- The LSU Women’s Basketball team faced its biggest challenge since star Angel Reese has been away from the team as No. 7 LSU (7-1) closed out its Women’s Cayman Islands Classic slate with Virginia (5-2).
It turns out that having another of college basketball’s biggest stars and one of its best transfers is one way to overcome losing the 2023 Final Four Most Outstanding Player.
In fact, it was Reese's replacement in the lineup that starred in the game. Aneesah Morrow, who transferred from DePaul after averaging 25.7 points last season, scored 37 points as LSU beat Virginia 76-73 in John Gray Gymnasium at George Town, Grand Cayman Islands.

Morrow, who scored 28 against Niagara on Nov. 24, scored the most points of the Women's Cayman Islands Classic so far and also grabbed 16 rebounds. Morrow entered the starting lineup when Reese's absence began and has scored 92 points in the four games.
Hailey Van Lith, a transfer from Louisville who led the Cardinals to the 2022 Final Four, had adjusted her role early in the season to be less of a scorer. But with the extra firepower to the lineup needed, the senior has answered. She scored 20 points against Niagara and added 12 against the Cavaliers.
A day after routing Tulane 81-59, the Virginia Women’s Basketball team pushed LSU the whole way. The Cavaliers were led by Paris Clark who scored 19 points. - Sport

Morrow is not new to this almost single handly beat uconn last year and was the 4th person ever to score 30 against uconn when she was at DePaul last year

If LSU didn't start MW, and Flau'jae Johnson, she'd probably play the wing at the 2 or 3 position.
At Depaul, her team probabl (I'm guessing) wasn't big enough, so she played the 4 there. Saying all that: She's looks strong; got a big booty/thighs, and is explosive-has hops, which is why she can play on the blocks. So, her height is deceiving. Nonetheless, she's versatile and can play offense out to the 3 point line, and certainly within 18 ft. That quick turnaround looks like a weapon for sure.

Angel Reese gave her the nickname Neese the Beast. She had to get used to Mulkey & the system now she lights out, just like at DePaul. Adding Reese,Thompson and Smith back in plus a big games from Williams & Johnson will be fire. Since they are not playing together, there is not much film to game plan against them come conference play. That can work in their favor.

And each one "Blowing Up" at different times, when the other one is hurt; out, or in foul trouble, allows the team to see what each player "Can do". This is so, when the other comeback, they can now trust the various players in tough games, when the team may need to go to the "hot hand". Much easier, when you've seen your teammate carry you in a game, vs what they did with that "other team" somewhere else. LOL

She want have those numbers when Angel comes back plus Angel can’t shoot so she’ll stay in the paint therefore another defender will be in the paint and they definitely won’t do that to South Carolina.
