Product information
The Indigo Dyed Dress is a gem of a fusion of traditional and modern style. It is also an item that you will feel comfortable and naturally fit into every time you wear it.
The indigo dye used is a traditional Japanese dyeing technique using natural indigo, and is characterized by its deep and beautiful blue color.
This one-piece dress has a simple yet sophisticated design, making it a piece that can be easily matched to any occasion.
*It is a one-of-a-kind item.
Absolutely horrifying that he's wearing zero PPE while working with lye. Please Sir, protect your health.
His hands are as indigo as the coulouring
The final piece is stunning but the two most impressive parts to me were him breaking all this threads with bare hands, and learning that you can buy sake in cartons.
I was at his dying studio in February. Toru is an amazing artist. He had beautiful items drying and amazing items for sale. I have an appreciation of the attention to detail that he has in his craft. Unfortunately true indigo and shibori dying is becoming extinct. Primarily due to economic reasons. Indigo growers do not make a profit and the work is hard and crops are inconsistent. Plus there are only a few people who can tie the fabric to produce the beautiful designs. Much of that work is being outsourced to other countries.
I’m surprised he’s not wearing gloves, especially when he was pouring the lye into the vat!
Awesome vid!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️❤️❤️
not just the glove but also the fumes of lye
The first guy to come up with this recipe: "You know what we really need in here?....that's right, a carton of Sake."
Sir, please take care of yourself.
You are a human treasure.
I want you to know that you are valued and appreciated.
Thank you!
It's hard to not respect the Japanese crafts people when they work so hard at their trade. And you can't help but appreciate what they do and how they do it and it's all for the benefit of others. Some of the finest pieces you will ever see are done by Japanese craftspersons. 美しい
His hands remind me of Yondu. Excellent work. Thank you for sharing. Have a blessed day.
A huge amount of work but a very Beautiful end result.
Blue hands are probably his badge of honor or prestige in his world.
The crafts on the website are INCREDIBLE ❤❤
I know that there intensive apprentice periods for craftsmen who make all sort of items. Is there such a period for this as well? I appreciate the color of his hands. He wears his craft.
I was at Toru’s studio in February. He apprenticed another dyer’s studio in his twenties(if I remember correctly). He has no one to take over his studio. He does everything in the traditional method. Even having his dye pots in the ground to maintain consistent temperature. Toru has a son who worked with him and would hand it down to the son. However his son has other dreams.
@@Loyal-cat...Hold on a little while. Great and positive changes are coming to the Earth. The great reset is happening but it is on God's terms to benefit his faithful children.
To Patric Frantz. You do not sound mystical you sound unhinged. The lord is always in our midst and is always a benefit to his creation l
Thank you for sharing the most extraordinary and entrancing creation of Japan's Indigo dye. The transformation, of what appeared to be a long piece of knotted rope, to the most beautiful and spectacular fabric with pattern is one of the most astonishing processes I have ever seen. Superb! Bravo. To see such an artist produce this fabric is a privilege. ❤❤❤❤
Awesome! A lot of dedicated and hardworking people in Japan
Stunning! He’s amazing!
Beautiful. Hope the gentleman stays healthy!
that proud blue smiley boi
Absolutely beautiful. What an amazing process
The hands of a craftsman who has been dyeing indigo with his bare hands for 40 years are dyed with indigo.
This craftsman is a professional!
Thank you so much for your comments!!
This is called WORK, few in America indulge. !
@@donnadees1971actually in the 18th century in South Carolina Indigo dye was made by slaves. I’m sure you can’t say they didn’t work hard!
You should not praise him. There are many protective measures in place to prevent employees from being chronically poisoned. Although his job is professional, it would be wrong for him not to protect himself.
@@donnadees1971 ....do you live in the US? If not, hush up.
I'm wondering if he ever gets his hands and arms free of the blue dye? I see at the end of this video his hands are relatively free of the dye, but nails seem to hold the color. As usual, fantastic attention to detail and work nobody would do today. Thank you for the video.
I really appreciate this culture instead of capitalistic zombies walking all over the world.
I wouldn't be able to make this in 336 days
Truly amazing 😊
Thank you so much!!!
Absolutely Outstanding !!
Absolutely love the pattern
...
Absolutely beautiful process of an absolutely gorgeous piece.
Thank you for the post...,.
EXTRAVAGANT!! Amazing Craftsman. Thankyou.
thank you that was so beautiful!
What wonderful work and technique, he is a master at this editing 🧡🙏
Increíble trabajo.
Stunning craftsmanship! ❤
Parabéns ❤
Que talento!!
Deus te abençoe sempre!!
Merveilleux travail de spécialiste.
This blue is stunning!
Beautiful, thank you for sharing!
Thank you!!!
What dedication to his art! Wonderful video!
Beautiful.
Costui è un artista sopraffino. 👍
I feel bad for him that he doesn't have goggles or breathing equipment. 😢
Or gloves 😧😔
Looks well ventilated enough but I would definitely recommend some eye protection
Probably he prefers doesn't use it
I can guarantee he does have them, or at least has easy access to them. In countries with no workplace regulations many people would rather not wear annoying ppe.
indigo is safe
Beautiful, thank you
Magnifique..bravo❤
Caught blue handed!
Thanks for sharing this video...
Thank you too!!!
i appreciate a country that has kept original traditions and trade work. hopefully, things will change and the current generation will not let any of their heritage end. don't follow American behaviors. this work is beautiful and worth the price you ask. i hope the artist is paid a majority if what is being charged. i would never be able to do any of what he did. thank you so much.
He appears he takes pride in his indigo dyed hands. Much the way I take pride in my ink blotted apron. Unfortunately in America time and dedication does not equal compensation. I am envious of his admiration as well.
Beautiful
Hopefully that’s dye and not bad circulation 👍🏻🏴
Hope he likes blue.
KREATIF 👍👍
It is interesting to see the fermentation process.
One question though, at one point, the lye he pours is colourless. At another, the lye appears as a grey sludge. Is this due to mistranslation or are there different kinds of lye?
Seriously? He is not using any safety gear, i.e., hoggles, gloves, apron! I'm astonished.
The place is well ventilated. And depending on the dye type, he should be fine. Also he was probably offered gear but denied. Can’t always assume :/
I wonder what would be his favourite colour
Gets his hands mostly clean. But those nails are forever blue.
AMAZING ❤❤❤❤
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Magnifique!!!!!!dur mais beau travail
Thank you so much!!!
seems like something that can (and probably should) be automated pretty well
Oh Wow.
❤️
This legend is a dragon amongst lions.
RESPIRANDO TODA ESA LEJÍA YA DEBERÍA ESTAR COMPLETAMENTE ENVENENADO.
There is a reason I use already reduced indigo!!
His hands! No gloves! No way that washes off, either! Commitment!
Also... explaining why he's using the ingredients he's using. Why ash? Why bran?
You are great ! What you do with residual indigo solution ?
The pen is blue!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Lye is deadly how is his organs still working
Not for nothin, but shouldn’t this guy be using PPE? Just sayin.
Oooh. He should have a mask on to protect his face and eyes and breathing.
The place is well ventilated. And depending on the type of indigo dye, it shouldn’t be too bad on the lungs.
Thousands of years without PPE. I'm sure he'll be fine.
i wonder if he has permanently stained his skin?
That was a really great video, and what a great piece of art/clothing. $2,200 also, not cheat by far………
Not cheap
Lye can give you a chemical burn
I wonder if anyone can guess where he works.
The Indigo hand man as he is called in his neighborhood....
Wonder what his favorite colour is?
MY THOUGHTS/OPINION ONLY
19:51 I am quite surprised such a small amount of fiber is put into large vat of dye. Kinda seems like waste 2 me??
It is a beautiful color tho! Thank u for sharing
Thank you!!
I’m sure he makes quite a bit of fabric from that vat of indigo.
Is this steam or vapor from the lye
The colour blue is not much seen in nature. To produce and garner that colour takes a lot of effort.
❤💖👍
❤
I really wish this man would wear protective chemical gloves and eye protection at the very least. Lye is no joke stuff. One bad splash of that stuff in your face, esp the eyes, you could be blind for life. Pretty sure it's not great to breathe in either.
Bekommt er seine Hände wieder sauber?
So, he just appears to go through life with blue hands.
*caustic alkalai fumes clearly irritating the craftsman's eyes*
'The sight of the steam coming out is very magical.'
... sureee...
I noticed that, strangely, all his shirts are blue.
Any ideas as to why?
Pour a little Sake, drink a little sake...lol
Amazing process but I worry that this worker does not seem to have any PPE available. He looks like he has permanent blue hands together with using chemicals for which he hasn’t any respiratory or eye protection. A full overall for protection, a review of the ergonomics of his working and a Risk Assessment together with a Health & Safety Assessment seem to be the minimum necessary.
Dude needs a vent and fan to blow in fresh air. His lungs must be so damaged by now.
poor dude has permanently smurf`d hands?
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
nvm, i see it`s only his fingernails after all
