If I was the principal at the school where the kid brought that typewriter, I'd override that teacher's rule that the students couldn't use the school issued iPads. I'd tell her "Either allow the students in your class to use them, or you're gone......"

I worked in a kids shoe department in a major department store. That meant that my vacation time had to come at very limited windows. Not during winter boot season, not during back to school season, not during summer sneaker season. I went along with that. I also had to work every Saturday. I willingly switched days off with other staff, as I was full time and knew the part timers had projects to finish or exams to prep for. I kept myself flexible. I willingly went up and covered breaks in the men's shoe section, and NO ONE wanted to go up there.

This is something I've never understood about bosses. What part of "I won't be here, period." do they not understand?

Having been diagnosed with dysgraphia, I've had to use a typewriter at a point in my life, to be able to decipher my own school notes and, y'know, actually be able to learn from them. I'm cracking up at the thought of someone bringing one of those hefty monstrosities into a school and starting clack-clacking away mid-lesson. I bet the students had quite a good time the first time around, but I suspect plenty headaches by the end of the day.

Charity tale: I get it. It's great when a company donates to charity...but when they hit up their customers for money it isn't their donation, it is their customer's donation that they are taking credit for. I am perfectly capable of choosing my own causes and resent being hit up for cash every effing time I walk into a store. The woman didn't care about the one cent, she was making a statement. She wanted them to create and mail a gift card for one cent because that requires the most trouble and expense. Touche! Customer wins.

The typewriter story reminds me of an action the pirate party did here in a regional parliament.

Intelligent design is different in different religions. For example, the Hindi design is very different from the judeo/christian design.

True, intelligent design is the same pattern everywhere. People just like to cheer for their favourite sky wizard.

I've had people demand refunds for the UK government mandated 5p bag charge because they no longer needed said bag.

Auto mechanic here, and I am good at my job. I have quit several jobs because of conflicts with store/ shop/ service managers. The last shop I walked out of was a open 7 days shop. All mechanics get 2 days off per week, I asked for every tuesday off plus whatever other day. Having every tuesday off makes scheduling things like lawyer, doctor, dentist, etc. easier. My store manager told me on hiring that this was okay, I even offered Wednesdays as an alternative steady scheduled day off.I was volunteering to work every weekend!!! All was good until the SERVICE manager came back from disability leave... He had no say in hiring me, and was pissed off about that. He couldn't fire me. Couldn't transfer me. But he could set my scheduled days off... Saturday and Sunday every week. I tried to get on his good side, NOPE. I would have to schedule vacation days to do my legal/ medical stuff, and he would still try to deny those days off. So I would just call out sick, no pay. After 2 years of that crap, I quit. He got fired a month later because I was one of their top 2 mechanics. FUCK YOU BILLY!!!

It's not the 1 cent, it's the principle of the thing. Or put another way, at what amount of money does the principle of not having money or property stolen kick in?! How long a scratch on one's car is below the principle of not having ones property damaged?! The store should have given her the 1 cent back, profusely apologized, and given her a gift card of a few dollars to make amends.

barring the rest of the course around inteligent design (ID) (I believe) the core is different in terms of when, how and - most of all - Why things are the way they are.

The last story reminded me of my old manager. I gave them 5 months notice for a holiday, had it approved, planned things, then found in August (the beginning the month I was due to a week off in) that they'd messed up my holiday. So I asked for a day off instead, which she granted not before making me work 9 days in a row (The UK is supposedly to only be 6 in 7). Then she proceeded to leave the shop before helping me fix the missing holiday or giving me the 16 hour contract she'd offered me the same month she messed up, all whilst working 3 times my original contract. Took me til December and a caretaker manager to fix everything.

It's not petty to want money back money that was stolen from you!!!! Whether it's one cent or $1000 I agree with the lady, if they had taken my money without asking I would want a refund even if it was a penny, it's the principle of the matter. I personally hate those automated charities they put on debit card machines, if you don't know the charity you're more than likely just paying for somebody's BMW.
