    This is a light recon vehicle, not an MBT. It's built for mobility and speed over the varied and rough terrain it will encounter. Placing heavy armour on it defeats its purpose (Recon role). Anyone who has served in the Armed Forces understands this.

    I get the reconnaissance / quick assault / convoy protection roles need light fast and agile vehicles which have good lookout ability and IED protection (the latter being enhanced without a roof as the crew can't be blasted against it). But I do wonder if Coyote and Jackal have been designed with only one theatre of operations in mind - ie hot and dry conditions. I worry that these totally open vehicles might be less than ideal in damp / wet and cold conditions, especially if deployed on recon far ahead of a main force for days or weeks at a time. Crew comfort is an acknowledged factor relating to fighting vehicle efficiency. I'm no expert - would welcome people's thoughts. As a final cynical thought I read yesterday that the whole Challenger and Warrior fleets may be mothballed despite major upgrades for both being planned. In which case who would those brave soldiers in Jackal and Coyote be doing recon for!!!

    The comments on here are beyond inane. Yes, it has no top, yes, it's lightly armoured. That's because IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE. It's a recon vehicle, light and fast is what it's designed to be. What, you think that jeep with a roof is going to somehow give you better protection that this thing? Most modern bullets rip through stuff like that with ease, hence why it's been removed here. Any armour you slap on that could stand up to small calibre bullets would half the speed the vehicle could go at.

    • @hobmoor2042
      @hobmoor2042 Před 5 lety +4

      The open cab was something the troops asked for based on their experience in Afghanistan. They wanted to be able to have better 360 degree vision, better arcs of fire and the ability to mount, and use, up to three MGs at the same time. A roof turret was insufficient and a cabin roof and sides got in the way and made it harder to spot ambushes.
