A busy Sunday. But a happy one, because after many weeks, we got to step out, just the two of us, the Boss and me. ;-) Lunch, some minor retail therapy and coffee.

The name Karavalli brought back a deluge of memories. I hv always been an avid reader/collector of food mags, a habit that i inherited from my mom. I remember reading three page articles on them in editions of Savvy Cookbook, Upper Crust, GoodFood India, etc etc. This was somewhere in the 90s up until the first decade of the 2000s. Long before YT came into our lives, it were these very magazines, that worked as the bridge, a connecting factor, between us and the then under explored world of food. However, no matter how exciting the world of Audio Visual maybe today, there's something magically charming...old school... about leafing through a cookbook, the written verse 😊 Will always remain grateful to all those publishers, editors, contributors for their vision who helped us build ourselves a mini library at 🏠
Yes, these magazines had their own charm, with many the sort that were keepers. Curious to learn if you ever came across our magazine, Food Lovers?
@@KripalAmannaVlogs Unfortunately no! But I really wish I had. I'm sure I wud have loved adding them to my then existing collection as well. Adding on to your query, the ones that I mentioned earlier were widely circulated & easily available in my city in those days, apart from their foreign counterparts like the Australian women's weekly, Family Circle, etc. Oh yes, thr was ग्रह शोभा, Cuisine, some Cookbook spls from Femina, Women's Era, New Woman, Eve's Weekly...off and on, as well. Plus one published & edited by Karen Anand. Cannot recall the name ryt now.

Oh! St Marks Church. We the Christian borders of Bishop Cotton Boys and Girls School used to attend the service on Sundays. There used to be carnivals before Christmas holidays too. Oh! I miss them.

Each time I come home to Bangalore we go there for some appams, malabar style prawns curry and the black pomfret in the banana leaf (Do try it if you have not!)

In the early 2000's, my memories of the Gateway Hotel were the Appam and Stew at the Karavali and the yummy fare at their street facing Coffee Shop

The lady, your better half, is so right in whatever she talks and does and so courteous and regal in her behaviour and always polite to a fault to everyone; why she should be referred to/called ‘boss’ when she has least bossy disposition. Anyway, calling wife ‘boss’ sounds like a cliche, just like calling wife the Home /Finance Minister.

incidntally, Kripa, as Madam (an evolved person lucky to be with you)mentions, we are like Bamboo shoots ? No but Peepal Tree roots going deeper into the womb of our Mother Earth & branches reaching to the skies & beyong Kailas & Vaikuntj, touching the Lotus Feet of both Shivji & Narayana & beyond them the Cosmos. On the branches of this tree we see a variety of birds building their nests to roost, squirrels, loris, monkeys & even serpents. Underneath, it provides shade to tired bipeds, some playing cards, some chit-chatting, children playing, the vendor cartmen segregating their veggies discarding old ones as monkeys & squirrels come to pick them up. The poor vendor who has no tooth poblem just eats Ragi Mudde(finger millet) with hardly any vegetable, yet keeps strong & healthy. Life is multi-dimensional. Pl. keep going - incidentally I am a Bangalorean having lived for 3 decades. Behind Sai Gold Palace there is a 300 year old Peepal Tree at the foot of it an ancient MuneshwaraTemple exists.Sairam ( I am on FB under same name with interesting inputs)
It was a pleasure seeing you dive into topics of spirituality and personal relation. However, it was a bit saddening to see someone who communicates good practices while riding and driving to have held the phone camera in one hand while driving. Do correct me if I am wrong, but this is something I inferred from the reflection in your sunglass. I am guessing it is an automatic car, however, not having both your hands in 10 and 2 on the steering would not be the ideal way of driving. The phone slipping out of your hand alone could have been a distraction while driving. I suggest you to use the go pro that you usually attach to your helmet while riding the Harley for such videography if required or attach a holder. Hope this comment is taken as a well wisher’s advice. You are an example of a wonderful persona from whom people need good influences.

Kripal Bhai Sahab - Considering your experience in reviewing Biryanie from Hyderabad (the birthplace of Biryanie), may I suggest that you should visit London to review Biryanie restaurants in this area of London where nearly every Appna restaurants claim that their Biryanie is more authentic Hyderabadie Biryani than anyone else’s. I am tired of such claims.!! Yar!! I love your choices of adjectives in your reviews.!!!

Its good to be in those places but very overpriced. I prefer a more common place restaurant. Anytime I feel like I instead give a 1000 rupees to someone who needs it.
I was taught as a kid wealth is an trust from God ( though we were not well off those days) if the poor hasn't got it it's because his share was not delivered by those who God gave the task to.
Sure I indulge some times but I keep it to the need instead of just spending it away.
