The Genius Mathematician Who Had Access To A Higher Dimension: Srinivasa Ramanujan

  • Srinivasa Ramanujan was a self taught mathematical genius who relied on intuition to achieve his success, believing that an equation “has no meaning unless it expresses a thought of God.”
While his colleagues meticulously reached their results via proofs, Ramanujan made significant contributions to the theory of numbers, infinite series, continued fractions, elliptic functions and many more based on inspiration from dreams and visions.

"Self-taught, no proofs, guided by intuition.. sounds like 100% wackjob nonsense."
      1) Why does being self-taught sound like 100% wackjob nonsense?
      2) He left proofs out of his own loose-leaf notebooks because paper was expensive and he knew his own work; he had the proofs in mind so there was no need to include them when he could use that space for other/more equations & theorems and quick maffs.
      3) Intuition is 100% wackjob nonsense, too? Lol how? His intuition led him to solve problems deemed unsolvable, to significant breakthroughs in various fields of mathematics.
"..But the guy was celebrated at home and abroad, all during a period not exactly known for acceptance."
What about him would people have found unacceptable? You're surprised that he wasn't treated poorly by people?

Lol that's rude of you first of all secondly this story is 100% true and instead your comment is utterly wackjob nonsense and it's not we Indians who are claiming it to be true Ramanujan was celebrated as a mathematician even in Britain and Sir GH Hardy is the one who have actually told about Ramanujan to everyone
Thirdly, have you read his proofs? any statements? His work of discriminant function is still kept in the library of the Trinity college and has all the proofs in the book he had his works were important in us understanding about blackholes so yeah I'll highly suggest you to read about his work.
Lastly your claim of guided by intuition being weird is kinda understandable but that's true for today's world, earlier as in even in times of Socrates and Aristotle they use to have thought experiments all the time even Einstein got his theories by thought experiments then he made the proofs for those theories ( Ramanujan did made proofs for his works after that) so ya it's not that uncommon its just that today's education system focuses on mass education and how to create workers which is actually good for economy but it lacks highly when we talk about creating leaders and masters of a particular field.

This guy created the backbone equation of blackhole before the concept of black holes which is mental. It's something illogical and yet his works are scientifically advanced.

This story bursts the nationalist mentality. Everyone from all corners of the universe today contributes to everything in the modern world. Most importantly, as Joe Rogan said, "Most of us are dumb, we just use stuff smart people figured out." Ironically, some people have too much ego and they co-opt advances they personally had nothing to do with. They become mean about having custody of technologies they didn't invent or can reproduce. Basically, their meanness stems from sheer accident of birth.
