I'm 75 and I never want to grow-up if it means not loving Christmas-time... I love all it stands for, Christ's birth, giving to other's, getting together with family and friends and making Christmas cookies, sharing and caring and everything that goes with Christmas. Thank God for Him giving His only Son that we might be with Him someday!
Hello Joanne, how are you doing?
I am a couple weeks shy of 61. For most of my life I couldn't understand why people gave up on Christmas. I spent my years from about 10 to 24 working on a Christmas tree farm and selling trees on a lot in Detroit. I first hurt my back in that job when I was in my late teens. I later worked other physical jobs that hurt my knees and back. At this point I can't get down on the floor to secure a tree in a stand. I have done it for the past few years but not sure I can do it this year.
The religious part is a whole different story. I was there until a couple priests tried to get too "friendly" when I was in high school.
That is so sweet you're 75 I hope I live that long and longer and I hope you have a blessed long life as well and to the 4% that will read this may you be well stay strong keep Christmas in your heart everyday even though the world is ugly this is how we spread cheer and joy of God's good word to help others it's not about being perfect it's not about being righteous it's just about spreading God's good word and keeping joy in your heart for this world surely needs that. 🙏🌷💗

Becoming "nonreligious" because of a "few priests being too friendly" ( if you're even being truthful about that, since so many "me tooers" love to try to destroy the lives of ministers and priests, in order to do the devil's work) is a cop out!
You don't turn against God because of other human beings, or what they do to you. God didn't do that to you, and he hates evil, even more than you, and that's why he sent his only son Jesus, to take on flesh, to be falsely accused of witchcraft, etc, to be made fun of, to be homeless, THEN to suffer horribly as a criminal and taking on our sins, and suffering OUR terrible punishment, FOR US, including going to hell for us for a short time in order to experience it for himself, THEN to be raised up again, and return to heaven and be our intercessor and high priest on a daily basis.
And being "religious" is completely different than having a relationship with God, which obviously you didn't to begin with, or you would have stood strong in your faith, no matter what.
So sick of whiny, weak people using what other people have supposedly done to them, to feign disbelief, just so they can choose to live a bad life without faith.
And just so you know....
I've also seen abuse and been abused in every way, all my life, and instead of turning away from God, I learned evil ( along with good) truly exists in this world, so it made my faith even stronger, because of that understanding, and the Bible explains that so clearly to us all.
So, you're actually letting evil and satan win against you, and destroy your soul for eternity, because of others.... and right now, satan and his demons are literally laughing at you, because you're so weak, and you're damning your own soul, instead of your faith becoming stronger.
Other people don't determine our response to God, OR our situation, no matter what they do to us.
WE determine our response, and it should be with the knowledge that evil exists in the world, but so does God, and whatever hell happens to us in this world, will some day be completely forgotten, once we see heaven, and the face of God.
And we will understand WHY these things happened to us in this world.... which isn't hard to figure out, if we look at it from a Biblical perspective.
It's because evil exists, but we were also given the tools and strength to overcome it, IF we cling to the one who loves us more than anyone else ever could, and if we keep the faith.
You would do well to remember that there is a time of birth and death for us all, and it could come to us suddenly, and when we're unprepared... and I for one, don't want to be taken in the middle of sin or unbelief.

I love these old Christmas music. Parents and son now in heaven so there’s always tears dropping as I listen to these beautiful older songs sung so wonderful. I thank God for his son and for the time I had with those gone. I truely thank him for the Xmas I have now with daughter and her husband & 2 little boys. Even though there are tears God is good. Ahh, back when the department stores downtown sparkled and made magic at the holidays. Santa’s workshop, making snowmen, the thrill of toboggan rides, wrapping your feet in thick socks and old plastic bread bags inside winter boots, skating, hot cocoa. All gone now.
It makes me sad. I'm remembering good times with my family all around us. Everyone in good health and we didn't have global warming like today. I'm hoping we get snow this year. Last year no luck. My dad passed away few years ago. Some songs remind me of him.

These Christmas classics remind me of a more innocent period of Americana, by this I mean growing up in the 60's when everybody put their differences aside and truly enjoyed the Christmas spirit. They said "Merry Christmas" to each other, even to people that we meet on the street. We were a family of 10 and we were not very wealthy by no means. But we were rich in love and togetherness. I am 79 and starting chemo for cancer this week. I haven't felt very much like Christmas, but this takes me back to my childhood. Funny what cheer a little music can bring.

I now live in New Zealand, Christmas isn't the same so I make my own Christmas by listening to music like this and decorating my home like I did back home. Merry Christmas everyone. A good singer gets inside the melody; has respect for it. That's what Ms. Simmons is referring to. Oh, and the singers in this collection didn't require auto tune pitch correction either.

Don't recall ever fighting with my brother at Christmas... or hating my stupid sisters. Glad to know we weren't the only kids who grew up with Ferrante and Teicher.Christmas was telling Santa what I wanted and knowing that presents over $8 weren't going to make it under the tree. Knowing that Santa actually brought me gifts I never knew I wanted and loving them all because I trusted him. Hopes he makes it down the chimney again this year!

Many of these songs take me back to the late 1950's and our big excitement was to shop in Kresge's and Woolworth's for presents we could afford for our parents and siblings. I loved hearing these songs over the P.A. system. Really put us in the Christmas spirit. They still do.

My grandparents introduced me to the music from the 30s and 40s (*back in the 80s) when I used to spend a month with them in the summer in Brooklyn NY - thank you grandma and grandpa - RIP - you were the best damn loving couple and I'm so glad I have the same relationship with my husband that you two had! love you!

Some people like All I want For Christmas Is You, others like Fairytale of New York, but we can all agree that this era of Christmas music was the best.
The Christmas classics of the 1940s were composed during and shortly after World War II. The sincerity and deeply felt sentimentality is essentially unreplicable by today's music standards.

What I love about these classic versions is: You can SING ALONG! Too many modern artists feel compelled to put their unique "spin" on these songs, with weird phrasing, additional notes/glissandos, pregnant pauses, inhumanely-extended long notes, etc. Makes it impossible to follow along. I've enjoyed the past hour or so reading other webpages whilst merrily singing away! 🎼🎶 Happy holidays to all! ⛄🎄🎁

This is Christmas ! Always and forever!
I grew up in the 1950's and my parents played these songs on our record player. I loved hearing Spike Jones' s song "All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth". We used to listen to his records and watch his tv show. It was wonderful watching the Perry Como show, the Dean Martin show, the Andy Williams show, the Nat King Cole show and the Bing Crosby show. It would be so nice if any of current popular singers that can sing as sweetly and clearly as the older singers could their own tv shows. Merry Christmas to everyone and may 2020 bring peace to our world.
These songs give me a contentment that is hard to match any other time of the year.
