      Inertia is hands down the best in the game for me. Anyone that says he just spams the same stuff hasn’t watched enough of his routines. He does use some beats often but he has done many different beats and sounds in battles before.

    Yes! I missed the loop intros so much compared to last GBB!
    Great analysis again, not every beatboxer is a jukebox and Inertia wouldn't do as well as he did if he didnt focus on his style/sounds so much.
    Alem is a fierce competitor and a really good contrast to Inertia.On a different stage on a different day this couldve gone a different way. Alem is a king of basics and Inertia is a king of Bassics

    I think the part that makes Inertia so "repetetive" is his structure. He almost always starts with some vibration bass melody -> a light drop -> inward bass drop -> then he puts in this high inward bass sounds.

    • @frankksong
      @frankksong Před 2 lety +39

      Agree, but his inward bass is just so good the structure doesnt even matter until everybody demanded more from him. Like having a legendary weapon at the start of a game after a while that weapon could only bring you so far until you either have to level up or get a better one.

      Exactly. But his bass is on such a high level that it's a joy to listen to, just not too often so that it doesn't lose its power.

    • @benzenefire
      @benzenefire Před 2 lety

      Calm swag is a kind of battle energy 🤷 the way I see it, if Alem was a machine gun, then Inertia was a blob of gelatin, absorbing all the bullets rather than being destroyed by them

    • @exodaFX
      @exodaFX Před rokem

      Well, when alem got in his face about him spamming inward he changed the beat, and hit the rewind on him during his first routine. And when Battling he stares at Alem during his drops, almost like intimidation

  • @isaiahpetersen
    @isaiahpetersen Před 2 lety +19

    I wonder your thoughts on if inertia faced colaps on this round and used these same routines. The battle between Alem and Inertia felt about the same as Inertia vs Colaps but people were just used to Inertia at that point.

    • @Ocsysrl
      @Ocsysrl Před 2 lety

      You wanna tell me that alem and colaps performed on the same level?

    • @ROFLPirate_x
      @ROFLPirate_x Před 2 lety +9

      Colaps is SO much cleaner than Alem if you compare the 2 rounds. You can make out every sound for Colaps, and it's super intricate. Alem is a little less intricate and he is super breathy in his rounds, it just made it sound very muddy.
      I feel that Inertia wasn't as strong in his rounds with Colaps also.

    • @Heatwave9000
      @Heatwave9000 Před 2 lety +1

      Inertia is so overrated.

    • @ROFLPirate_x
      @ROFLPirate_x Před 2 lety +2

      @@Heatwave9000 I wouldn't say that at all. Just because he isn't percussively complex doesn't mean he hasn't put years of time into perfecting his sound. The level of control he has over his vocal techniques is astounding. He can juggle throat, vibration, inward and tongue bass; making it look easy. Which it really isn't. Many of this critics in the beatbox world cannot match him at his own style. If what he was doing was easy it would be justified criticism but it's not. Colaps is also repetitive if you compare him to himself. He just uses variations of all of the sounds he has mastered.
      I am pushing the boat out a bit with this statement, but I would say that Inertia is one of, if not the, best vocal beatboxers in the pro scene.

    First of all, HUGE Alem fan! So dont think i hate him when i say this... What lost it for me is Alem's battle attitude in the first round and his silly counter in the second. He played up the "King/Servant" theme too much and it took away from round winning potential Tigershot has. In the second round instead of actually trying to copy Inertia with a counter, it felt more of a childish insult like when you stick your tongue out and mumble/mimic something your sibling said. I think if Alem came with the same technical hype/energy as he did in Uniteam vs. Kotcha, and suppressed some of the aggression (let your beatbox do the talking), he would have smashed it.

    Hmm... I thought Alem won it based on what I hear in the videos. Live, I'm sure Inertia was incredible through a who-knows-how-many-kilowatt sound system you can feel vibrating your eyeballs... I haven't heard Inertia live, but I have heard Tim Foust, and oh my god when he goes low on a good sound system it's like your brain melts and your hair lights on fire.
    I think the only complaint I have about Alem's set was the 7/8 section. He made a really big deal, calling it out (which was the right call), but I think he needed to then execute a _stunningly_ clean 7/8 groove, taking advantage of what 7/8 can do that other time signatures can't. Instead he performed a fairly messy, busy groove that mostly sounded just like his usual 4 or 8 patterns... and if you _really_ count it out, his second bar of 7/8 was a mess and closer to 8.
    I think that was the moment that decided it more than anything. If he'd come out and sounded like Mike Portnoy laying down an iconic 7/8 groove right then, while counting on his hand to Inertia, I think that would've clinched it for sure. Instead, that was kind of a little bit disappointing to me, and opened the door for Inertia's sheer power to win it for him. Also, he did sound a bit less clean than usual to me. Maybe Alem's energy was _too_ high on this one?
