- Emmy Glick, a high school sophomore, discusses how to cope in the face of unbearable tragedy. The daughter of American hero Jeremy Glick, Emmy tells us how to lead our lives in the wake of loss.
Emmy Glick is a fifteen year old sophomore who loves singing, acting, and dancing. She has performed at Carnegie Hall, the opening of the One World Trade Center, and Yankee Stadium. This is her second TEDx Talk. When she grows up she wants be a casting director and give child actors the same experience she had. Today she will speak to you about recovering from tragedy.

What a delightful young lady! I wish i could have known her father, he was a true patriot and hero in his last minutes. Being a father myself I can state with 100% confidence that she is doing exactly what he would want, for her to have her own life and find acceptance and peace with tragedy. No father wants their child to experience any pain, and certainly not because of them. I expect we will hear great things about her in the coming years. She is clearly very intelligent and capable. Not surprising considering who her father was.

I share the story with my Civics classes every year, and we watch a documentary. His heroics and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
We remember Jeremy for what he did in the last six minutes of life, but like his daughter said, there was so much more to him than that. We mourn people like Jeremy who make tremendous sacrifices but are also reminded they did that to prevent further tradjedy that day and we need to be grateful for what we gave and not take one single day for granted.
