Its the implication. Pay-to-skip opens up several issues: 1) the everlooming temptation for it to become p2w by making purchaseable items better, 2) the stigma ingame of 'oh you dont have crafted gear right away because you didnt pay for it' so you cant get into groups, and 3) complacency of the player base, the slow boiling frog analogy. Its already a subscription game with a battle pass and purchaseable cosmetics, the addition of the gem-conversion feature is not only unnecessary but also scummy.
"you can buy gems and convert it to trading post gold and buy items from the trading post, I don't really see that as being a problem" tldr: another p2w MMO looking to squeeze their playerbase for as much money as they can while trying to walk a line of how much can they squeeze without upsetting a large portion of the players. Save your money and quit any mmorpg with ANY p2w features, all of them suffer from ceos of video game corporations greeding for multi-million dollar salaries.
