- Within a few weeks, here we are again discussing issues within the Singapore Train Community. This video is pretty much a follow up to the previous video I've done. Recently, a video is going viral of possibly a few train enthusiasts getting told off by SMRT staff in regards to their repeated requests for train horns. Another video that was being circulated, is a few train enthusiasts touching a decommissioned train.
With viral videos, comes with much debate and criticism. I just had to slot in my own thoughts. Sit back and enjoy the video.

To update, there was no train captains that got fired from what I’m hearing. Which is a good relief. Heard that they were mostly given advisories.
Some enthusiasts said that a few tc got fired so they are saying fake news

Again, not so sure how true it is. However, if it is, they really should’ve known better even though most likely they just wanted to make the kid’s day. At the same time, kid should have known also this really was a costly mistake.

There has been recent incidents with a particular train enthusiast in Singapore, who has consistently been causing a lot of trouble with the MRT system.
Those reading this exchange, it happens to be the same person who forced open with the Platform Screen Doors (PSDs) at NS1/EW24 Jurong East MRT Station in March 2023 last year, resulting in authority matter.
Earlier in May 2024 last month, he was also involved in many illicit parties, such as causing a ruckus, shouting, yelling and causing a dramatic scene in PUBLIC during the debut of the SMRT seventh generation train running on the North South Line at NS28 Marina South Pier MRT Station and in the train.
Later in June 2024 this month, he was also involved in pondering with the SMRT train captain over his request to experiment/test the train horns. This could result in not one, but many train captains to lose their job in due to the incidents above. The stakes of these consequences to his actions are high.
This eventually made the reputation of the rail enthusiasts community being dragged down to the core of the Earth, with the community associated with transport groups, Friends of Land Transport (FOLT) turn down on us as our role of being a transport enthusiast alone.

update: he also has been a part of the people who kept on risking there safety at Tuas by standing in the middle of the road during the train scrapping.
This dude, we all have already told him the consequences that would arise from asking for horns... he ignored us, and he shall reap what he sowed.
Well, if he ignored you all despite all your warnings, then everything is very much deserved 🤷♀️

Recently, its 2024 it’s quite disappointing to see how train enthusiast community might began downfall due to incident, just 1 week ago 839/840 then suddenly it came up again, I started to step down my train videos for awhile after June holiday until when everything goes alright, as am already annoyed.

Marina South Pier, despite being a least-used station is notoriously known for making incidents in the train enthu community.
Earlier, i went filming from changi airport to tanah merah, i was literally anxious that an SMRT staff will pass by and see me recording but good thing i was covered by the crowd. And when i transfered to bedok bound, i ride an R151 and filmed from tanah merah to bedok, still the same thing earlier i was anxious but ik some TC’s understand some enthus who wants to film but WHAT IF i will get the same situation like Mr Main Character Guy 😭😭

Nothing wrong if the staff approaches you asking about your filming, just explain that you’re a train enthusiast or you’re just filming for your own interests. Talk nicely and comply with their instructions.

while yes the SMRT website does allow photography and videography for private use with some provisions, at the end of the day the station staff still has the right to say no for various reasons, but the part where he said "permission from another TC" is just another level of wtf

I get it man. Like, I myself when younger always been itching to drive a bus. However, I also know it’ll be very irresponsible of me if I was to do so without the proper license. The time will always come if you really want to aim for the job 😐

Rail service manager can also occasionally drive train, can choose train model somemore (at least once a year to refresh memory)
Whereas TC cannot choose train (they just drive whatever they're assigned)

Hmm, to me i also don’t know if i really feel that it is an issue but yes, the safety is my main concern here. Especially there’s alot of big heavy duty equipment and stuff moving around. One wrong move might cause a huge disaster.

Also, requesting train captian for the horn is not permitted by the law. Unless the entitled train driver in the front didn't move after door closing.
Also, speedy will get sued by the SMRT manager if continue this behavior like this.

I feel like the worst victims are those that are similar age to them (problem causers in the train community) but know how to behave as the older train enthusiasts may judge them. The train community got pulled down but seems like lots of people know mr main character age and they older enthusiasts may see them as the generation who are the ones pulling down the train community so they may get criticised even through they weren’t involved in any of the problems cus by enthusiasts similar to their age. :(
Oh yeah definitely, people who aren't troublemakers but around the same age might get fully judged from other enthus becuase of other troublemakers. Very sad.

Wow some of these actions are more extreme than in HK, I never heard of people try blocking train doors or requesting the driver to whistle here in HK😮
Here though the problem lies on the people who have a very strong interest but willing to drag others along with it

It's quiet sad to see 3 Train Captians losing their job,this kid shouldn't have kept on asking for horns tbh because horns should only be used when needed,ppl entering the driver cab is also a serious offence as if those kids anyhow press buttons or cause a train accident which is very dangerous,i really hope SMRT can give the 3 Train Captains a final chance and not fire them like how they warned other for the horn
Surely since the kid must be 11 or something that's why the train captains didn't want to let him down as he is still young,but if he's like an adult then they can easily deny and report to the station staff right away!
I got an update from friends, heard that train captains weren’t fired after all. So that’s a major relief. Yeah, enthus really need to know their boundaries and train captains should be wary of the troublemakers too.

I feel like it's already very annoying to see some train enthusiast asking the train captain to honk. Like a few weeks ago idk is it that kid that got scolded but yeah, he just keep saying can you please honk when they say no like cmon man.... They say no then don't need to be so demanding......
It's bad enough when the train captains had to inform the annoying enthus that they have asked almost everyday to stop. Really shows how much times they've been asking. Extremely obssesive.

I dont live in singapore but I dont understand why they cant honk the horn. They defenitely shouldnt honk the horn while stopped or let kids in the cab. Usually in the US they honk when arriving in the station if someone is standing too close to the tracks or someone reuqests the horn
Singapore I think is much more conservative and different on rules compared to the USA. Even the police don’t use their siren unless it’s a super urgent case. Noise pollution could be the reason why but I myself also isn’t very clear on when is it allowable or not.
Maybe to avoid a "boy who cries wolf" situation? Horns are often used to warn people after all. If the TCs honk their horn to the rail fans (or anyone) all the time and they get used to the sound, it will be quite dangerous if any rail fans did stand too close to the line and the train is approaching as the sound of the horn isn't alarming anymore. Just my own speculation tho.
@@DanChan-qb2ec in Singapore, the stations are protected by a lot of barriers and there is a announcement when the train arrives and its quite loud, so there is no point to horn and create more noise.

Is a horn that rare? Every train coming out of the depot has to do it once before it moves out of the stable. There's more rare features that they don't know even existed in the first place.
