All these years later still one of the greatest fights I've ever watched. I remember how tense this fight felt watching it live. Two warriors in their primes. Miss these days of boxing.
Definitely a classic!! Was waiting for someone to whip Taylor after he got those decisions over my Favorite fighter in Hopkins!! Pavlik definitely came through after getting knocked down early!! Hopkins down the line defeated Pavlik flawlessly!! All GREAT Fights tho 4 sure!! 💯💯🔥🔥🔥
Watched this fight live at the Royal Oaks in Youngstown. The place almost collapsed when Taylor went down. Greatest fight I have ever seen.
wooow, what an epic experience.
I saw this live and it was an amazing fight.
This was a golden era of boxing. So many great fighters across all weight classes.
True but this year has been good so far
Kenny Bayless would've stopped this fight in the second round. What a comeback.
You mean Tony Weeks or Richard Steele
Me and a buddy played pool with Jermain Taylor at professor bowl in LR day after HBO fight night in 2001! I remember him appreciating us treating him like a regular person as exec's and ceoc's and fans continued to interrupt our 2 on 2 pool games.
One of the greatest middle weight champion fights of all time. I was truly inspired by Pavlik's rise and how he held on for dear life life when JT shook him. I still remember it until this day and I think some of yall feel the same way.
Great fight I knew Taylor would lose so I bet on pavlik and won $50 bucks 😀😀😀😀😀👍🏽👍🏽
This fight never gets old .
Same here brotha. Great MW fight
Ok
@@jimnagel5611 For sure ..... never the same ! If he could’ve finished Pavlik when he had him hurt I think it would’ve put T on a completely different path . But who knows ? When you have a banger like P hurt dazed and confused you better finish him instead of gassing out! Great fight
What an amazing fight. Someone was leaving on their shield. 2 amazing warriors in their prime laying everything on the line. I miss hbo boxing
Had forgotten how great this fight was. Pavlik is one of my all time favorite fighters.
I'm here for Dana White's 1 million bet loss... And wow, that was one of the greatest fights I've seen... Didn't hear about
The ref in this fight was amazing
will never forget watching this fight live, classic
I miss Emmanual Stewards effect on boxing. Legend. .
YES!!!
Epics instructions on this fight
That was a vicious battle. Two very hard punchers with hearts of lions but Pavlik looked as if he could stand up, brush off his pants and take a stroll about town if a freight train hit him...
Z
Wow! Until I heard Dana White lost a cool Milly on this fight, I never knew of it.
One of the all time great fights & I've seen a bunch at 60 y.o.
Loved both Pavlik and Taylor. Great fight.
Man, being from the Youngstown area and knowing Kelly, this is great to watch again. He's a legend here... Wish he could've went on for longer than he did as a boxer. This fight was so good. Boxing isn't the same anymore, this was a great time for boxing.
Is Youngstown a rough area?
@@kdolo100 Yes. To put it mildly....
I'm from Michigan and I went down there to visit my girlfriend and he happened to be signing autographs at a Chevy dealership, and I got to meet him and he signed my ring magazine, it was the coolest random thing.
My dad was an Ohio state trooper. He said the biggest guys that graduated from the academy always got sent to the Warren post, if that tells you anything.
I fucking loved pavlik based off this fight.
Matching him with Hopkins was an AWFUL career move. And then I realised his corner man was absolutely terrible. His advice between rounds was often either basic, or actively bad advice.
Those two things ruined him, imho.
"You wanted a modern Middleweight classic? You got it!" 🥊🥊
I still look back on this fight with fond memories. Remember watching it with my older brother. Couldn’t believe Pavlik had won. It wasn’t just that Pavlik won, it was that he withstood the early barrage, and somehow had the strength the bounce back. Taylor a hell of a fighter, just wasn’t his night.
love that memory, Taylor was a superb fighter, especially at 160. The fact he got stopped against Pavlik and Froch (168) shouldnt disguise how great he was.
I remember this fight. I just couldn't believe it when he KOd Jermain Taylor the way he did.
this is the perfect fight to me. 2 undefeated guys, contrast of styles, back and forth war, lennox, larry and jim on the mic, manny stewart in the corner, smoger the 3rd man.
lederman foreshadowing after the 3rd round "jermaine taylor doesnt stop straight right hands too well" was an amazing observation considering it was taylor who had dropped pavlik in the second. and larry merchant saying "taylor wanted a conventional fighter...he got one." pavlik does the basics so well. 1-2, 1-1-2, all day.
Well said, great fight. I miss this era of boxing so much!!!
These were two talented and hard hitting middleweights.
One of Jermain Taylor's problems was not just stamina, but lack of defense as well. He lost this fight equally based off of poor defense as well poor stamina
UHH.. AND AN INCREDIBLE WARRIOR THAT BEAT HIS ASS ‼️☝️💯
The previous fights before this fight of both their careers, Taylor vs Wright and Pavlik vs Miranda I watched. When Kelly beat Miranda I told my dad, either one of those 2 would beat Taylor. And wow, Kelly beat the brakes of a vehicle with no brakes. Unbelievable fight.
This was the first fight I attended live. So many great memories! I still have the bloodied towels I took from the ring with my best college buddy at the time.
Absolutely brilliant fight. When Terence Crawford fights in Omaha the crowd there has always reminded me alot of the fans who got behind Pavlik - an unfashionable place with a top fighter, and when its a great fight like this they make it even better.
Watched it live from just outside of Youngstown. The roof blew off when Kelly won. Awesome bout.
Pavliks straight right punch was something else.
I loved watching Kelly Fight he was a gritty kid with tons of heart
Ghost is a dope name tho
This fight cost Dana White $1,000,000 🤣 revealed on the FULL SEND podcast. WOW! What a fight!
Amazing video quality
Great fight!
I think many refs stop this fight at the point when Kelly nearly goes down a second time. Pavlik had NO business getting past those three 100% clean punches landed in the replay (nor the other 15-20 punches landed in the volley) he had even LESS business winning round 3! Wish we could see more title fights like this: competitive. Competitive fights often break out into exciting fights. I hate to sound like most other old fart boxing fans but for the most part, things just ain't the same
Yes, very true, but le me tell ya, the punches landed were bombs from both fighters. Its a brutal game. Long term damage is no joke
@@joelewertow5979 I think that’s why Pavlik retired so early. I believe he was only 29, he knew his style got himself hit a lot
@@ac21cody8 And he’s doing well. He sounds like he’s got all his faculties.
Great great great fight
Didn't know much about kelly I do now man got up being down in early round Damm good job I like him well done champion.well done.
Jermaine was my fav man. Was never the same after this loss. He had Kelly beat!!!!!
PAVLIK ,GOT LITTLE TEX COBB IN HIM : TOUGH !!! HE MADE HIS FAMILY PROUD !
Are we ever going to see a fight like this again!!!???
Golovkin-Canelo II?
Prime Kelly was a problem
I wrote jermaines fight song I'm proud to say..
Taylor looked like a young Michael Jordan
This is great heavy punch confirm Nice ❤👌✊
This was such a great crowd, holy shit. The energy.
Pavlik can take a nuclear punch in taylor
Damn Pavlik took that punishment and somehow came back
I went to this fight with my dad. Great energy at Boardwalk Hall. We also went to the Pavlik v Hopkins fight. Thought Kelly would win that one but BHop put on a clinic that night. I’m from Philadelphia area but I remember Youngstown representing very well on both of those nights.
Some fans think that the Hagler/ Hearns fight was the best round in boxing history. I respectfully disagree in that this fight was like the Hagler/Hearne fight for EVERY round!
"This must be a good fight I've already got five dots of blood on my shirt"
God I love boxing.
RIP Steward.
Pavlik took it to Taylor
Still fun and exciting to watch. Taylor for sure had his moments but to me it looked like he was running out of gas every time he attacked Pavlik with combinations. After that Pavlik had his momentum. Back and forth. But Taylor looked more sloppy and less careful in his defence. Pavlik never let him rest and collect himself. Great fight.
To bad we never got to see Pavlik against Abraham or Froch.
From your fans in Australia Kelly 🇦🇺 Thankyou ! Great fight ! ⭐️👏🏻❤️💯
Woow!!!! What'a fight!!!!
How many jab from Kelly Pavlick!!!!???
Woow!!!!
Very nice boxing style from Pavlik. I like this guy.
imagine you go to a world shampion ship fight, two undefeated, oposite styles, both knowing that they go every round to an epic war, knock down, comeback, broken nose, kockout of the year contender, the screeming of the people, and yo go home with a blood stained shirt; what an epic story.
Jermain Taylor was my favorite boxer of this era Sad what happened to him
Definitely at round five I'd give edge for boxing ability to Pvlik and the edge for punching on the counter to Taylor.
P0à0pp0
This was some Hagler-Hearns level fighting!
Now this was a fight. Pavlik took Taylor's soul.
Exact.
Thank god the ref let them fight for as long as they did.
Wonderful fight. Whipple Drive went nuts
Kelly has a huge frame like Tommy Hearns
hey Tony if you see this, you're gonna crush whatever it is you're getting fired up for
Love this fight 🥊
One of the things I love about boxing is when the champ brings his belt into the ring, and the other guy walks out of the ring with it.
What an epic feeling bro.
My favorite referee Steve Smoger
What a great fight!!
Boy, you talk about a fight that you thought the winner and loser could change and turn on a Dime. Great effort boys.
ЖАЛ ,СУПЕР ТАЛАНТ БЫЛ КЭЛЛИ ПАВЛИК ....
For the love of God can someone please fix Pavliks shorts..... Thre almost on backwards!! 🤣🤣🤣
At love where the lady In white sits down @ 33:50 like there was a pause in action nobody could see 😄
Sean Strickland's win over Adesanya recently made me think of this fight. White guy a massive underdog and wins the world title. They look and fight alike too.
i remember watching this fight thinking, theyre gonna kill each other! that Pavlik right hand is like a ball and chain!
great fight
No count...wtf? Ref didn’t even give him 1 second. Pavlik was dropped by a similar combo in the 2nd round and given a full count.
He was unconscious.
Can’t give a count to someone snoring
@@b_collins7846 yes you can if they wake up before 10 seconds. Tyson Fury was snoring for 3 seconds and then he got up and won the fight.
Bro you sound silly he was slummed over half dead!!! White dude was knocked down but never a KO you don’t know much about boxing do you?
@@jaayeee24 He wasn't waking up....end of discussion LOL 😆😆
you can even see uncle al in the crowd!
I'll w***hkkkkkjkkkkkkkkkkkkkklkkkklklll"
Beat me to it!
I just like that gentleman who is announcing the boxer
Al Haymon very much enjoying the fight. Pretty close to center screen during the hard camera* shots
*I think that's what the main camera is called in wrastlin'
Taylor refused to do the voluntary knockdown after that 2nd right straight from Pavlik, if he did that maybe the outcome of this fight might be different.
You’ll never see boxing 🥊 like this again! Nowadays u got a bunch of soft boxers.
Ghost got a excellent chin
Saw this fight live. Me and my best friend Dana. He bet 1 million on Taylor, thought we had it in the bag.
Nice to see the beaten fighter give respect to the winner
Both great middleweights
That's how you beat anybody in boxing basic 112
Also love that pavliks corner kept stressing to use the double jab to make him keep the hands in place then follow it with the body shot. Took Taylor's conditioning and that awesome 1-1-2 to land the big right that landed over n over
A wild Al Haymon has appeared
Somebody's O didn't have to go because it could have ended in a draw! Then nobody's O would have gone!
Pavlik est un véritable puncheur bravo à lui
This is how the referee should’ve allowed Usyk to knock out Tyson Fury 🥊
Defend it well skill power.heart.make a great name for your self impressive young man.
Al Haymon in the audience.
i fkn love this sport
Ini baru petinju sportif yg luar biasa jep itu yg membuat petinju jadi indah
Pavlic proved too much for the weak champion in Taylor...Had his number...The whole crowd was for Pavlic in this place..Taylor had a chance to put Pavlic away but proved to weak to do it..The real heart of a champion is to be able to do that but Taylor proved he wasn't that guy..Pavlic embarrassed Taylor in his knock out...Beautiful finish and set Taylor up perfectly
Genial Pavlik, un genio
..hasta que le.tocó medirse con nuestro 'maravilla' Martinez..chau Pavlik..quevaser..a todos nos toca
Youngstown stand up!!!
Taylor blew his wad a little early, head hunting not enough bodywork either(Guys like Pavlik you can hit them in the head all day and they will keep coming), looked like Pavlik was more committed to the body and it paid off later. Up until the stoppage I did have Taylor comfortably ahead like two of the judges, I had it 58-55 Taylor, thought Taylor was more accurate, despite Pavlik doing more work.
Kelly is one of my best friends time into his podcast the punchline with kelly pavlik and James Dominguez or go to punchline.live
Idk if Bruce Buffer drinks but he seems buzzed or really tired in this bout.
Man why Kelly keeps punching to the back of the head almost everytime they clinch.... And he just gets aways with it.. wtf is referee looking at :(
