  • A journey of about 1,700 kilometers. In Vietnam, the "Reunification Express" train travels from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City. After the end of the Vietnam War, the destroyed line was quickly repaired, to help support the reconciliation of the people of North and South Vietnam.
The 32-hour journey through the Southeast Asian country is an opportunity to experience unique culture and take in breathtaking landscapes. The first stop is the Trang An Landscape Complex, a nature reserve that is home to Delacour's Langurs -- a very rare, endangered primate species.
From here, the journey continues south. The train crosses the Ben Hai River at the 17th parallel. This was the border between North and South Vietnam. During the Vietnam War, the bloodiest battles raged here. It is not far to Hue, which was the capital of Vietnam in imperial times. Here, the filmmakers disembark to attend a performance of the Royal Ballet.
Now, the train approaches the scenic highlight of the trip: the ride along the South China Sea takes viewers through the Ocean Cloud Pass, a climatic border between North and South Vietnam. In Da Lat, a motorcycle tour makes a short detour into the mountains before the trip ends the next morning in Ho Chi Minh City, formerly Saigon. The "Reunification Express" -- a symbol of reconciliation between Vietnam‘s North and South.

As a Vietnamese citizen, I think the only problem with this train trip from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh city is the painfully slow speed (1.5 days compared to 2 hours by airplane). But if you guys come from another country and are willing to spend so much time exploring Vietnam, this turns out to be one of the quickest ways. 😅

      Lol! nice try, Wumao.
You may wish to invest more than 4-5 seconds on your horrible gaslight sales pitch. It’s sad.
Only one of those countries INCREASED their official strategic partnership status with the US this past year.
Hint: it is not the Philippines.
The arc and velocity of Vietnam’s partnerships w/the US is currently at an all time high . Who knows how high it will go ? …it’s just evolving & changing by the week. eg VinFast cars are now starting to stream into the US market. Forging this bond is the fact that that the Vietnamese people in general have MUCH more distrust with the PRC , than they do with Americans ; which says a LOT, considering they were once at war with both. The fact that there is a massive Vietnamese-American community in the US who are now very successful, and even now increasingly politically ambitious /voter base at the regional level…. Is swiftly aiding this new era of collaborative relations, built on goodwill.

We have defeated Mongolia, France, fascist Japan, America, England, and China during the 4,000 years of building our country.
The Americans dropped 14.3 million tons of bombs on us, killing about 4 million people.
After that, they also supported the Khmer genocide in Cambodia and embargoed Vietnam for 25 years. We in 1990s were completely poor, backward, illiterate, the consequences after the war no one in the world could understand.
But with only 30 years of development to date, we are proud to have surpassed 2/3 countries in the world.

We as an Australian couple, discovered Vietnam in 2000 and we've been back every year minus the COVID years. Can't say all the development has always been an improvement but what has always remained the same has been the friendliness and good nature of the Vietnamese people many of whom still lead hard working lives. Our railway journey was a short one from Hue to DaNang but it was spectacular. Going back to DaNang in May for a resort holiday. First time we went to DaNang there was no coast road to Hoi An which meant of course no massive hotels on the coast.

However, the restroom on the train would certainly benefit from being cleaned more often. I have also heard and read some comments from foreign tourists about the toilets on the train. To tell you the truth, I am very sad and embarrassed. But 2-3 months ago, I read a Vietnamese article saying that Vietnam's railway service has changed a lot to attract customers due to a recent decline in sales. They have changed the toilet room design with more modern equipment. They have also renovated some of the train's rooms, even converting the train's rooms into rooms like 4-5 star high-end hotels or bars to attract high-end customers.

I read through many comments and unexpectedly there were many people who loved and understood Vietnam very much. Vietnam is a narrow and long country. Vietnamese people are very open and friendly. Vietnamese people love peace and put aside the painful past. great altruism. Remember that day. My grandfather came back alive after terrible battles with America. Cambodia and China. He lost his memory because of that horror. There were nights when he suddenly woke up and screamed, recalling the names of his fallen comrades with unfamiliar names. "There were days when he ran into the street and screamed, "Forward!" Stand up, comrades. Stand up to defend your country! Viva Vietnam ! Long live Ho Chi Minh! I can't imagine what he went through. My tears fell a lot. Thank ! The people who laid down their lives forever for their homeland, for the beautiful country of Vietnam today. So that we can live perfectly in Peace .

The French interim government consisted pretty much entirely of socialists and communists , funnily enough , French communist voted to invade colonize and enslave Vietnam. It is not a surprise the Americans recently just got kicked out of French colonies in Africa right after the French.... France were racist Vichy government , they invited Imperial Japan over , and used pretty much entirely German ww2 soldiers , French and European Vichy soldiers in their French Foreign Legions , and these guys were bad , very bad , ironically financial military fully supported by the USA , so Vietnamese were not very keen to have Americans coming over neither.
