Gotta agree that this is the greatest Pumpkins tune ever written. I mean, how did Billy manage to write this epic track, at such a young age. Also, to note, he looks the happiest I've ever seen him, in this video. He's young, talented, and has hair. Whiny or not, the guy is a freakin' genius. Cheers to this great video of a classic.
Rolling stone magazine voted this song from a poll of pumpkins fans and determined that this is the most popular song by the band, by a significant margin!
Thank god for my first girlfriends brother who gave me this cassette tape when it was released... it inspired me to a incredible part of my life in playing guitar and is a top album for me ever recorded. Mayonnaise is the climactic peak. This is a beautiful version in their prime and in the greatest teenage years of my life... I was happy to see Billy, James and Jimmy together again in Dallas this year!
“I love my mom” written across the top of his guitar. Made me get teary eyed! Omg. Such a great song and awesome guitar talent. Billy was/is a musical genius. 💫✨
This song is called mayonaise because after billy finished the song he went into his fridge and low and behold the first thing he saw was mayonnaise. So he called the song mayonaise. Classic billy
This is what music truly is. Its emotional, expresses ones self, and induces feelings that can only be felt when listening to this song specifically. Siamese Dream means so many things...
i wonder who billy makes eye contact with about 4 1/2 minutes in, that is definitively quite a sly smile. also, can u imagine being there and hearing this song for the first time, live? good god...
I was driving home to see my family and brought a friend of a friend to see his girlfriend that lived nearby (a 3 hour drive) First time spending time with him. I let him listen to the radio, while I had my air pod in. Eventually he asked what I was listening to. I told him , smashing pumpkins, thinking he probably never heard of them. He perked up and said play mayonnaise. I gladly did. We jammed the whole way. He became my best friend for the next year. We both moved to different cities and eventually lost contact with each other.I recently found out he passed away. RIP Marcus. Hoping you’re hearing this song in heaven. Save a spot for me.
when his voice cracks when he says I just want to be me, its hard to find emotion like that in any music. Just that emotion makes Billy Corgan a God to me up there with the likes of Elliott Smith, Kurt Cobain and Matthew Good. You just can't fake emotion like that.
It's like, when I'm sad this sound is the representation of my feelings and I think it happens the same thing to a lot of people, It's the same when I'm happy, I feel a beautiful nostalgia... you just gotta love the smashing pumpkins
This era was , to me the top of their powers as a band. On SD every song was epic. All these performances from this time were incredible. This is Smashing Pimpkins, the greatest band in the world at this time.
I watched this video 10years ago first time So emotional...I have not words for this feeling with this video and this song... So many feels and memories in this song...
Billy Corgan truly has an amazing voice. One of those that cannot be duplicated. So glad hes one that made it through those 90s Alternative years & still going🤘
this music was one thing that I happened to be the right age for. Billy is 2 years older than me, and I was there for Siamese Dream and later album tours. I'm an avid music listener but Siamese Dream is the most listened to album in all my collection. It was a music revolution. For a brief time, honest emotion and great music writing came together and was recognized.
Was 13, a smidge too young for the concert. My 7th grade history teacher got to go see them in Austin. I was dishappy. BUT saw them in '96! Garbage opened. I might be old now?
Just remember, when you were having your experience as a young person with this music, there were older people who scoffed and said “kids these days don’t have anything like (whatever band they were into)”. The kids today who you think have no idea what good music is are making their memories now. Let them ❤
In the mid-90's on those cold, dreary, overcast February winter days, when I'd get depressed and lay on my big cumfy couch with a blanket over me---this was my themesong. ---An Awesome Jam!
wow. all siamese dream and even gish songs have such a brilliant structure...theres nothing compareable to this masterpieces...wish billy will return to this outstanding sound
This is not only one of my favorite songs of all time and my favorite song from the Pumpkins, but this live version is the best. I love the special ending. They should have done that for the Siamese Dream album.
i agree, i am so nostalgic of the nineties, ever since my first love of music - alternative obviously when i was a preteen i wished i actually was a young adult in the prime time of great music in the nineties. smashing pumpkins is my all time favorite band, they were formed when i was born.
This is my favorite video on CZcams and the best version of Mayonaise I've ever heard. The Pumpkins were at their peak here, and this film a perfect portrayal of the band. Whoever shot this bootleg is a genius. Thank God it's back and I hope it stays.
YEAH!! Sounds just as beautiful, powerful, sublime, awesome...etc...etc...as it did back in the day! I feel privileged to have come of age during an era where such incredible music was the norm. My life has been enriched BIGTIME and it played a major role in shaping who I am all these years later. Those poor young bastards today....I pity them...
I agree!! I saw them on that tour when I was 14. I BEGGED my mom to drive my friends and I out of town to see them...I even took my yearbook picture in that blue Mello Collie concert tee. Ahhh memories.
I have 2 questions: Why have I never seen this video before? and How can anyone not like the Smashing Pumpkins? This is one of the most touching performances EVER. Thanks for posting.
I saw them n the fall of 1993 - I was 18 - and the stage is identical . They had mirrors just like in the video . I saw them in Iowa city at a real snazzy ballroom . Awesome to see that stage . I thought the mirrors were a really imaginative touch . Thanks for uploading this piece of SP live history ; to make me remember of that Great Night - which was my 2nd time seeing them live . My 1st was in 1991
I would say this is my definite sound of 90s..i remember hearing this song on my walkman going to the convenient store to buy cigs in the middle of the night..20 plus years later..it still have the same feelings to me
This has to be the best live version of this song on the net.I adore this song so much it reminds me of when i was like 14/15 and getting wasted everyday and writing songs & rebeling ect..ect..same what every teenager was doing at that time.Oh how i wish the Original lineup were still together not that bollocks billy calls SP nowdays,Still i thank everyone for uploading old skool SP's videos like this as it gives fans like myself the memorys we need. Thanks for upload.
In my humble opinion ... one of the best guitar intros song ever.
"I love my mom" the most badass words ever written on a guitar...
James iha co-wrote the song
+Oliver Hecker James only wrote the intro cords everything else was Billy
you mean the chords the whole song is built off of? Billy gets more than enough credit for what he did on this album.
Chris Teevan I love this man ❤️🤘. Forever a Fan.
easy, remove one chord from Purple Rain and you got it!
This is one of the best songs I've ever heard in my life
Yes
You have amazing taste.
Rolling stone magazine voted this song from a poll of pumpkins fans and determined that this is the most popular song by the band, by a significant margin!
Steve F I almost like Drown just as much
I dont know about the most popular but defenetly the best
@@nesfan8 It's the fan favorite.
I wish I could've been a teenager in the 90s
It certainly was a time, and this track was right in the pocket when it came out
I am so glad I was a teenager in the '90's. But I regret not seeing these guys live.
Thank god for my first girlfriends brother who gave me this cassette tape when it was released... it inspired me to a incredible part of my life in playing guitar and is a top album for me ever recorded. I was. Awesome
I was 18 and graduated high school in 90 and lt was magnificent
“I love my mom” written across the top of his guitar. Made me get teary eyed! Omg. Such a great song and awesome guitar talent. Billy was/is a musical genius. 💫✨
his step mother was abusing him
you can also see a broken heart near "i love my mom"

This song is called mayonaise because after billy finished the song he went into his fridge and low and behold the first thing he saw was mayonnaise. So he called the song mayonaise. Classic billy
Another amazing ballad by the Pumpkins. I love how eerily Corgan finds the camera in the crowd and just stares into it.
i think this is my favorite video on youtube.
yes, it is.
I'm getting the lyrics " no one knows where our secrets go" tattooed on my arm next week.. Billy, I can't even express how much he means to me
I love Pumpkins...this is such a great song, stirs up so much emotion and great for reflecting on life
This is what music truly is.
Its emotional, expresses ones self, and induces feelings that can only be felt when listening to this song specifically. Siamese Dream means so many things...
Billy Corgan is such a gazeful artist. The video quality just makes it so nostalgic like you’re actually present in the moment. Pure bliss 🖤
It’s worth being old now to have been young then
i wonder who billy makes eye contact with about 4 1/2 minutes in, that is definitively quite a sly smile.
also, can u imagine being there and hearing this song for the first time, live? good god...
B A Guy that is thee best part

projecticeman365 I'll cry with U!!!💔😟😢😢😪😥😭😩😫😧😖
I brought some Kleenex
me too... it's one of those songs you forget just how much you love it, until you hear it again and your eyes well up
I absolutely melt whenever I hear this song...and seeing/hearing this version is pure bliss for me: Love beyond meaning and comprehension.
probably one of my favorite versions by far, their stage presence is amazing
I was driving home to see my family and brought a friend of a friend to see his girlfriend that lived nearby (a 3 hour drive) First time spending time with him.
I let him listen to the radio, while I had my air pod in. Eventually he asked what I was listening to. I told him , smashing pumpkins, thinking he probably never heard of them. He perked up and said play mayonnaise. I gladly did. We jammed the whole way.

I will cherish this video and song forever
This one goes out to all of you 90's kids, who's with me?
when his voice cracks when he says I just want to be me, its hard to find emotion like that in any music. Just that emotion makes Billy Corgan a God to me up there with the likes of Elliott Smith, Kurt Cobain and Matthew Good. You just can't fake emotion like that.
I love your comment. 12 years ago.. hope you’re still listening 🌻
🤘🤘🔥💨
Anyone else come to the realization while watching this video that Billy Corgan looks exactly like Kirsten Dunst? Sans hair, of course
Jim Carrey at 0:36 lol.....................
David McMillan yes haha
This comment has haunted me
This video is like the best hidden secret on you tube. Billy was transcending here.
Please dont lose this recording. Ever. And thank you.

Was 13, a smidge too young for the concert. My 7th grade history teacher got to go see them in Austin. I was dishappy. BUT saw them in '96! Garbage opened. I might be old now?
When I was in high school I would've given anything to see this live... Still love them btw
There was a time...just gorgeous. Thanks a lot for sharing :-)

I have 2 questions:
Why have I never seen this video before?
and
How can anyone not like the Smashing Pumpkins?
This is one of the most touching performances EVER.
Thanks for posting.
I can answer both of those questions, 15 years later:
🤷♂️
I still have to grow on part of Siamese Dream but I really like a good half of its songs, including this one
This is the best live performance I've seen of them posted. Thanks.

This is it, this is the Pumpkins top song. 1979 is really good but this song has everything.
