I didn’t know that people actually did this. Because it is cost effective, and I was recycling a canvas, I used light weight caulking. It has been 7 years. Still looks great.
Our products in New Zealand are less flexible. More likely to crack and not recommended for a timber floor because of movement. For several years I've been using flexible Selleys "No-More-Gaps" from a tube. It works too.
Do you know if this material (tile mastic) can be mixed with acrylic color before it’s applied on the canvas and if it’ll have archival quality? If so, what would be the next step after it dries to conserve the quality?

Hello, do you prefer to use tile adhesive instead of plaster of paris? Is there a major difference in the mediums? Is one better or easier to work with? Thanks!

Thank you for sharing this with the world! Your video inspired me to get creative with texture! I have a question. I have a 40x60 canvas and aim very disappointed with how it came out. Can you use the mastic over the existing paint?
I'm pretty sure you can. It obviously needs to be completely dry. With the mastic being so thick, I don't think it would be a problem. I also have one that I completely screwed up and I'm probably going to go over it with some heavy medium. I'm still working on smaller canvases so I haven't bought the mastic yet. Just my 2 cents. Good luck!
Rule of thumb, regardless if your canvas says primed, always gesso it. You never know if a pin whole is in the wrapping which will leave gunk, and as well if the person packaging it touches it, then you have a greasy film.
I have used gesso like modeling paste and it worked well for me! It dries softer than modeling paste. I painted acrylic over it which made it dry firmer. I experimented when I ran out of modeling paste.
You can find the acrylic mastic and the trowel at the hardware store in the tile area. The trowel is used to apply the thinset or mastic on a surface at a consistent height level.

You are a great teacher. Thank you so much for that.. As a beginner, I needed that
Thank you for taking time to show different techniques.
I used to love watching my carpenter dad use this and now I love to use this in my paintings. Funny how it all comes full circle.
Does it add much weight to the canvas?
@@gazzyd4102 I used it today. It was heavier till it dried. I'm still learning.
I bet your dad cracked up when he saw your 'art'.
Great information on some really reliable texture! Amazing how it sticks to the canvas. WOW!
That’s also my style of painting, it’s my absolute favorite way to create artwork. Thanks for the suggestion about the tile mastic.

Great idea using the tile mastic thanks.
Well that was handy. Couldn't see a thing on that canvas. Chuck it in the cross light ,so we can see what's going on. 👌
A great video full of innovative ideas. Thank you for sharing.
Great ideas! Thanks!!!!
Thanks for making this video. im going to try this out with some of my paintings

This is so great. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Is the texture stuff archival quality...? Or any idea how long it lasts?
Late reply but I’ve dabbled with tile adhesive and it is very, very strong. So would be hard to remove, And how long it lasts I am not sure.
Good to know these techniques. I used to paint and now painting again. Having trouble finding the tools, like the notched trowels???
Search Amazon for notched trowel.
Resale stores
Lowe’s or Amazon
Or make your own- cut into plastic knife or anything you find.
Do you need to seal this mastic before you start painting …..thank you‼️

Luis Figo's painting.👍

Is the Texture Mastic archival, tho?
Do I need to gesso over it before oils, or right on top? Thank you so much, very helpful video. Let me know, thanks!

Thank you!! I’ve been watching videos and could not figure out how they got the texture on the canvas.
Great video
Has anyone tried this? Does it dry and break off after a time? Did you seal the painting it with a varnish afterwards? Was it compatible with varnish?

make your own gesso to prime it. There are several videos on how to make gesso.
Truck to success as you show not. Too thick but great texture
What do you use to prime your canvas?
Ppl are saying gesso
Hi with what do you prime your canvas please thanks x
Probably gesso
Can we buy primed canvas ready in store for large sizes?

Prime first, then texture.
Would gesso work similarly?
No, gesso is too liquid. Gesso is a primer. You'd need something with a lot thicker consistency.

Can that be sanded?
Will the unused portion of the adhesive dry out quickly in the bucket?
Not if you put the lid back.
where can i buy the jagged edge brush thing?

How thick can you put the mastic on?
When it drys on a cotton canvas wouldn’t it crack?
I've used dry wall mud before and it doesn't crack unless you force it. I assume this would be similar.
some close up shots to your technique would be really nice as your canvas view needs work.........just saying.....
