Why 85% of GOLFERS are INCONSISTENT!!

  • In today’s lesson I talk about what I believe 85% of golfers struggle with! Even elite golfers and tour players work hard on avoiding this “Death Move!” ☠️
    It’s called the BLOCKING PATTERN and the crazy thing is that golfers are falling into this trap with the best intention!!! We’ve all been told to use our BODY more in the golf swing!! You’re using your ARMS too much!! You have to use your body more!! We’ve all heard it!
    Heck, I know a lot of you have probably been told to get more open, or to use your hips more in golf lessons too. If you’re anything like me, the more I try to use my body the worse I hit it and the more inconsistently I play!
    Its not that the body doesn’t play a VITAL ROLE. It does, but as a transporter and SUPPORTER of the ARMS! If you’re DRIVING woth the BODY, like most golfers, you’re BLOCKING with the body too!! This video dispels the myth that golfers swing with their arms too much!!
    You SIMPLY swing the golf club freely with the ARMS with the SUPPORT of a DYNAMIC body motion. You do that and you’re going to hit the ball further, and with less effort than you ever have before!
    I hope you enjoy the video!
    Get after it!

    Andrew - I've watched a lot of your videos, and for me, this one is NUMERO UNO! Explains a lot about my swing flaw, e.g. early extension, toe hits, duck hooks, etc. This one is the best!

      Fantastic Phil! It’s not as complicated as everyone ‘wants’ to make it!! We all have a better version within us as golfers. It’s usually a change in ‘concept’ that makes the biggest difference NOT filling your head with multiple swing thoughts.

    FOLLOW-UP:
    Hello Coach A,
    We played a round of golf on a rather tough course this morning. It was my first opportunity to apply your instructional techniques to my swing on a course. I narrowed my stance by one shoe width on all shots. It made a big difference to free up my hip movement. I tried to get a good shoulder and torso turn, while loading my wrists to 90* at the top of my natural backswing. Then I let my arms drop while letting my wrists and body unwind naturally through the ball to the top of my swing. You could hear the great ball strike contact. I have never struck and driven the ball this consistently. Almost every shot had a dead-on straight ball flight. I am very happy to report that I did not Block a single shot! I literally only had three bad contact swings all day. After each, I immediately knew what I did wrong.
    It was the best that I have struck the ball in a long, long time.
    Thank you, Thank YOU, THANK YOU!

    Hello Coach A,
    I literally just stumbled upon your videos and channel. Yes, I unfortunately Block a driver or two a round; mostly on the back 9 when I begin to become physically and mostly mentally tired. Your explanation is extremely helpful to me. Thank You!
    I've given your videos a big thumbs up and I just subscribed to your channel.

    Excellent video . Exactly what I was doing wrong.Spinning out was absolutely killing my distance. You had mentioned some of these things in earlier videos. Been practicing arms moving faster without spinning out . Light bulb went off for me and also not tensing up. Thanks for the help. Have gone from weak 200 yard drives to 230 245 range

    When I take a practice swing while using my body it feels good, I brush the grass and the feel I get is that I hit the ball square, but the actual swing a lot of shots are are hooks, fats, thins, slices, I shoot in the high 80's ... I'm going to give this a try. Thanks for the tips!

    • @AndrewEmeryGolf
      @AndrewEmeryGolf  Před dnem

      Try your best to put that great practice swing ‘on the ball!’ For most, the golf ball changes things - More tension, more concern for the outcome, a hit reflex and a lack of follow through altogether ensue!!
      Thanks for watching! Best, A. ⛳️🏌️‍♂️

    At 59 years old and after 25 years of playing I have been a single figure golfer for about the last 20 years, but inconsistent as I definitely “stood up” at impact trying to open my hips.
    Your “swing the arms vertically and keep the body back” move has made my game not only more consistent but much simpler and easier on my aging back. Thanks so much from Sydney Australia 👍👍👍

    Great video! The two "feels" that work for me is 1) aiming at the right/inside quadrant of the golf ball during the downswing (keeps me from spinning) and 2) a tension free swing that releases the club. Maybe this will help some of your viewers.

    Thanks. Got an online lesson somewhere else recently where opening up the hips earlier was a thing for me. The mechanics make sense (I tend to loose my wrist flexion in the downswing and open up the clubface a bit too much, so it would arguably help me to square up the clubface) I know I can separate my hips from my torso, but I cannot time it correctly for the love of god. The feel tip I got "let your hands exit to the left" just make me turn my shoulders too much. If I concentrate on the feel of keeping my wrists 'dead' in the downswing the results are usually better (I know wrists need to be active, but mine were OVERactive for 20 years)

    • @AndrewEmeryGolf
      @AndrewEmeryGolf  Před měsícem

      You have to find what works best for you!! Best advice is to keep things simple. Remember the ball flight is the greatest instructor in the world. If what you’re working on isn’t effecting positive change with regard to contact, accuracy and/or distance then it’s window dressing!
      Thanks for the comment.

    took a lil while but I finally managed to freeze frame the downswing at parallel(1:07). The position is what you need: shaft perfect on the target line with right elbow lower than the left elbow. He practices what he preaches !.

    Tension is a killer. I discovered I tighten muscles in arms and shoulders hitting pitches, chips and even putts. Takes a lot of focus to keep muscles soft and don't anticipate a "hit".

    Great video, I used to hit the ball much longer in my 30's and 40's 280 to 300 at sea level with my driver and I have lost about 30 yards and I am now 56 yrs old. I video taped my swing and this is what has happened to me. Some of the problem was I lost some flexibility and can't hit the same positions I used to. Appreciate the info.

    hey Andrew, quick question. I understand the majority-arms and hands philosophy, and keeping body closed to target for as long as possible. how does this marry with ball then turf contact, do you just preset weight on lead side or advocate a weight shift - any video on that?
