    Admittedly I'm an Illinois alum and fan, but I have to say that this was one of the best games I've ever seen at any level. This Northwestern team was truly the "Cardiac Cats"

    I was at this game with my nephew in the South end zone. To this day, all he and I have to say to eachother is "54-51" and we know what the other is referring to. One of the BEST games we ever attended...

    I'm an NU alum and was a 5th string walk-on QB for the wildcats during the late summer of 1976. I witnessed the dark-dark days of the late 70's to early 80's. I quit the team under coach Pont and was so fed up with them losing that I tried to walk back onto the team in 1979 under coach Venturi. A long story for another venue. There's an incredible spirit and power behind the NU "wild cats" - something about Lake Michigan, the water, Chicago, whatever.

    Like so many Michigan fans, I was very frustrated with the performance of the defense, especially the way the front seven of Michigan was manhandled by an unsized Northwestern offensive line. This game marked the beginning of the end for Lloyd Carr at Michigan. They would go on to beat Ohio. State, but the Buckeyes hired Jim Tressel right after and the rivalry with OSU hasn't been the same since. Also this served as a precursor to the disaster that was Appalachian State in '07. The erosion of Michigan football started on this day in Evanston, and still has effects on the Wolverine program to this day. I hope and pray Jim Harbaugh can turn it around, because I'm sick of losing to Ohio.St.

      Bobby Holloway I've always hated UM, but they are ordinary, only an average Big Ten team. OSU may beat them the next 20 years. NW was very good this year of 2000. Can't believe Anderson was not an RB in the league. Go Bucks.

    Ever since the NU upset over Notre Dame early in 1995 I have been doing more praying than watching during these incredible games. This game found me in a hammock reading a book while praying for an NU victory while my family was screaming and yelling out the highlights from our hotel room inside Disneyworld. I saw only bits and pieces of the early part of this game. I committed myself to praying for an NU win and never left the hammock until the incredible win was booked. Whew!!

    @Knightmessenger Yeah, NUBears is right. This game was INSANELY long. There was so much scoring that they kept going to commercial breaks and it just extended the game. I was watching this game in my dorm at Ohio State and it basically echoed through the hallways. We were all just so entertained by it because it was like playing NCAA on the Playstation.

    Coach Randy Walker passed away 20060629, 2063 days from this da (20001104). 2063 is 105 from 1958 which was the advent of the 23rd "I (9) Am (14)" cycle of 89 which is the prime of Leo (356) = 89 prime X 4. The final score, 54-51 adds up to 105.

      Three (3) cycles of 2063 days from Randy Walkers passing 6/29/2006 brings us to 6/09/2023 which will be our 33rd anniversary. 3-33 (333) is always 23 “I (9) Am (14)” from Leo (356). The year 2023 is the eve of the beginning of the final 23 “I (9) Am (14)” year cycle of the 23rd cycle of 89 years which will end in 2047. When you conjoin 23 prime and 89 prime you get 2389 - the Leo (356th) prime number (include 1 in the count).

    What I don't get about this game is how the entire 2nd half is at night. But seeing 1995 Penn State at Northwestern on Big Ten's Greatest Games, there was still some daylight until the end of the third quarter.
    Both games were played at 3:30 on November 4th after the clocks had been set back to standard time. Did this game just have way more commercials and time outs than the '95 one or something.

    • @SilentService697
      @SilentService697 Před 6 lety

      I was at this game with my nephew in the South end zone. My theory would be that because both teams flew up and down field for large gains that the clock hardly moved. There was over 1000 yards of total offense in this game. Every play seemed to go for a first down and, as we know, the clock stops every first down. This IS one of the wildest games in B1G history no doubt. Late in the 4th qtr, as a Northwestern fan, we thought the game was lost, but when Anthony Thomas fumbled deep in Michigan territory, all I remember is seeing the entire South and West side of the stadium (was a 50/50 crowd) erupt in the loudest roar I ever heard at a Northwestern football game. When the final secs ticked off the clock during the botched Michigan FGA, my nephew and I saw the entire student section start charge onto the field and we looked at each other and said, "Let's do it!" So we hopped the railing and ran the full length of the field to join the students celebrate one of the greatest wins in Northwesterns history. Such a wonderful memory...
