  • The Frittenden & District MCC finish off their 2023 season with some absolutely terrific racing at the Frittenden Flyer which incorporated the 2023 South Eastern Centre Championships.
The 250cc Solo's have put on some of the closest racing all season, and this was the case here. 15 year old future star, Charlie Wood was absolutely flying, but he had plenty of stiff competition though, so it would not be an easy ride for him. The fast starting Tim Greig and Russell Little would give him plenty to think about. Luke Clifton, Dave Mears, Gareth Hickmott, and Steve Garside would be the main contenders in the 350cc class, but in the 500cc Solo's would anyone be able to get near Chad Wirtzfeld with his flat out leg trailing style. Looking so spectacular during practice, it was hard to look past him for anyone else to take the 500cc class. Though with Cameron Taylor and local favourite Martyn Sturgeon in the field, Wirtzfeld could not afford any mistakes.
The usual suspects compete for the Upright Solo Championship, and with 8 times European Veteran's Champion Bob Dolman in attendance, the like of Tim Curnock, Jason Prynne, Dave Mears, Nigel Coates, and Tim Mount were going to have their work cut out to stop Dolman from taking another title.
The LH Sidecars put on some of the most spectacular races of the day, with no 1 crew standing above the others, this was always going to be a very competitive class. Any one of 7 crews could take the win, so just making the final was the first thing to do. Former British Champions Rob Heath/Kyle Fish are always the crew to beat around the Frittenden track, as are the 2023 British Champions Martin Cuff/Colin Clark. 2022 British Champions Michael & Tim Phillips would be looking to prove a point, and with the spectacular Tommy Penfold/William Naden also chasing the title this was going to be worth watching, and the final did not disappoint.
In the 1000cc RH Sidecar class, both Mark and Tom Cossar were in the entry, along with local favourite Terry Saunters, and Saunters with passenger Liam Brown have already taken the scalp of multi Masters Champions Mark Cossar/Carl Blyth. Could they do it again, or would it be Tom Cossar/Wayne Rickards who would take the victory? With some scintillating racing through the heats, as we went into the final, the result still couldn't be called. With Dale & Jordan Fish and Michael Austin/Vinny Branch both displaying super quick form through the heats, along with Will Offen, no crew could be dismissed for the win. A superb way for the Frittenden & District MCC to finish off their year in spectacular style.
