We are Linnea and Akela. Through the van build, I used my stubbornness and drive to show individuals that they, too, can convert a campervan by themselves and on a budget, with a lot of learning, rolling up the sleeves, and getting to work.

My husband built a water box. Basically a wooden insulated box with a lid but no bottom. That way, we set it in the lake, it freezes around the box but when you open the lid, you have open water all winter.

I think it's pretty great you both have your own spaces. It's more fun and you don't always have to sleep together to be together. You could have date nights and take turns creating a romantic evening. 💟
My wife and I have lived separately for 15 years. The only time we really had any trouble was the 30 months we lived together. We love the difference between the two of us. We are very different and we love that about us but we also love our private spaces which makes the love so much easier to find you know?
Nothing like having your own space especially if you have a dog near you on your bed.Or a cat.

General rule on baking anything in a Dutch oven is 1/3 coals on bottom, 2/3 on the top. I’m in the process of converting a van and love your videos!

Thank you so much Michelle! We both have a Verizon hotspot that we rely on for uploads, and Starlink just in case (but that draws a lot of power so we try to limit that!)

One of the things we do to secure ends of wood piles is pound in a couple t-posts. Helps keep the stacking easier.

Here's a hint on bread if you do not have a thermometer to check the interior temperature. Turn the loaf over thump your finger on the bottom of the loaf of bread, if it sounds hollow it's done! 👍

I'd love for you to share your sour dough recipe when you get a chance (if you have one for a traditional oven). I've never made it before because I've been to intimidated. All of the scientific steps, materials and information overwhelmed me.

I live on the west coast of Canada but I grew up back east. You are bringing back so many wonderful memories of winter life in the woods. There is something uniquely magical in that environment. Enjoy and I hope you both have a peaceful, healthy and happy Christmas. I miss my sled!

Msg 2- I live in my camper up at the homestead with my husky, to tend my gardens I got great info on your cubic mini My house burned mid last March was able to get our the wood stove from the basement but it's too big for a camper I heated water on it and cooked throughout summer ,, an apartment in town for winter and I miss my solitude,Woodheat, woods, etc... so thank you for sharing your winters with me

I'm the same. If I am hot while I sleep I get really uncomfortable and have nightmares. Side note.. I think its really cool you both have your own space. I think its essential.
Heet and sleep don't go together! I always have weird and scary dreams when I'm to hot at night. We always sleep with the wi doe open, even if it's just slightly, even when it freezes. Glad you slept well again. 😊
Right?! I couldn’t figure out what was going on and then Chris actually googled it - that’s when we put two and two together, otherwise I don’t think I would have assumed it was just the heat!
@@Linneaandakela yeay for google! I've had it since I can remember. Also my migraine is much worse when my head is hot. I have dreams where I'm walking around trying to do something important or get somewhere, but I can hardly see for the pain in my eyes. When I wake I actually have the pain in my eyes. So rather 10 blankets and socks than warm air. 😊 It's so much fun to see you guys having fun out there.

Linnea there is one heck of a storm coming your way. Im in Menomonie Wi. Foot or more of Snow and a big drop in temperature. Way below Zero. Put some kind of skirting around your vehicles. Even snow will help insulate your vehicles. I lived in my 48 passenger schooly for three years in the Mountains in Colorado.

I recently started making my butter from scratch takes about 10 minutes and heavy cream and a wisc or a mixer if you got one. What you can do is put any herb you want, in that and eat it on your homemade bread 🍞 🍞 🍞 🍞 🍞 have a nice time 😊 bye-bye

Just want to copy everyone else has said, I'm in Arizona but left Ohio at 10, my mom raised in a smallish shack in a holler in the back woods of kentuck. With 8 sisters and a brother, through the depression, I'm sure life was almost like you are living. She did however have a cast iron stove she talked about a lot.
Stacking the split wood, it's my understanding to try to stack bark side up as a natural cover to the wood.

Cool video, A big storm just started in Montana today.My grandpa used to make sourdough pancakes when we went camping.They were the best.

I'm sitting here in Western Australia, a huge fan of your channel and I'm loving this new chapter. It's 34c (98f), the begining of summer for us. The lowest it gets here in winter is -1c (30f) and that's at night when I'm tucked up in bed so I know I would struggle with being so cold. Watching you make your bread reminded me of when we would go camping with dad. He was known as the "damper" guy. It's an Aussie bread that's sort of like your "biscuit" but was just delicious straight from the camp (Dutch) oven and drizzled with Golden Syrup or honey. Less prep time and it's def not bread but I can highly recommend it. There are heaps of recipes on google if you would like to try to make one. I'd just like to wish you both a very Merry Christmas and I'm looking forward to the rest of your journey up North.
