  • Maryam tells a personal story about how showing kindness lead to an
    understanding of what Diversity and
Inclusion really means. She states, "The way I dress shouldn't matter how people view me in the world. Instead, we should be judged by our actions and character."
Maryam Elassar is a third grader at Amana
Aacademy. She likes to play outside,
make crafts, and would love to see a world
where kids can overcome their differences.
She will connect her talk to the EL Design
Principle of Empathy and Caring by sharing
a story of how showing kindness lead to an
    understanding of what Diversity and
    Inclusion really means.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

What a wonderful story by this impressive young girl. Her soothing, confident voice and the way she gestured with her hands makes it look like she has been giving speeches like this for years. She clearly has a good heart. Anyone would do well to listen to this short talk from her.

A long time ago and lead a team of men doing a windows upgrade. We were all contractors at a massively huge company. I did NOT care that one was blue, one was orange, or one was handi capped. I did care the man gave me their best which was a new attitude for them. How we bonded was by talking about our grandmothers and how kind these women were to us and the shared experience. Also, sports, namely American football. I am fortunately that was raised by beatnicks so I was taught give people a chance to reveal themselves and they will.
I enjoyed her attitude. I am blessed to work in a hospital where everyone is the color of the rainbow.

Friendship is a nice thing. No governments should force friendships or anything else upon its nation.
However, Herbert Spencer, a political theorist and philosopher, was opposed to intermarriage between Westerners and people from other cultures, notably the Japanese. He argued that mixing "DIVERGENT VARIETIES" of people from "divergent modes of life" would produce people who were "ADAPTED TO NEITHER". He said that immigration in general, and immigration in America in particular, would eventually give rise to "IMMENSE SOCIAL MISCHIEF and SOCIAL DISORGANIZATION". And haven't we all seen this in America.

You're assuming kids are fully in control of their choices and can make fully-informed decisions, which is false. Their brains have not developed yet. It's for this same reason that we have an age of consent in the West.

    • @mehrtanvir
      @mehrtanvir Před 7 lety +2

Which is assuming that adults are somehow magically bias-neutral beings who have grown out of the prejudices they grew up with / developed through limited social experience / limited knowledge / limited exposure to diversity of opinion, and also assuming that her message has no intrinsic value, regardless, and also assuming that some adults think they are smarter than kids which is anybody's guess. The age of consent in "the West"...? (correction: "we have" in the West) - O that place that "we" also know and have lived in somehow, as amazingly we are from the same planet and species... Sometimes this age falls to an incredible and dangerous low of 12 to 13 years, which research points out is also linked to commercialized children's media that has no qualms in sexualizing such young children to their detriment. Glass houses, throwing stones.
