    Good stuff brother !!! I have made a few PVC flutes for some youngsters I know. It's still amazing how a crazy curtain climber is given a flute turns into a complete angle filled with music and wonder. Keep spreading the faith and the joy.

    I am currently reflecting on what we have lost, hoping to add more meaning to what it is that we have. Acting as if we are none, but knowing we are all. We can't help who our mothers and fathers are, and what their circumstances were.

    I never knew the "Natives never wasted a single piece of buffalo" was a stereotype! I actually have heard that all my life "The native americans never wasted a single piece of the animal" But never realized it was a stereotype.
    Gonna try my hand at making one of these flutes. I think the hard part is going to be routing the wood and getting the holes where they should be... Will have to look for some templates. Ty for the valuable info

    • @BlueBearFlutes
      @BlueBearFlutes  Před 3 lety +1

      There are so many of those stereotypes that most people don't realize. Such as all natives had long hair, no facial hair and all natives use beads and feathers!.
      On a side note, if this is your first visit to our Channel, I have hundreds of videos on making native american flutes! Some of them include some pretty nifty schematics! That aside, I also have a book for sale on my website with plenty of schematics inside!
      Thanks for watching!

      @@BlueBearFlutes props to you for keeping this tradition alive. I'm really into hand crafted works of art. even though these are actual musical instruments, i still see them as works of art as well. Becuse every single piece is going to be different, and such subtle variations such as wood type, weight, diameter of the holes. All these subtle variations make each flute a unique hand crafted piece. Not enough people are working with their hands these days. I think it is what we were meant to do as human beings. Thanks to craftsman like you, this tradition can carry on into the next generation. I also have a really big appreciation for the sound of these native flutes. Some of the most calming music i've listened to. I definitely will check out your website, and more of your videos.

    Thanks for your reply Charlie,
    My question is ..... After you have selected a block of wood, Do you bore the block with a drill press and then turn it on a lathe?
    I’m wondering how you shape the block into a dowell. . I haven’t found any videos on this nor on how to hollow out the dowell. I’m a woodworker ..... I’m presuming you cut the block .... bore the tube .... drill the holes .... finish off the final shape on a lathe ... and then much sanding😬
    It seems the better quality flutes are made from solid stock rather than by splitting. (?)
    Thanks for your vids

    • @BlueBearFlutes
      @BlueBearFlutes  Před 5 lety

      Some of these videos should help. Some might be a little fun. Although modern ideas make it easy to believe that using a tube which is bored out is better, I find it following traditional patterns sometimes yields better results. In the case of something that has been done the same way for thousands of years, chances are there may be a good reason to do it that way. In the case of the debate between splitting a flute and hollowing it out or boring the middle out of a solid block of wood, there are reasons different people believe it should be good one way or the other.

    • @BlueBearFlutes
      @BlueBearFlutes  Před 5 lety
