      I have a large family myself. They are grown now, but I always made sure everyone had their own bag. Now I didn't know as much back then that I know now, so the bags weren't what they should have been. Corporal has taught me a lot. But if everyone has their own bag then you can't go wrong. Kids are grown, but they have bags, and have bags for their families.

    These are the types of shelters and fires more likely to save lives in a crisis, than all those complex, large- tools -required types often touted for "survival". If someone in the group is injured or getting hypothermic, this would be an ideal way to maximize resources (including limited firewood) and have group members close enough to keep an eye on each other for safety, provide medical care etc. THANKS for showing this! 👍

    9 minutes in. Great idea. I ussually carry 2 ponchos and a tarp. This would work great. And, truth be told, I never thought about putting this over like this. I used the tarp for "standing out of the rain room". This technique would work. I would still have the out of the rain room (though shorter) but I could safely put a small fire in there.

    If you hang the tarps so the ridgelines are on the opposite sides of the tree, one above the other, it will create a ridge vent of sorts to act as a rain resistant chimney.

    • @kentmulter
      @kentmulter Před 7 měsíci

      I was going to suggest this too. I think William meant to write "ridgelines are on the same side of the tree" -- one directly above the other, so you have a smoke exit, but with more protection against rain.

    • @williamdroom5789
      @williamdroom5789 Před 7 měsíci

      No, I meant if you put the ridgeline for the right hand tarp on the left side of the trees, then go 6" above and put the ridgeline for the left hand tarp on the right hand side of the trees you will have created an overlap to keep rain out but let smoke escape.

    Thanks for another great video. I like the new way you're using of setting a ridge line but must admit I'm still a fan of your older style and made a bunch of them several years ago after buying a roll of paracord and a roll of bankline. Gave them out to family and friends and traded a couple at a post apocalyptic festival I went too. I find it funny and sad how people try to put you down with remarks like 'you'll get attacked by wild animals', I once had to camp out next to an abandoned graveyard, I was more worried about zombies than any bears or other predators. If a person can't deal with the real and imagined threats of the outdoors, then they just need to shut up and stay away from those of us who can. I'm high in fat and cholesterol and my brains are old and rotten, no self respecting bear or zombie would want to eat me.

      Right, put the higher one with its back to the prevailing wind so it has a chance to draw the smoke. I think if you had 6 inches of distance between that would work fine. Like anything else, test it in the field and confirm whether it works.

    Simple and effective. Back to basics. Good stuff as usual. He shows how it's done and gets it done. Outstanding!

    Excellent idea to show a configuration for a small group. Such ideas are welcomed since a lot of us have a family & it's useful to know how to protect & make such shelters in case of emergency. Thank you again Shawn. Wish the best in your endeavours!!!

    Good video. I should say, ANOTHER good video. Neat idea with 2 tarps for a few people. And it's nice to see you back to Ribeyes. 😊

    I've seen you use that weed Wacker several times... it reminds me of one of the first times as a kid in the 70's that I experienced hard work. My Dad had one of those and had me work on parts of the back yard.
