  • Traditional Norwegian log cabin / log home building technique shot with a cinematic perspective. In this video we will get a close look at one of the log cabin building technique often used in Norway.
    This video is set on a farm in Sigdal and this farm belongs to traditional craftsman Anders Fragått. He has many years of experience with both preserving old buildings as well as building new - in a traditional manner.
    We will take you through the basic process on how the logs are fitted together by notches. The power tools used in this video are from Makita and the hand tools are forged by different blacksmiths around the country. The chainsaws that were used are Husqvarna 550 XP.

    Hi, everyone! I just published a step-by-step book on building with logs. I have done my best making it as ''hands-on'' as possible, with detailed explanations and point-of-view images. I think it might be helpful for those who would like to do their own log cabin, log shelter, or log home project. For those interested, you can find it on Amazon:

    is it ok that the logs have those splits running down the middle?

    • @aafjeld
      @aafjeld  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Yes, that is totally normal as this is wood and will always stay «alive» and change over time 😊

    if you drive in the pins that hold the logs together in while it is still in your shop, is it hard to take apart when it comes time to package it up for delivery?

    • @aafjeld
      @aafjeld  Před 5 měsíci

      No, that is quite an ok process, when we take it apart we pry them out an cut them, put in isolation and transport it to site. When we are on site we pry them back in with a driver and it is in the exact same place as when we built it 😊

    Beautiful work. Do you plan on disassembling it in part and moving to the site to re-assemble? If not, what then?

    • @aafjeld
      @aafjeld  Před 3 lety +1

      Thank you! Yes, when the cabin is completed we mark it and disassemble it log by log and transport it to site. It is very convenient to have access to a crane during the build. This particular cabin is going to be re-assembled on Haglebu, Norway.

    why doesn't he build himself a jig box and save weeks of work

    • @aafjeld
      @aafjeld  Před 2 lety +4

      That is an option, but since every log is different in shape - a jig box would not create the same result as the notches would not become tight enough :-) But a jig could work, if every log was the same shape, or if tight notches were not a concern.
