My biggest stack is junk silver. I have a growing stack of collecter type old US coins that are premium pieces. I have some generic and 1 Oz silver pieces, as well as some fractional pieces, and bars. I prefer random junk silver because I can get some of it under melt.

Interesting. In my mind, I have always separated my stacks into weight, numismatic collections, and gold stacks. At this point I think I "should" focus more on weight. Great video, Kidd!

Your knack for commentary is rite on point...Good job. I seem to be leaning more to jus the collectable vintage side as time goes on myself. Maybee not a great move actually however its hard spending $330 on a generic bar knowing all the wile for another $50 or $100 i can get what i really want... I'm torn right down the middle. i DO have some generic pieces but their getting fewer and fewer the more time goes by... Will probably regret it one day but what's a vintage purest to do LOL..Wishing i could wiggle my nose and sprinkle some fairy dust to find out where the Vintage market will end-up but don't we all !!

I dig the thought process and style. Nowadays, i have it all simplified into Ammo cans of 500oz +/-. They got a handle, eaay to store. And weigh approx. 35lbs. So for me, it is a matter of how many 500oz boxes I have and just trying to accumulate more 35lbs cans. The cans are a mix of whatever. I do have numismatic that is separate, but also, I dont consider it part of my stack at all.

    • @TheKANSASKIDD

Well said, good sir. Nice selection. Good advice. I like to collect my silver and trading up to gold when I'm over 500oz. Most ppl say don't play the average, but you have to consolidate your stack. Having over 500oz, it just gets too heavy. Thank you for the video.

Whether a person considers his collection ‘one stack’ or ‘multiple stacks’ it a good idea to know how much of each type you own.

  • @chrisinvirginia

I never thought of myself having more then one stack. I would have to say I have two stacks. Gold and silver with each having different goals. Gold is long term and is never touched. For me, I use silver as a temporary tool. Having said this I have found my stack of cheap weight to be decreasing as the (slightly higher premium stuff) has increased. An example would be in spring of 2021 I sold off a chunk of 30.00 retail silver for 1850 gold. When ASE's were selling for 45.00 I sold almost every one I had and again turned it yellow. Yes, my ASE's were considered cheap as I to started stacking about the same time as you KK/1776. Eagles were 16.00 each. In selling to individuals I have found the slightly higher premium stuff a much easier and quicker sell. When I purchase, I will normally go for sovereign coins (and bars) as long as the premiums are reasonable.Today I look at it this way. A dollar extra is nothing if the price goes to 40, 50 or 60 bucks. Speed of selling and the buyers comfort level has been the difference in my selling experience. The additional premium between a 10oz generic prospector bar and a 10oz Britannia is near nothing in your average pawn shop.I just dont sell to pawn shops!

I have 5 Silver stacks and 3 Gold stacks.
(Oops...thats 5 too. I forgot about the natural Gold and 24k shot)
All with their own cost averages.
I stack my Silver in 100 oz stacks. That way I'm not adding silver with higher and higher prices driving the cost averages up. This way I'm only screwing up the cost average of the stack I'm currently working on. If it gets out of hand, I stop buying. 90% of the time I only buy if the price is lower than my average or if I can flip something to make up the difference.
The ratio leads me in the direction of what metal I'm buying.
    Typically Gold.
Everyone thinks Gold is to expensive, but when fractional Gold has half the premiums of Silver, its a no brainer.
I'm also in on ratio swaps. Everytime I have done a ratio swap I have lowered the cost average of both metals doing it. How can I say no to that?
A few years ago when the ratio dropped, I traded off enough Silver that it dropped my cost average to sub zero.
Starting a new stack from below zero is something I hope to repeat soon.
Just waiting for that $33 spot. 🤓👍
