    Treated wood also rots. Wood should never be in contact in concrete that will be wet. Wood absorbs water.... Gotta get the wood elevated so water can drain and dry out.

    Great video. I have a rather basic question... What kind of saw would you use to cut the rotted bottom of the stringer off to get a nice, flat surface? Circular saw? Sawzall? Or, would a handsaw be needed?

      I would use all three if i needed to. If I could, the circular saw seems like it would create a nice cut and my first choice.

      Just adding to this question, because I am pretty new to this type of fix. Would it be a bad idea to start the cut with a circular saw, but not go far enough down as to make contact with the cement, then finish it with a hand saw?

    What if the damage runs higher up the stairs? For example, repairing one or two of the steps.
