I am very grateful that you make it possible for us to follow your fantastic adventure. Such great scenery, great people and good spirit along all the way. Thank you!
I've worked there and been to these places and would love to hike the trail. The Jordanian people are great. Great video. I can't think of another trail that will give you the kind of history that this one does. Jordan is a great place to visit, its tourism is very un-commercialized. But it is barely known to Americans. From scuba diving and fishing in the Red Sea, to the Dead Sea resorts, to world heritage sites like Petra and Wadi rum, to religious holy Land sites..... Ancient pre history ruins, Roman ruins..crusader castles.. Bedouin still living nomadic lifestyles...... It's all there. In many places it's like stepping back into the Bible.... Yes, people still use donkeys, ride camels, and dress that way. The entire history of mankind has left imprint on this small piece of land the size of a single US state. It is very interesting to see how people still live in other places in the world. Experience another authentic culture..... Not some watered down tourist version. No better way to immerse yourself in it than to hike it. Amman is a modern city and is where most jordanians live.... But many of the smaller towns and villages don't even rate third world classification.
I am 100% doing this trail. I was an Arabic translator in the US military and it would be so wonderful to backpack this country and enjoy the people in a peaceful loving way. Thanks so much for the video.

Hi, amazing movie. Me and my son loved it. Can you tell me more about temperatures and weather conditions in late October and early November in Jordan and is it possible to hike it in this part of the year? Thank you.
The talk in the desert with the cool boy, who rides the camel, is really funny: "Salam!" - "Salam!" - "Kifahalo (How are you?)" - "Oh, I like your camel!" - "Camel...- " "How are you?" "(Her Name is) Dschahad."... "Where from!?" "England!"... "Oh, great!"... "Yes..." Levantine Arabic is all the same in Syria, Palestine, Jordan, Libanon.

Hey Jon! Great video! Really helpful to get an better insight. I'm planning to hike the trail this year as well and I've done some research on water-supply. I've read more than once that people relied on water drops by guides. In your video it looks like you managed to find water? Was that true for every single day? I think water is my biggest concern on that trail! Highly appreciate your answer!! THANK YOU
hi frankie water when hiking solo is definitely a concern especially with out a guild, I was able to purchase water in villages always carrying a Minimum of three litres ,only drinking the last litre when I knew I was within a short distance to the next water supply. most days I would be able to top up my water at Bedouin camps also enjoying many cups of sweet tea. @@jonepoulter7524 yes Jon thanks so much. I found those after I posted my question. just wondering if you first have to download maps to your computer or if by connecting your Garmin GPS you can download them directly into the device. Nick
Hi Laura Regarding your question I would say the Jordan trail is pretty tough especially for solo hiker’s carrying enough water and food was Quite a challenge. Also the vast and remote areas can be quite intimidating. Gps is Essential to complete the trail if travelling with out a guide. Altitude is not a Issue Although there are many sections of demanding steep uphill tracks. One thing I forgot to film was the many Aggressive dog packs that enjoyed Intimidating me when I passing through villages or Bedouin camps . So if you are scared of dogs it’s something to think about, Throwing a stone at them, or even pretending to throw a stone would usually see them running? Hope this helps a little Regards jon
hi nicolas Scorpions and snakes are not the problem its the venomous spiders ? sorry mate just joking! My only advice if you're really worried, would to be vigilant when packing up your tent, and maybe keep your boots inside. I only saw two snakes and one Scorpion on my trip. Hope that helps have a great trip jon
@@jonepoulter7524 Thanks ! Another question: there seem to be quite a few stretches without water sources. How did you manage ? Did you carry a lot of water ?
Hello great video ! I'm planning to do the Jordan Trail and I have a few questions: did you buy the Jordan Pass ? Did you pay the touristic attractions like Umm Qais, Petra or the Wadi Rim ? Can you make firecamp ? What about the water springs, are the plenty enough along the trail ? Thank you 😀
hi kaklabe sorry for the late reply, as I've been away travelling in India. I will try and answer your questions I decided not to buy the Jordan pass as its only valid for two weeks. However I did purchase tickets for Petra and wadi rum. It is fine to light fires for cooking or boiling water almost anywhere obviously just use common sense? Springs for water are few and far between, depending on the time of year? i always carried a minimum of 3 L and on the longer legs up to 5 L I also often toped up in Bedouin camps. I hope this helps have a great hike jon
I used a Garman x trail gps it worked really well for me but would recommend choosing a model that can also be charged by usb rather than running by battery alone? As x trail battery life was only two and a half days . Have a great hike Jon
My journey was unaided I carried a minimum of 3 L of water and on some of the longer stretches as much as 5 L also carried water Purifier MSR trial shot it is very lightweight used in conjunction with chlorine tablets. I found Bedouin very kind I would always be offered tea and they would top up water bottles . Hope this helps Jon
Great video!! I will be going with a friend in a few months and this video has gotten me very hyped! The only thing I'm concerned about is water and food- were there sections of the trail where you were really concerned about finding water for the next day? Or moments where you had to diverge from the trail and properly go searching? And regarding food, how often could you restock? What did that look like? I have allergies and don't think I could eat too much of the food offered at camps along the way. Any info here would be appreciated! Cheers!
Hi Hugo Will try and help with some of your questions? I passed though villages or small towns every day or two ? Where I could buy some food I survived off two minute noodles and tins of tuna plus dates and Jordanian Pastries and sweets which were fantastic for energy. would always travel with at least 3 L of water some of the longer legs I had to carry 5 L Bedouins would always offer cups of tea and would help with water when possible. I Would recommend taking MSR Clear shot water purifier very lightweight also take chlorine tablets. One thing my video doesn’t show are the dogs that can be very Aggressive but Throw a stone at them and they will disappear! Jordan trail web site will give lots of advice and you should be able to download GPS files for Navigation as only the first 80 km are way marked . Hope this helps a little All the best Jon
Hey Jon, that was amazing! I have one question to you. How about visa? Did you extend standard 30-days visa or paid a fine for additional days when leaving Jordan?
hi mihau glad you enjoyed the film, I paid extra through the Jordan Embassy in The UK to have a 90 day visa? Unfortunately unknown to me as it wasn't explained I was still required to have it stamped every month at Police stations which kind of defeated the purpose? so i was fined at the airport I think it was about 25 pounds it was a bit annoying as I had paid nearly £100 for the Visa.[ only bad experience of the entire trip] If I visit again I will just get the standard 30 day visa and extend every month at local police stations hope this helps jon
Great video Jon, Im planning to hike the trail if u can help 1. what GPS device did u use/recommend? 2. do u think its doable to take the trail backwards from Aqaba to Um qais?
hi samer Garman etrex 30x I purchased it through a UK company called GPs training I can highly recommend them. I cannot see any reason why you cannot compleat the trail in reverse apart from you would obviously miss out on a celebratory swim at the end? hope that helps.
Hi Jon, After committing to doing this route with a friend next year, this has just reinforced our want to accomplish it. Thank you so much. We have been a little unsure about doing it ourselves without a guide for some/all of the trail. Mainly due to language differences and the fact we are two women travelling alone. I wondered what your thoughts would be on this? The Jordanian people seem unbelievably welcoming but don’t know if it would be a lot more difficult for us? Also, any pointers on gear essentials or things you’d wished you’d brought? Or a pack list relevant for this thru-hike Would be great to hear from you. Thanks so much.
Wow I absolutely envy you for this trip! How regularly were you able to buy food and found some electricity..for charging your camera and gps? as this was not shown in the video
hi life is good sorry for late reply , just read your comment. food and water every day for most of the trip but some parts longer so would ask for water at Bedouin camps? solar panel for charging. hope this help.

My only advice if you're really worried, would to be vigilant when packing up your tent, and maybe keep your boots inside. I only saw two snakes and one Scorpion on my trip.
Hope that helps have a great trip

@@jonepoulter7524 Thanks ! Another question: there seem to be quite a few stretches without water sources. How did you manage ? Did you carry a lot of water ?
Hello great video ! I'm planning to do the Jordan Trail and I have a few questions: did you buy the Jordan Pass ? Did you pay the touristic attractions like Umm Qais, Petra or the Wadi Rim ? Can you make firecamp ? What about the water springs, are the plenty enough along the trail ? Thank you 😀
hi kaklabe
sorry for the late reply, as I've been away travelling in India.
I hope this helps have a great hike

Brilliant video! I'm walking the Jordan trail in October, really excited about it even more after watching your video! What GPS did you use?
I used a Garman x trail gps it worked really well for me but would recommend choosing a model that can also be charged by usb rather than running by battery alone?
As x trail battery life was only two and a half days .
Have a great hike
Jon
@@jonepoulter7524 thank you very much!
@@jonepoulter7524 Did you arrange any water drop offs from any guides or did you just carry enough?
My journey was unaided I carried a minimum of 3 L of water and on some of the longer stretches as much as 5 L also carried water Purifier MSR trial shot it is very lightweight used in conjunction with chlorine tablets.
I found Bedouin very kind I would always be offered tea and they would top up water bottles .
Hope this helps
Jon
Great video!! I will be going with a friend in a few months and this video has gotten me very hyped!
The only thing I'm concerned about is water and food- were there sections of the trail where you were really concerned about finding water for the next day? Or moments where you had to diverge from the trail and properly go searching?
And regarding food, how often could you restock? What did that look like? I have allergies and don't think I could eat too much of the food offered at camps along the way. Any info here would be appreciated! Cheers!
Hi Hugo
Will try and help with some of your questions?
Hope this helps a little
All the best
Jon
Hey Jon, that was amazing! I have one question to you. How about visa? Did you extend standard 30-days visa or paid a fine for additional days when leaving Jordan?
hi mihau glad you enjoyed the film, I paid extra through the Jordan Embassy in The UK to have a 90 day visa? Unfortunately unknown to me as it wasn't explained I was still required to have it stamped every month at Police stations which kind of defeated the purpose? so i was fined at the airport I think it was about 25 pounds it was a bit annoying as I had paid nearly £100 for the Visa.[ only bad experience of the entire trip]
If I visit again I will just get the standard 30 day visa and extend every month at local police stations
hope this helps

@@jonepoulter7524 yeeah, paperwork...always don't know what to expect. Thank you for the answer, helped a lot!
Great video Jon, Im planning to hike the trail if u can help
1. what GPS device did u use/recommend?
2. do u think its doable to take the trail backwards from Aqaba to Um qais?
hi samer
Garman etrex 30x I purchased it through a UK company called GPs training I can highly recommend them.
I cannot see any reason why you cannot compleat the trail in reverse apart from you would obviously
miss out on a celebratory swim at the end?
hope that helps.
many thanks Jon
Hi Jon,
After committing to doing this route with a friend next year, this has just reinforced our want to accomplish it.
Or a pack list relevant for this thru-hike
Would be great to hear from you. Thanks so much.
hi miriam i would be glad to give you any advice on the trip drop me a email at jonepoulter@gmail.com
IL NE FAUT PAS LE FAIRE MOINS D' ETRE pris en otage et cela coûteras cher au gouvernement ; mais si vous avez trop d'argent ok !
@@galianaify etre pris en otage?! lol ma chere
