 system through DJI 2 days ago with a ship date of 11/25/22. Even though I have a bunch of frames to choose from that I have not built yet, none of them would fit this camera. Thank you for solving that problem. I appreciate that. Oh, I went back to DJI’s website yesterday to order another 03 setup and saw that the ship date from them at that time was 1/3/23. I didn’t place the order and figured I would just wait. I also assumed that any pre-orders would be at least 2 batches away. Thanks again, great job, and I wish the best for you going forward and a DRL win😊.

That built-in image stabilization with minimal latency feed is quite the tech. Love seeing the DJI FPV’s recording feature being passed on to the air units.

One of the best reviews 👌 I do believe the screws in the 03 unit are removable so you could add longer threaded screws and have 25X25 mm mounting option.
After reading the specs in user manual, make sure it's M1.6 not M2. MurdersFPV managed to do that like what you said.
If frame doesn't have 25x25 mount pattern, just need to cleverly create a 25x25 mount. I'm tempted to create one for VannyStyle and see how it comes out. Still waiting to get one O3 Air Unit. It's sold out still. 😩

Awesome review.i teach a bunch of kids introuble fpv and would love dji so the kids can see the scrubs properly and stop breaking kwads lol.
Finally smaller goggles! I'm ok tho, happy with the snail setup I have. And why spend that much if I am happy where I am at!
Honestly if I was designing a frame for something like this I would do a drl racer 4 thing in the front. Have the camera encased in a clear plastic to protect it.
You can use longer 2mm screws for the 25 x 25 air unit,just simply take out the existing ones and replace

I'd design a gopro style sleeve to fit over the camera, and use a frame that supports mini camera's. Sliding it forward, and still maintaining protection. Apex frame, maybe. Botgrinder frame, definitely.
Pretty much the only thing stopping me from buying this system is the price as I would need the air units and googles. But definitely heads and shoulders above the rest. Plus this is actually the quality level I've been waiting for to move from analogue. I'd love to see some of your signature freestyle flights with the onboard video recorded and edited, would be mint! Keep up the good work and great review by the way 👍

same here, the only way for me to get this is saving at least for 6 months haha! but i'm still in love with my air unit and v1 goggles actually, if you do things right, old tech can still do impressive things.

The session 5 comparison is unreal and I’ll likely sacrifice a few of the “nice to haves” for a lighter weight, better flying and just all around easier management solution from the onboard recording. Though I dont actually have it, the features and all the reviews Ive seen so far just tell me it is indeed the best one available out there.
Well considering all the reviews are from people that were given it early for testing and probably paid, I'll take that with a grain of salt.

I heard of you have 25mm x 25mm mounting holes, you can replace the m2 screws in the bottom of the 03 airunit with longer m2s so you can mount with screws. Of course they are m2 so maybe a couple zip ties also just in case lol. Great video

Please read the manual. They explain how to attach the o3. M1.6 25.5mm appart. Time to call your frame designer again 😅

You can protect with a ND filter, the DJI avata ND filters are compatibil with this camera.

In half the time you covered all the basics and honestly just hearing it come from a pilot as picky as you (in the best way possible) means I can trust you actually had a good experience with the system.

@@adamcfpv5372 no sound...the v1 goggles with the og air unit gives live audio back with wtf root hack. I do not think the O3 has a mic, vista does not for sure
I love it! But my fly skills are crap so latency or white balance problems aren’t an issue for me 😅 The camera size is not ideal but Dji took them of the shelf from the Avata I think. Maybe somebody will come out with a smaller sized camera. I’ve put the system in a Titan DC5 HD frame, had to use 3mm standoffs at the front and stil can see a littlebit of the frame in the left and right top corner. But it’s only a very small edge, easy to remove in post. Thanks for the review 👌🏻
I honestly feel like this was not a big enough of a jump in tech to justify the extra costs involved. Would rather buy up now cheaper vista's and air units and keep on rocking the v2's. I had really hoped that they were going to get this down to a single board in this version 😢 but to each their own.
Good review. Hopefully someone designs some sort of cradle to allow a hard mount onto a baseplate. Maybe something to get it up off the baseplate to allow for more cooling(if needed). I'm sure one of the ancillary manufacturer has plans to release a "naked" version of the air unit, and if not, someone should design a retrofit case. Re the camera protection, probably something like the old LayerLens from FPV Manuals(GetFPV)? Def something to think about. I'm interested in the hard cutoff on range with this unit. Does anyone know if the range is the same as the previous?
I am sure there is a way to design curved standoffs for the front for this camera which would fit every existing frame.
honestly I tried the avata which is basically the same thing and I was not so blown away of the video quality in the goggles and also grading the footage was not the best experience compared to hero 11. The goggles did not fit my face and the whole time I felt so much pressure on my nose I was talking in a higher pitch because of it, I thought my face was just weird but all my friends had the same experience. I will just stay with my caddx vistas and V2 goggles for a long time for sure. Nice and honest review though
It's also a bit expensive. I don't need shitty on-board video recording. Let's make a cheaper lite version without onboard video and I am happy. The transmission quality is far superior, but that's expected when the TX has 2W power output and takes the whole 5.8GHz band 😂

Great info. I think Bardwell said the screws can be removed and replaced then you have a 25 x 25 mounting pattern. If that’s true it’s still a problem for a lot of frames. Another guys said the SD Card and the on board storage can be accessed via USB C without powering up the drone.

The mounting size is not an issue at all.

Might be time to design a mount to put the air unit camera on top of the drone in place of the GoPro 🤷. Could add as much protection as you want then maybe.
How about instead of redesign of button plate and top plate, u make a set of custom front stand offs, that have half moon section milled out on them to allow. The lens to move

I bought one 03 air unit just so I can have 1 quad with maximum penetration. The Vista video quality is plenty good for me.
Just file down the 2 front stand-offs slightly on each side to get camera out there.
Well, gotta say it looks damn good. Im gonna stick with analog cus its just easier for me since im comfortable with it and im not a pro so the only people who see my videos are friends and family anyways. But ill be excited to pick this up in a few years and mess with it when its cheaper i guess.

It would be great If I dont have to buy old frame version + O3 conversion. There is one more thing, since I want to build it myself I can buy "Vannystyle 5" Frame & Motor Bundle" but I will still be missing other parts....Do you have some "ultimate list" or at least "recommended list" of parts for best freestyle build with Vannystyle frame? Question for Alex V (and/or community): Instead of electrical tape holding the camera to the frame, what are the pros/cons of using zip-ties instead of the tape (i.e. heat, mechanical vibration being zip-tied to frame, etc....) ?
Zip ties can cut metal after a while because of the vibration. The standard way to handle that is to put plastic tubing around the zip tie to provide a cushion. You could also put tape around the zip tie, but the vibration will eventually cut through the tape.
Any idea of the o3 unit works with fpv planes with alierons, elevator, rudder?
are the goggles only compatible with the DJI FPV controller 2? I see you are using a different controller, was it hard to setup ?
I'm still in research mode on O3 Air Unit......my concern is latency while doing onboard recording......need some fancy youtubers to do some definitive testing ............currently sticking with Vistas however, i m willing to change to the 03 if latency ends up being not a problem (Flight style for me = fast, low and proxi). Why not make a tpu case on the o3 then zip tied it to the frame ?
How about zip tying the vtx with double sided tape below.?
