  • After living on a boat and more and doing some reseach, i figured out these three rules to avoid condensation in small living spaces like vans, liveaboard boats, tiny houses, etc. if you're converting a van, building a tiny house or already live in a small space with moisture issues, this video may be helpful.

Try fitting a humidistat to turn on the van 12v heater fan on low power through the windscreen vents. This should draw in cold (dryer) air in the coldest area, and push out the warm hot air when it becomes too humid. Power it from aux batteries so it doesn't drain the main battery.
Clear your windows with a microfiber cloth in the mornings and wring it outside. They are the coldest spot so use them as a dehumidifier. Use a towel under the windscreen to catch the drips - wring it out and wash & dry it often.
Always ventilate a LOT when you are cooking, and fill hot water bottles to stay warm with later.
Use a dry heat source to warm the cabin on a low heat for a long period. Short bursts and cold nights are the wrong way to do things.
    - And park in a sheltered spot not in high winds if you want to stay warmer.
If you get a dry day - use it to dry all your bedding and van out.

I'm building a tiny house and this was incredibly helpful! I've looked at some other videos that in the end just become advertisements. I really appreciate the pure technical information on how I can solve this problem and why it occurs in the first place.

i have all tips, just ventilate, if cant then make prety vertical walls where condensation instead droping on u, rolls down to side and can be collected away from where it create trouble. much easier solution than isolating or heating, specially in minimalistic living conditions

thanks for the input! I did something like that for a while. it kind of works, but the air inside will still be very moist, potentially leading to mold and rust. my cast iron pan and laptop got rusty! just ventilating strongly with no heating works, but your blankets will get wet in the morning, like in the sleeping bag example. i had some blankets that got a little moldy in the end! of course it's possible to switch out several blankets so they can dry after each night.
