    Take a look at selling old typewriter or fountain pen ads. I believe collectors would be interested in those.
    Along the lines of arty ideas, people I’ve seen take 40’s and 50’s ads of family travel in Americas parks and collage the pics on journals.

      I will! I did list a couple of fountain pen ones, and did sell a smith and corona type writer one. I'd like to find some Rolex ads! Those will go well. Thanks for watching!!

    Great idea. I sell postcards, and this would be another ephemera item to go along with them.

      Very easy to list, if I'm a bit slow on new material coming in I'm going to keep putting up 100 at a time and see how sales are for the year on them. Probably would be very complimentary to the ephemera you sell, might be worth a shot.
      I got most of these out of early Life magazine, Ladies Journals and Boys Life publications

    older national geographic mags have lots of ads

    • @thebookpeddler
      @thebookpeddler  Před rokem

      I should have said that the majority of these ads came from Life Magazine, Boys Life, Ladies Journals and Popular Mechanics. Haven't gotten to National Geographic yet but I will check them out! Thanks for watching

    Let me know if you are interested in 50 life magazines from the 1930s. No time to parse out the ads.

    I had a collection of Winchester related ads that did real well in selling. Seemed like the best and largest ads were the 20s and 30s. I was getting $10 to $15 for pre 1920 ads from magazines like Saturday Evening Post.

    • @thebookpeddler
      @thebookpeddler  Před rokem

      I did put up a handful of them, no sales yet but I expect them to! Thanks for the info! Saturday Evening Post I've definitely pulled some from too.

      I've definitely been in a number that do, I just don't have much interest in that market as of now but that could change. I have more space now so I'm open to it all!

    Still buying? 8/9/23. Loads of stuff from when my dad closed 1977. Store junk went, hate books! Most from storage in back room or barn (tight). 1000 pear boxes full (12 bks each average) & loads of ephemera & pb's. NE Pa.

      I'm still buying, working through 5 picks currently. Send an email, any pictures/details send them my way and we could go from there. pmontelione@yahoo.com

    I wanna try selling these on WhatNot. I don’t know the logistics of boarding them what size do you use that would be “standard size”

    • @thebookpeddler
      @thebookpeddler  Před rokem +1

      The boards I bought were "Life" Magazine Backing Boards" 10 7/8" x 14" inches" - The hard stock mailers are "12 3/4" x 15" Photo Mailer Envelopes PAC Worldwide" - The clear bags are "11 1/4 X 14 1/8" Clear Bag Acid Free Clear Sleeves for Mat Art" - Hopefully that helps you, it should work for the majority of the ads. Of course if they are smaller you can get comic book backing boards and ads. Good luck Katey! I'll follow up with a video in a couple months! Thanks for watching!

    An interesting statistic may be what percentage of B&W ads sell vs the Color ads.

    • @thebookpeddler
      @thebookpeddler  Před rokem

      Yeah, I'll take note of that and see if there's a big difference or not. I really think my sample size may be to small, should probably put up 1k for this but unfortunately I don't think I have the time to do that. Thanks for the comment!

    If you cut out the advertisements from the magazines will that not damage the print material

    • @thebookpeddler
      @thebookpeddler  Před rokem +1

      It does but most magazines are very difficult to sell and the ads are usually more profitable. The magazines I cut up had been sitting in my shop for 8 years. Most all I used were damaged in one way or another so I salvaged the ads from them.

    I just dived into vintage print ads . One thing is ; MAKE SURE nobody else is selling the SAME AD !! I also sell match books . I MAKE SURE nobody has the same one on eBay. THAT IS THE KEY TO EBAY SUCCESS !!!!!!!!!!

  • @haust9112

    There is a policy on eBay regarding "offensive materials" that was introduced in 2019. It's a stupid policy, I know, but I thought I'd let you know so your account doesn't get suspended. A lot of people get away with selling this stuff, but it's best not to risk it most of the time. I have toed and crossed the line before, but only with very rare items I know will sell immediately (eBay doesn't have time to catch it). Most commerce sites have a similar policy now unfortunately.
    Cannot list:
    •Slurs or epithets of any kind
    •Slavery items, including reproductions, such as tags, shackles, documents, bills of sale, etc.
    •Items with racist, anti-Semitic, or otherwise demeaning portrayals, for example through caricatures or other exaggerated features, including figurines, cartoons, housewares, **historical advertisements**, and golliwogs
    •Black Americana items that are discriminatory
    •Confederate battle flag and related items with its image
    •Historical Holocaust-related and Nazi-related items, including reproductions
    •Any item that is anti-Semitic or any item from after 1933 that bears a swastika
    •Media identified as Nazi propaganda
    •Listings that imply or promote support of, membership in, or funding of a terrorist organization
    Can list:
    •Media such as historical photos, magazines, books and art, provided that such material doesn't perpetuate or glorify violence, intolerance or racial stereotyping
    •Items related to the Civil Rights Movement
    •Stamps, letters, and envelopes displaying Nazi postmarks
    •Currency issued by the Nazi Germany government, including military scripts
    •Historically accurate WWII military model kits that have Nazi symbols
    •Historical and religious items that bear a swastika if they are made before 1933 and are not related to Nazism

      Oh I know... it's selective enforcement, everything is offensive today, I had a piece of sheet music that had the word "Mammy" on it with a picture of a river and trees and they removed it.
      Whenever I get my own site I'll have a specific category for this kind of stuff so people can still purchase it if they'd like.
      Thanks for sending the info, appreciate it and appreciate you watching!
