- What lay here before was without doubt one of the most dangerous and terrifying walks anywhere in the world. That path still exists and you'll be walking right over the top of it, but does the new, secure path wash away all the fear from the original? Or does it still have some heart-stopping moments up its sleeve? Join us on our first visit to el Caminito del Rey for a look at a very famous 7km walk...
Hi, I’m Steve, a travel reviewer from Scotland. Join me on my adventures as I discover my own country, often visiting places for the first time, so hopefully it's as much of an eye-opener for you as it is for me! Don't expect expert opinion, just a very honest journey of discovery. Sometimes featuring my intrepid sidekick Alicja, sometimes featuring adventures beyond the borders of Scotland. Enjoy!

I've always been awed by the sheer magnitude of the engineering that went into the original construction of that entire complex. Just the idea that someone would envision a sidewalk along the sides of a gorge hundreds of feet up the sides...
And to think of the men who built those pathways and stairs gives me butterflies in my stomach.
Even the vicarious visit was terrifying! I had to cover my eyes with my sweaty palms at times, but thanks for filming it. The scenery is amazing!
bien cierto ¡¡
Absolutely terrifying!!
You lived a charmed life, Mister!
About 30 years ago, my late wife and I walked part way along the old Camino almost to the bridge. It was full of holes through the concrete path but it did have a steel wire attached to the rock face, although no barriers to stop you falling off.
We decided it wasn't safe and came back down.
We always visited the ruined village of Bobastro at the top of the hill opposite and the embalse which we walked around.
Happy days.
Super brave! But also glad you knew when to exit :)
well done !! It was fun then !!!!
Way too scary!! How brave you guys were!!
I found this after watching a video of a young girl hiking on the original Camino del Rey and I thought Huan She was terrifying. This is a hike I could take. What a beautiful town and gorgeous views.
Steve you wouldn't go up in an elevator to a secure platform up on the bridge but you did this! Your quest for great content has no fear!
Haha aye, I don't know what got into me on this day. Maybe too much sangria
Agree! The bridge felt much more secure and safer than this trail!
@@alicja4139- They really worked on the safety of this path. I saw much earlier recordings of the path [below] and it had major gaps in the path and areas where you really had to hold onto chains and old structure to get through. It was more of an urban exploration path with few on it with no trespassing signs discouraging access and only thrill seekers on hiking attempts.
Steve - In this condition, accidents were just waiting to happen -- Long version from 10 years ago - czcams.com/video/kJjelhDdwVM/video.html
Ditto.
I came here to ask the same thing!!! What gives, Steve? 😆😉
Awesome guys, thanks ❤
Fabulous.... we were 2 Australians who did part of the old path in 1979 at age 25...
Wonderful you can now have to whole experience with safety.
Thanks for the great coverage of the experience.
Two brave people you are 😮
astonishing engineering work, both the road and the railroad layout, imposing ¡¡
Holy guacamole to me you two are super heroes!!!
Absolutely stunning and scary at rhe same time
Those barriers didn't look save to me at all 😮
Dear heavens, I feel like I walked every step with you on that!!....thank you for bringing the world into my living room.... you are both brilliant company.... I'm so fortunate to have found your channel....thank you, thank you, thank you....
Hi Steve. Wow. You brought back so many memories of a visit my wife and I made to El Chorru in 2000 and our failed attempt to walk the El Caminito Del Rey. We followed other along a trail from El Churro which took us ALONG the railway track featured at the end of your video. We popped out of the tunnel and walked over the railway bridge. The Camanito was on our left. Our hearts sank 😮 My wife said NO BLOODY CHANCE. It looked a death trap as we watched others begin the tortured walk. That year 3 people died. As you said, No chance.
Your video showed me what we had gladly missed. Thank you.
Now I need to get into my loft for my holiday pictures.👍😎
Well done both of you. Scared of heights so absolutely no way I could have done that😢
The upgrade looks great: it’s gone from a survival trail to a scenic route. Great commentary from both.
You should watch the old path being walked, if you haven’t. Old vids still exist on here including the kings bridge.
Absolutely beautiful. It was interesting seeing the old trail in relation to the new one and I poured myself a cup of nope for that old one lol.
Amazing congratulations 🥳 to you both. 🏆🍺🍺🇬🇧
It is delightful traveling with you. Thanks for taking me along.
Awesome ! never knew it existed , Bravo...
Unless you are afraid of heights it was a very simple and easy hike, a far cry from the challenge before they built the new pathway. It was still an interesting walk though with nice scenery. I saw a CZcams video of the challenge before and it was truly one of the most dangerous hikes in the world. You would got fined heavily if you got cough doing it. Several people died attempting it before.
Nice to see you both walking in Nice weather
Dude - I'm working today so will watch this one this evening. However, just noticed you have clattered through the 40k subscribers mark. What a superb achievement. Well done to you and your good lady 👍
Thanks man! Hope your day at work was okay!
@@steve-marsh aye, so so. Missed our home game against Burnley but that maybe wasn't a bad thing looking at the result. 2-0 up at half time but got beat 4-2. Jeez!
That is one spectacular walk with incredible scenery.
I can’t imagine building that path! Crazy.
I know right!? That's true bravery!
Wow that’s on my list now thanks Steve
You did an extraordinary job filming El Caminito. For many years I was wondering if could do it and now I know for sure that definitely I can’t!😅
Well done 👏 both 👏 👍
Looks amazing! Thanks both
Absolutely amazing, well done you two, thankyou for taking us on your journey
A sunny Steve Marsh video to watch on a
dreich day in Fife, perfect 👍👍
Cheers Richard! Got a similar day out the window here in Montrose!
@@steve-marsh , Steve I have a huge favour to ask, my Dad is huge fan of your travels and it's becoming a Sunday tradition for the 2 of us to catch up with some of your travels. He is turning 80 in the next few weeks and it would be absolutely tremendous if you could give him a wee shout out in your next video if possible, his name is Charles Flockhart,if it's not possible then no problems and keep up the fantastic content 👍👍.
@@inmyhoose don’t know how much you pay, Richard, but pay on patron and your dads name will be on the end credits. Every time
@@johnallan4826 will do 👍
Very informative video! I think you've convinced me to try it!
Omg! I'm shaking like a leaf just watching!
I know that feeling :)
Just watching you both recording this videoing can be frightening 🫣
Wow! We are going there in September. Looks amazing! Great video as well 👍
You guys are fantastic guides! I feel like I'm there hiking with you! Thank you for posting!
Wow that was amazing, thank you so much for sharing. No way would I ever be able to do that walk, well done the both of you… very brave xx
I did it with friends and a spanish guide about forty years ago.. There were gaps in the path we had to jump over but we had had some wine first..some of the girls went back but our guide had all the ingredients for a paella so we carried on.. Was a bit nerve wracking but we didnt lose anyone.. After the paella we returned by a road over the top.. I know it was closed later as it was dangerous so I'm glad we did it then..... Happy memories !!!
Wow! Braver than me!
I would've loved to have done it before they modernized it. Still would like to do it.
We were hiking to the CONDE to swim. A group of 7, 8. The historic CAMINO, featured by Daniel Ahnen, who fell into a giant crevasse in the Himalayas, some time later, and only to be found dead.
Did it yesterday, 20th Feb. Very tame compared to the old path underneath. Spotted lots of old rusty climbing bolts.
That last section crossing the footbridge made my heart rate go up. Well done to you both. 👍👍👍👍👍
What a marvellous video. I would’ve loved to have done this walk, but at 93 I won’t make it now! Thanks so much for taking me along. Sure beats weather in B.C.
You both deserve a medal for doing that
Cheers Adrian :)
Looks amazing think I will pass on this thanks for letting us know
Looks a good day out I'm heading to malaga in June good idea thanks Steve 😊
What a fantastic place to visit & fair play to you both for being Bravehearts 🏴 have to admit I thought I wasn't scared of heights but I might have to have a rethink after watching your amazing video!!
So glad I've gotten caught up on your videos finally. Three weeks of chaos , hurricane, clean up, two weddings, one in Winnipeg , Manitoba and now we're in New Brunswick looking after our son's cats for a week. Your videos always bring sanity back to us. That was quite the walk. Can't imagine how scary that was in person and then having to video it. Bravo! Thanks for taking us on these adventures to places we'll probably never make it to.
Wow what a month! I hope the cat is a calming influence for you now, you deserve a rest! :)
Well done to both of you! This is definitely on my bucket list now . Fantastic editing of the video.
Thanks so much Ian! Highly recommended wee excursion
Hi Steve. Thankyou both for showing us this canyon.
Personally I commend you both on being brave enough to tackle this. I was in awe of it's beauty.
I cannot imagine the engineering to build the infrastructure, let alone the skill of the workers, not only building the original path, but the new, safer one.
I think the wind was caused by the turbulence of the water falling so fast.
I mentioned this video to my husband, it turns out in 1972, as a teenager, he did the walk with his parents and brothers !
So he is now gonna watch it too, as I doubt either of us will ever get there to do it in person !😂
Thanks Heather! Wow thanks for sharing that :) yeah, I can only imagine the guys who actually BUILT the thing!
My 80 year old mom, and 4 kids, including the 7 year old did it. You can too. 😊
@@AriannaAyers ....except that I live in Australia, and cannot see myself travelling to that part of the world. That's one reason why I enjoy Steve's videos
Excellent video, this magical place is now on my bucket list
I remember watching YT vids around 12 years ago of people taking the "old" path - terrifying - got to be honest, even with this new path, I'd think twice! An amazing location though. Thanks for doing this so I don't have to! :)
Aye if it wasn't for the new path this is one place we'd never see :D
What a great and beautiful adventure.
Looks awesome
……. Don’t look down 😱……. You are both brave doing that walk oh my god !!!!
Cheers Michael!
That was breathtaking Steve. A mesmerising place to walk and well done the pair of you for conquering your fears. Loved it!
Ah thanks so much Davey! Really glad I plucked up the courage, I wasn't sure about this beforehand!
We really enjoyed that! Thanks to both of you for giving us so many great CZcams vids to watch. Keep 'em coming!
Thanks so much Don!
One of your best videos! Loved it! And now I want to go to Malaga.....
Loved this one but I couldn't have done that walk..Thanks for doing it very brave .....!
Stunning stuff - great doc. Every time you took out your cell phone while on that path my legs felt funny
Steve and Alicja, excellent video. We'll be walking this in September. Your video really showed the trail better than other videos. Cheers from Canada.
Fantastic video thanks so much, I was captivated. I have a fear of heights but really want to do this! It was so good to see what it’s like
Good morning Steve and Alijca 😱I don’t know how you two walked along that trail I can’t blame Alicja hugging the wall I just think about falling or fainting that little fence to hold you up ! Ugh😧So glad you ended up with coffee and churros take care guys see you soon 😘
Cheers Linda! I don't know where I found my head for heights that day :D
Well done guys what a brilliant walk. Thanks for taking us with you.
Cheers Daz! :)
Fantastic video guys what an amazing walk thanks for sharing.

I could never physically do that walk. Thanks for taking me along.
My stomach was turning just watching you guys. Well done and thanks for showing us.
Cheers for coming along Del!
Wow, incredible! Thanks so much for sharing this epic walk! Not sure if I could do it, so I’m happy to live vicariously through both of you intrepid explorers. 😊
I think having the filming to worry about took my mind off the more terrifying stuff :)
WOW !! Steve & Alicja absolutely out of this world, fantastic. Well done to you both, that's what you call a holiday with a huge difference. Thankyou to you both.😀
Just love it over there, stunning part of the world, thanks for coming along :)

John thanks so much!
Brilliant, well done both of you. That's one walk that I would put on my bucket list. Cheers and stay safe.
Cheers Peter! Highly recommended if you are in the area
Your video brought back memories - my late wife and I used to visit here every year on our holidays in Andalucia some 20 years ago. We used to watch (from the safety of the roadway on the opposite side of the gorge!) walkers on the old path. No handrails in those days! Thanks very much for showing how it is nowadays. Great video, beautiful sharp photography, and nice presentation by you two. Keep up the good work!
You folks have entertained us with some great videos, but this is one of our favourites. Thank you.
Thanks so much John! :)
Nice video. Would love to walk the path someday.
What brave people you are! Great scenery - thanks for being so courageous🎉
So true, the scenery was stunning! Cheers!

Great video Steve, looks spectacular!. Thanks for breaking into your holiday to do this. Hope Alicja got to do some shopping.
Pat, the shopping trip was scarier than the Caminito
That was a heck of an adventure. Never heard of that place. Thanks for taking us along!
And thanks to you for coming! :)
In all my travels I am happy I missed this tour!!!!
I will and have taken on many adventures but heights don't do it for me. Watching this video gave me the screaming ab dabs and I was in an armchair at sea level. I would never have seen this if it wasn't for you two. Thanks for taking one for the team.
I can say it was almost an absolute pleasure :D
What a fantastic scenery with stunning views. Thanks to the both of you to 'sacrifice' yourselves to do this tour. 😀
Cheers Henk! :)
Many thanks for this stunningly beautiful video.
Thanks so much Mary!
Fantastic video couldnt do the walk myself but great to see it xx loved the breakfast look forward to your next trip to Malaga
Thanks Jeanette! Breakfast in Spain has me bouncing out of bed in the mornings :)
Omg I've wanted to do this for a long while! Looks amazing, especially the part with the glass platform!
Oh it's so worth it! I admit I was sceptical, but it was SO worthwhile
