  • See 90027, 030, 033 and 038 stored awaiting their fate after removal from the DB depot at Crewe. These 4 locos are no positioned in a large compound which will ultimately be their final resting position as it's likely they will be cut-up onsite where they now reside.
At Crewe TMD (E) - See 90023 which is the next loco to be removed week commencing 29th April once Reid Haulage have delivered 37108 to Ruddington.
All footage was captured in full compliance to the CAA drone/UAS rules using a compliant sized drone as of Apr-24.
In case anyone asks - The is no public access or viewable location for where these locos are now stored.
Hope you enjoy the video! Thanks for watching.

    We all want them back
The class 90s are my favourite electric locos
And the fact that four are now very close to the torch is actually making me cry
If I had infinite cash the first thing I’d do is buy up those four class 90s and restore them to operational condition

You know I remember standing on a footbridge being scared stiff and yet excited as a class 37 thundered underneath, making the bridge shudder. I remember going from Bishop’s Stortford to Liverpool Street in a 305. I remember class 86/87’s being the pride of British Rail and I remember the bone shaker 507/508’s replacing the luxurious 502/503’s on Merseyrail.
I remember the launch of the class 90’s and now they’re coming to an end. Within my 51 years there have been a lot of changes, not necessarily advances. Loco hauled prestigious expresses replaced by soulless metal and plastic tubes on wheels. I am 51 and in a lot of ways I’m obsolete but I’m still of use in some ways. This vid appears like a ‘gods waiting room” for locomotives which are not ready to die.

Great catch of sad scene, most of the 90s up the side of the depot are operational. It would be nice to see Freightliner take a few more of the better ones. This seems to be a common scene at DB depots wonder when they'll start a scrapl8ne for 66 or if they'll just send them to europe

There is a surplus of electric locos currently, and not enough diesels, when Greater Anglia replaced their fleet with the 745/55, that added to the pool of redundant 90s, and they only have a use going up and down the west coast. The main ports are not on the knitting, and quite frankly never will be, and the main container terminals are not electrified either, and never will be, due to how they use RTG cranes, and manual loaders, the ohle would be in the way. The 92s and brand new 93s are about as much use as a chocolate teapot. It is hollarious seeing back to back 43s doing freight, and ‘heritage’ locos in their 6th decade out on the main line. The remaining 91s haven’t long left either before the trip to Sim’s.

EWS started the rot, DB Cargo buying a fleet whereby many would never run again. the 21 class 90's built for the ECML electrification seeing all the work for them go, the the 14 for freight / parcels as part the of the initial batch of 29, to many for not enough work, same with the 92's, BR's over optimistic freight forecasts , privatisation & the drive to cut costs to compete have all conspired against electric traction for freight.

It's absolutely criminal of EWS/DB to waste class 60's and 90's over the past 15-20 years by placing them in storage to rot, which as a result has seen them spend more years in storage than working. Thankfully, at least other freight operators like Freightliner and GBRF are taking operations for these locos that are in reasonable condition. Similar applies to the class 56's and the more unluckier class 58's (although a handful are UKRL compared to others), honestly it really upsets me that this is a common scene of EWS/DB's depots, but at least it's great to see their unwanted to return to action.

These are well beyond a good servicing, they have been robbed blind - a total rebuild well beyond any financial viability.
