    Just bought my 2nd full alocasia "frydek". Absolute favorite plant! I killed my first one back when I was a newbie, it didn't even last 1 week 😅 Hoping I've grown enough as a plant parent since then to be able to care for this new one and be able to make it thrive! Thank you for all the tips and care guide!

    Hey there! We got one of these a couple of months ago. You're right, what a beauty! Your advice is brilliant. Many thanks. Unlike most of our other house plants, I consider it as a pet. The other plant I'd consider a pet is my brugmasia (Angel's trumpet)...not technically a house plant, but I bring it in for winter and spring. It loves it inside during this time, and those beautiful fragrant flowers [at night] are a delight and super impressive.

    hi! oh my god this is crazy, I was going through my youtube comment history and found out I commented about a year or 2 on one of your videos about the mosaic virus because my mom's garden caught it. Back then I would help my mom here and there with plants but around half a year ago I bought myself a succulent pack and genuinely got addicted. I now own around 40 houseplants in my room and it's crazy because I just saw you from 2 different perspectives (one of me genuinely not caring about plants and 2 understanding all the terms). Anyways hope you have a great day, just wanted to share that with you!

    I want to try alocasia, I don't know if I have reached intermediate skill level yet. Can't find my xp bar, lol I love the way they look but I am still to scared to get a $$$ plant if I don't know have the correct conditions and might kill it before I figure it out.

      Hahah if only we actually had planty xp bars that told us where we were at 😂 you could always give it a go with a less expensive one like a Polly. The care is pretty similar and the price tag is much much lower

    What if I have bought a frydeck and put it in too big of a pot for months but it’s still alive, should i downsize, it has three leaves it had 2 when I first got it but seems to be doing fine, the pot it’s in is about the size of the one in the video she has but the plants totally ain’t the same size

I'm concerned though because my leaves seem droopy in a way, not like they are gonna die but like they are sad and im worried they won't perk up.

    I can't find anywhere in Bulgaria this type of Alocasia and I want it so bad. "Polly" is the only kind you are able to find in most of our plant stores, which is a bit disappointing. I have grown Alocasia "Polly" from bulbs as I shared in a previous video of yours about Alocasias, tried one of the methods which you shared in that video and it turned out to be very successful. Since that happend and I kind of got it's game, I really want to try other kinds of Alocasias to grow, but as I shared, it's nearly impossible to find other types, besides "Polly". But hey, Emma, if you ship, please, do share! LOL About this video, thanks, very informative. Beautiful plants do require more care and probably patience with this one expecially.
    I wonder if you are a fan of tradescantia? If you own one, could you do a video about it? It may be interesting.

    Ok huge question that I know many of us deal with when it comes to Alocasia, especially the ones we grow inside, but do you have the same issue of only having 3 leaves on each bulb at a time? It seems with with both my Polly and Frydek I can never get them to put out more than the 3 leaves. However I have some Sumo, Giganteum and another yet to be identified that I'm growing outside and they all have 5-6 leaves per bulb. This is something I've heard so many people talk about and wondered if you have the same with yours, it was hard to tell with multiple plants in your pot, which let me just say, that Frydek is absolutely gorgeous 🤩!

      I have a frydek. Mother brand and 3 pups.
      Mother plant has 5 and 1 pup had 4, the other 2 pups still only have 3!
      Apparently when an Alocasia is “thriving” your get more than 3, when it’s just “surviving” it’ll never hold more than 3 as it’s too much energy.
      I tweaked temp, humidity and switched to a seaweed fertiliser and the difference is awesome ☺️
      And I’m in Scotland lol so nothing like an Alocasia could survive outside here.

    • @GoodGrowing
      @GoodGrowing Před 3 lety +1

      Yes I've found that super common with most of my alocasias... the good ole one in one out policy... this frydek is the same, no more than 3 leaves per bulb, but there's 4-5 bulbs in the pot. I think it's a matter of nutrition and conditions. Thing's have to be PERFECT for them to put out more. Best of luck!

    I absolutely LOATH the term, "plant parent". I've NEVER understood why so many people try to make other organisms human. It's moronic at best, and a mental deficiency at worst. And for the record, plants don't get pregnant, animals do. Other than that, nice vid and I enjoyed the information. Lol.

      @@GoodGrowing Definitely not meant to be offensive, so thanks for taking it lightly. I'm a biologist, and I hate the trend of people trying to make other organisms human. By the way, your Frydek looks EXCELLENT! I'm getting a little yellowing on a lower edge and the tip of the oldest leaf. I think I keep mine too wet. Just learning this plant.
