I'm slamming Emrakul 3.0 into the commander cube lets go
Get it done before it's banned again
@@Exile559 Its a cube, there is no banlist :D
Protection from budgets under $50
💀
? Dont you just have mass amounts of cards that you've opened through the years and build from those? When i build a deck thats how it goes. I may need to pick up a piece or two later if i decide i love the deck. Mostly being playful yet facetious here as my brain has never let me understand this budget scenario.
@@Nex41354 at some point you dont care you just either buy singles or have binders with playable cards and thats basically all you use ... trash rares and uncommons commons turn into bulk that you go through once ina while when sorting stuff or when you bored and build sone janky budget deck that you play once and then you go back to cedh and normal edh decks... all of this dosent mattes since my friends do it totally different from me and im just killing time by writing this
@@Nex41354 newer players don't have an extensive collection to build from yet
@@Nex41354 not everybody buys two or three booster boxes from every set not everybody cares about the collection aspect and not everybody has been collecting for decades
I will not be targeting Emrakul with my shopping cart unless it's actually affordable
Hah.... Hah....
You're joking right?
It will come in the new precon for sure
@@creativescreenname2750no tf it won’t 🤣
@@creativescreenname2750 lol no
Crazy thing is the cast trigger honestly. When cast you gain control of all creatures, counter your emrakul you just cast, keep everyone’s creatures forever. It’s when it’s leaves the battlefield that you sacrifice all your creatures. So if it never hits the battlefield, you just get the cast trigger.
Wouldnt its own ability protect itself from your own counter tho? I love your idea but it flat out says protections from spells so wouldn't that include all of YOUR spells
@papasmurf9201 Static abilities like that do not apply on the stack. So unless it says cannot be countered you can just counter it and keep everyone's stuff.
@@The_Shenaniganizer my play group loves to argue about stuff like this. Somebody would probably flip the table over that ruling lol. Hence why I havnt played in a year ish.
Your comment just doubled Reprieve cost
@@SxTheBo mana drain would be dope too.
It also gives you protection from friendships, lol
W comment.
It’s funny because it has basically hexproof, so in order to kill it you need a wrath, yet once it dies you sac all of your creatures. Creatures which are already dead because of the wrath that just happened.
Yeah this is why it's more busted than in looked. It has hexproof but better.
@@swawslordcloser to shroud actually bc your own spells can't target her
It can still be removed with targeted abilities as long as the ability is coming from a permanent that was cast on a previous turn.
Also an edict like soul shatter would ruin your board
It can also die to kill spells copied with something like Reverberate because those copies aren't cast weirdly enough, unlike the og.
Atla Palani. Who doesn’t love eggs over eldr-easy?
Well. You won’t get the first ability :(
Only eldrazi i like in atla are ones with annihilator.
@@iankane3732 my Atla build is for a $10 budget league. Had to go with what I could afford. Only got 3-4. Can’t wait for that league to be over so I can really lean into the build
Rakdos, Lord of Riots will have a field day with this one
Pretty sure the double "from" means that it always has protection from spells, just that it also has protection from permanents cast that turn. So you need something on the board already or on the board for a turn before it can target/destroy etc it
Reminder of how Protection works: remember the DEBT acronym. It cannot be Damaged, Enchanted, Blocked, or Targeted by that thing. So yes, it survives Blasphemous Act but it dies to Wraths, to Farewell, to Edict effects, etc.
I guess you’d have to cast a spell and then copy it to target emrakul since the copy wouldn’t be cast
The copy would be a spell, it has protection from spells
@@The_Sharktocrab spells cast this turn. Copies aren’t cast unless specifically indicated
@@charmishingnope, its two clauses. It has protection things with different properties. If it had protection from spells that were cast this turn it would have to specify that. This instance never comes up so its very unknown
It's worded weirdly, but I think the protection basically says
"Protection from spells"
"Protection from permanents that were cast this turn."
There are plenty of ways to get around the second one.
@@SyntheticNuclear yeah it would have to specify it just like how the card specifies it has protection from spells and permanents cast that turn, reading the card explains the card.
Technically, it has two protection abilities. Because it says "from" twice. So "protection from spells," full stop. So never spells. And then "protection from permanents that ETB this turn." So Leyline Binding, creatures that were flashed in, etc.
But if a permanent has an activated ability that targets it or something, you could get around it. Just gotta wait the turn after it entered.
spells that force the player to sac him work right ?
Yeah protection just means it can't be destroyed, target, enchanted or blocked. It can be forced to be sacrificed like with Crackling Doom, it can be killed by things that do board-wide -1 counters like Toxic Deluge, etc. Anything like that works if you're not willing to wait for something on board
it does say "cast this turn," so you could flicker something like a Solitude to get it, too
@@ghostware6057only problem is if you flicker a detain spell you release whatever you detained with it
@@devforfun5618 Just edict
You need something like an Executioner’s Capsule. Some permanent that can be activated to kill or steal emrakul
By the time Emrakul gets cast...the damage is already done 👍
@@brianpenner9286 Ya, it absolutely hoses one person, but I look at it like a 6 mana, one person board wipe with a big body attached. That's not game ending in itself, people just need to actually build some interaction into their decks.
@@earbitter you had mentioned killing or stealing Emrakul but that doesn't change the fact that your creatures get stolen. Even if you counter it, the damage has been done 👍
@@brianpenner9286 you counter it, they keep the creatures they stole permanently. The steal trigger is on cast. The sacrifice trigger is a leaves the battlefield effect. If it never enters the battlefield, it cannot leave the battlefield.
@@dojomaster1987 I'm not sure what you are debating. I understand how the card works. I was pointing out the person who started this thread was trying to think of ways to steal Emrakul but it's kind of a lost cause because the damage has already been done. Killing is a better option but still won't get you your creatures back
I would play this in a box with a fox
The way you counter emrakul is you scoop as soon after emerakul takes all your creatures, so then all the cards they took are gone and now they're left with just an emrakul and then one of the other remaining players exiles it. And now you ruined the Emeralul player's day. You're welcome 😊
They can't exile it unless there's a permanent that's been on the board a while that can exile.
@@MunchKING nah they just exile it on the next player's turn. I know you're referring to an activated abilities of a permanent currently on the battlefield from the previous turn, but that's not the only way around it. Can also do it if the removal creature has haste, and if it's a non-creature permanent with Removal, then you can do it as soon as that permanent os on the battlefield. It only has protection from spells on the same turn it was cast. Path of Exile, Swords to Plowshares and many other spells can easily exile it, which makes the madness cost also useless. Unless the controller of Emerakul has an infinite combat combo coming up next or an answer in hand to your exile spell or ability of a creature with haste, it's dead in the water if you follow my steps in the first reply
@@OathOblivio What? It has Protection from spells, so no spell on the stack can target it.
It has Protection from Permanents that Were Cast This Turn. SO even if your dude has Haste it can't do anything to Emrakul.
The only way a Permanent that EtB this turn could effect Emrakul (in a way Protection stops) is if it wasn't cast.
@@MunchKING that's why I said on the next player's turn...?
@@OathOblivio ...
...
SO you did. Well, Someone needs more reading comprehension around here.
Looks friendlier than past Emerikuls. He has sort of a cheery "come up here in the sky with me" vibe.
So basically the only targeted removal you can use on it will be from activated or triggered abilities and even then you have to make sure the ability isn’t coming from a permanent that was cast that turn
I got it, get a suchi caveguard to die, this will add 8 colorless mana that doesn’t empty until the end of turn, then discard emrakul to cathartic reunion or fable of the mirror breaker and cast for 6/8 of the colorless mana. Now we just have to figure out how to get an 8 mana suchi caveguard out as early as possible and sacrifice it
Wouldn't Patchwork Gnomes in a colorless deck that waits until turn 4 or 5 to discard emrakul and cast her for 6 be infinitely better?
Had a conversation about this a week or two ago.
The protection means it can't be brought back from the graveyard with things like Animate Dead. The enchantment immediately falls off and your board gets wiped.
I bring this up for those who were thinking about throwing Emrakul in Anje Falkenrath
However any other reanimate card will work. But honestly reanimating this card is the last thing you want to do. Without that cast trigger it’s just a hard to remove flying 12/12. Which yes is strong but can still be dealt with
@biiill5259 more to it than that. Deflecting Swat and other redirection spells are devastating in that case.
@@KokNoker how so? You’re not allowed to redirect the target to emrakul since protection is symmetrical. And if you mean redirecting your opponent’s removal, just blowing their card up is a lot easier to do
@@biiill5259 Picture the following scenario Me: Animate Dead, targeting Worldgorger Dragon
Opponent: Bolt Bend, change the target to Emrakul.
Spells resolve, Emrakul is brought back. Protection makes Animate Dead fall off. My board is now wiped, along with the Anje that this hypothetical scenario includes.
Just to clarify it has a waste symbol specifically and not just a number
A slower Marchesa, the Black Rose theft deck would love it. The sacrifice is hardly a downside.
Is this even playable? Maybe in a dedicated eldrazi/colorless deck that uses urza's saga to get underworld cookbook as a discard outlet and has other outlets like key to the city
Might not be thinking in terms of Mtg but this sounds like a game ender. 10-12 turns in, players have a board astablished, just steal all their cards.
Probably tron decks
@@Tc900 I don't see it. I play Tron in modern and I don't know why I'd start cutting cards to play this and discard outlets. What if I only have one and not the other? Also, assembling Tron is not as important anymore given you just play incredible 3 and 4 drops (Karn, One Ring, O Stone)
@@64lundycoin commander? Oh yes. OH YES. Eldrazi are notorious for saying f*** mana costs.
That madness cost is a testament to that.
Commander has entered the chat 💬
It has two separate protections. First I has protection from spells. Second it has protection from permanents cast this turn. It's like 'protection from red and from blue'
Yeah so the way I interpret the card whena spell or creature attempts to interact with emrakul it checks if that thing was cast this turn.
This does mean if you get it if you don't cast a spell. For example if you had a storm count of 12 you could grapeshot it, because while you would cast the first grapeshot you do not cast the 12 copies you put on the stack which could target emrakul perfectly fine.
If you can reanimate a creature at instant speed that can block emrakul because that creature wasn't cast this turn
it still has protection from the grape shot because it's protection from spells not cast spells. in the same way you can fluster storm all the grape shot copies because they are still spells on the stack even if they were not cast.
but you are right about an instant speed reanimation creature being able to able to block because it specifies cast on the permanent.
this might make it clearer to read. it's static abilities are "flying" "protection from spells" "protection from permanents cast this turn"
The this turn clause only applies to the permanent part it just has protection from spells in general
Still gets royal assassinated lol
Unless she steals it with the cast trigger lol
Creatures that have tap to tap down a creature or exile a tapped creature etc. Can really only target this with on board effects. The creatures being the worst since you need to play them after the emrakul. Maybe some sagas or enchantments, and some plaeneswalkers could feal with it.
This is a comment that I was instructed to put here! Hi Jakey-Jo!
This turn is a turn to turn basis from said turn that the card was played. It's not every turn.
It's just protection from spells which. Then it also has protection from permanents that were cast this turn. So yes, all spells always.
This will spot perfectly into my animar deck. I will counter the daylights out of it and take your board as a consolation prize!
Great short!!!!
if you cast it, you can counter it and get the cast trigger
There’s an enchantment that says you can’t be attacked by firing creatures. Pretty sure that would affect this card after the first turn it was cast.
Neverinyal’s Disk and Magus of the Disk enter the battlefield tapped and are both board wipes that could take this out. Worldbreaker doesn’t enter the battlefield tapped, but it could take out Emrakul the serving turn its out, just be sure to have a cheap creature with haste in your hand and a Rogue’s Passage on the battlefield.
noncreature permanent that can reliably bounce Emrakul to hand, Omniscience, and you have a board wipe every turn (bonus points if the bounce permanent is an artifact and you can pull off Unwinding Clock and the blue Leyline in the combo as well)
A spell that wasnt cast can target or damage it, fork, reverberate, reiterate
You could target it with a saga like Battle at the Hellvault on it's decond chapter, its the only interaction I can think of
It's shroud with ore words and can still be targeted by equipment and other abilities so long as they weren't cast in the same turn they were activated
it still gets hit by actives later on, a great example is bounty agent. theres lots of stuff that hits it
Yooo this needs to go in my Zedruu the Greathearted deck! Play the spell, steal the green player's stuff, then donate it to someone else and shoot it.
You could also flicker a permanent already on the battlefield (solitude, leyline binding, o ring)
Cast it. Counter it. You gain control of all creatures and never have to worry about sacrificing them.
Player removal time.
I really want to play this, take control of the biggest board state, then donate it to the second biggest, and suddenly have only 1 opponent with creatures in play.
Funnily enough I’m pretty sure my muldrotga deck can get around this using sagas and sacrifice based removal, but still this card is tough to play around with
I got this card in a prerelease event. First time playing paper magic with cards I paid for and owned. only reason I knew what I had was because i watched a “chase card” video the day before.
Tron + Carthartic Reunion and some of the red rocks
I thought when the card said "Protection from spells and from permanents that were cast this turn" meant the turn it was played?
100% going in as my new colorless commander. My eldrazi deck just got better :)
I wouldn’t actually put it as your commander. That madness effect is incredibly strong so it’s better in the 99 u less you put in ways to get it into your hand
Lord Windgrace and New Emrakul if just pure bless.
The grammar part of me dislikes the lack of a period at the end of the second line.
you can still counter this with mind break trap for the casting cost since it a trap and channel abilities still work on it otowara beji.
Blink isnt a cast trigger, so you can blink a creature like Aerial Extortionist and exile him
It's protection ability is worded that way so it will be immune to effects such as leyline binding
This is going in my Zulodok tentacles deck
Acually if you flicker removal something like necratal, it would be able to target it, or if you reanimated it.
Yeah, would have to target it with something that came out on a different turn, so probably an enchantment, or for blocking, just nothing with summoning sickness.
Big brain play cast Emrakul and counter it that way your opponent can't get their creatures back because Emrakul never entered the battlefield.
this card proves colorless is a color without question
Hello baby, thats a big baby
The protection is for ETB abilities like Solitude
Unless you flicker it, causing it to enter without being cast.
The way it's worded it wouldn't matter if there were somehow a spell cast on another turn. If it said "Protection from spells and permanents that were cast this turn" that would be the case, but the additional "from" in the middle separates the clauses. So it's all spells always, and all permanents represented by objects cast this turn.
The second clause has some interesting interactions. Emrakul can't be Solituded, but she can be Solitude Ephemerated. The Solitude entering the battlefield from exile is a new object regardless of what happened to the physical card earlier this turn. If you Double Major a Solitude, the copy can eat Emrakul, as it was created on the stack rather than being cast. Flickering a Mind Control effect into play also works. Emrakul always dies if she blocks a Questing Beast due to the damage prevention cancellation ability on Questing Beast.
emrakul blink deck would be funny
I'll actually have a cute home for this in Jon Irenicus, you wanna donate your creatures to opponents, just casually send it over the table and then Otawara it back to hand, targeted board wipe potential!
Or just put it into my top tier Raffine because I need any more reasons to get brutalized at the table 😅😅😅
Small note, peobably wont come up often or matter but creatures that come into play but are not casted (eg off collected company) would be exempt frlm the protection
Protection is only granted the turn it comes into play
false on cast take target players creatures. static abilities are "flying" "protection from spell" "protection from permanents cast this turn". when she leaves the fields sac your creatures. and madness for 6 colourless.
Don't forget about Suspend. (not that anyone will make good use of that.)
Suspend doesn’t work either. Suspend simply exiles the card then when it runs out of time counters you may cast it from exile without paying its cost. But it’s still cast
It in fact does not die to board wipes outside of nevinnryals disk basically
I think that's protection from all Instants and Sorceries, just in general, so your opponent has to have removal or boardwipe on a permanent to remove it
Basically, you have to attack over it
I still don't know if I'm gonna put in my colorless Eldrazi deck.
Gonna need to invest in Goblin Cratermaker
The protection wording allows you to be able to block Emrakul. That is all. Don't try to think about it too deep. Counterspells are not an answer either. The cast trigger will take all your creatures but there would be no leaving trigger.
Not true. You can still use activated and triggered abilities as long as the permanent with the ability wasn't cast that turn.
@@Theoszombie The cast trigger will resolve before emrakul is in play. You won't have anything to activate or trigger.
@@herpderp66 Artifacts, enchantments, planeswalkers, and lands.
Run Mistmeadow Witch. Blink this card. See the terror in their face as a 2-drop word their board. And it's not alone. This is powerful, but at least there is hope for counterplay, unlike Aeon's Torn, which might as well say etb and win
Seems lika a fair creature for tron. Maybe discarding it with a underworld cookbook. Turn 3 12/12 spaghetti monster that steals all your opponents creatures is stronk enough for modern. But in legacy i gues we have to use some grim monolith action, maybe with any of the untap keys.
So just have a teferi, time raveler in play before this hits the board ;)
Also spells that can tutor permanents into play will get around this, such as chord of calling, collected company or even aether vial
you would need an activated ability such as Nevinyrral's Disk and the like.
Legacy decks with show and tell can run this:
Sneak and show
Omnitell
Etc
Tron and reanimate decks. I have plans for hollow crabvine and I wanna play at least two of this
My raffine reanimator deck just got a new fatty. Probably not reanimating though since that madness cost seems extremely doable.
Kill it with things like Avatar of Woe, Crackling Doom, and Mass Removal
The thing with that madness is in modern, Tron would be useing that most of the time, but tron doesn't have much in the way of discard synergy. And the decks that do care more about discard tend to be black and run almost none, if any, colorless lands.
Vona, Butcher of Magan would kill her if he was cast on the prior turn. Tap him, Pay the life, she's not indestructible, and she leaves. Sadly if you control him, you will be targeted for having your stuff stolen first, probably.
Note, you steal an opponent 's creatures. Bounce or Flicker her to get rid of your opponent 's line of defense.
Yet another reason I keep Homeward Path around.
Only thing I can think of that can target it is stuff like channel you can kill it with sacrifice effects and boardwipes but say you had a ratchet bomb with 12 counters that came into the battlefield this turn it couldn’t be sacrificed the turn you cast but you could on the next turn to kill her I read it like she’s protected forever haha I feel a lot of players will be casting a creature that turn to survive and block and forget emrakul will have protection and you won’t be able to block her 😭
Cast it for cheap then counter it yourself. You get the cast trigger of "steal all of your opponent's creatures" but since it never etb'ed, you never have to worry about the trigger that sacrifices the creatures
Patchwork Gnome's time to shine
Am I the only one who reads the protection part as lasting only the turn you cast Emmy?
I think the Protection, Checks only the Turn Emrakul ist casted, so you cant bitter Triumph it on the ETB but you can Bitter Triumph it in your Turn.
When a static ability doesn’t say when it activates it’s a continuous check. If it said “when this enters the battlefield it has protection…” it would just be the etb but since it lacks that “this turn” is the current turn
If you have ways to play things without casting them (reanimating them) you can target it though same with any flicker effect. There are quite a few ways around it just not generally popular versions. Any creature that can destroy a creature later like a deathtouch pinger or sacrifice creature with greatest power
Parallax wave wait a turn
It also could be hurt by creatures that came out last turn
I will put Emrakul into my Ziatora the incinerator deck just to send a message, and if you know that commander you will get it
dies to an edict
Considering it takes all your opponent's creatures, they would need quite a few edicts (unless they're not playing a creature focused deck).
What a shock a creature dying to removal 😂
That second line definitely needs clarification. I understood it as you can’t do anything to it the turn it comes into play.
So protection uses the ‘DEBT’ acronym, meaning it can’t be Damaged, Equipted/Enchanted, Blocked, or Targeted by anything cast on a given turn. This notably doesn’t carry over into another turn.
This Emrakul *can* be destroyed or exiled by a spell that doesn’t target (‘destroy all creatures’ effects) but if a spell deals damage to everything, like say a “Blasphemous Act”, then that won’t effect it. It *can* also be countered before it fully comes into play. It does not have protection from say, an ability that lets you discard a land to destroy it. Also, anything that sticks on the field for a turn can damage, target.. etc.
Say for example, your playing a slivers deck, and you have some slivers on the board from previous turns. You play a “Necrotic Sliver”, which gives your other slivers the ability “{3}, Sacrifice this permanent: Destroy target permanent.” Emrakul has protection from that Necrotic Sliver, but does *not* have protection from the other slivers that were already there. Therefore, you could use the ability the necrotic sliver gave the other slivers, and one sliver that was already on the board to destroy it.
Alternatively you could use twelve variations of “Prodigal Pyromancer” or “Prodigal Sorcerer” to deal exactly 1 damage twelve times in one turn to kill it, so long as none of them came into play the turn you wanted to do so.
Protection isn’t completely impenetrable, but you do generally have to jump through some hoops to get around it.
Time to start running counterspell tribal.
It still steals your things. And if it never hits the field that self wrath doesn’t trigger
Even better, cast Emrakul and self counter it. You get their creatures and Emrakuls leave the battlefield doesn't trigger ever.
You should be able to get around Emerakul's insane new protection by flickering a permanent that has an ETB Exile clause. Flickered permanents are new objects and have no recollection of ever being cast
The madness cost is six "wastes" not six generic if you catch my drift.
Oh baby! She’s solid
I want a Emrakul for my Anje Falkenrath deck and my eldrazi deck
