    Material:
    - 3mm Single Strand Cotton String (Natural)
    *Please note: This video teaches you 3 different patterns that can be used to start your wall hanging. It focuses on the patterns not the knots. If you'd like a slower, more in-depth explanation of each of the knots used please refer to this tutorial:
    3 Must-Know Basic Macrame Knots: • 3 MUST-KNOW BASIC MACR...
    During this video I will teach you 3 way to start your macrame wall hanging.
    During sections where I repeat a process, I will show you once in real time. The rest is 4x the regular speed. If you would like to view the sped up sections in real time please click on the settings option on the bottom right of the video, click speed, and click 0.25.
    Method #1: Semi-Circles
    The first method is to create semi-circles at the top of your wall hanging.
    Using the strand of rope on the right, create a Lark’s head knot. The strand of rope between your two Lark’s head knots will create the semi-circle at the top of your work.
    I will add one more Lark’s head knot so that I have two semi-circles at the top of my work. Add as many Lark’s head knots as your desire.
    Again using Lark’s Head Knots, attach the rope that you will be using to create your wall hanging.
    You are all set to create your wall hanging!
    Next I’ve added an optional row of double half hitch knots.
    Method #2: Square Knots
    The second method is to create a section of alternating square knots.
    I like to use this as the back layer of my work. I’ll then add layers that are brought together in front of the base layer.
    Method #3: Square Knots & Lark’s Head Knots
    The third method is a combination of the first two. Start by tying 2 square knots at the top of your work. Tie another square knot to join to the sides.
    Use Lark’s Head Knots to attach the outside 4 strands to the dowel (2 strands on each side).
    Tie 2 more square knots.
    Tie a final square knot.
    Using Lark’s Head Knots attach your rope to your work on both sides. I’ve used 7, 2, 2, 7 strands here.
    Tie one row of double half hitch knots on both sides of your work and connect it with another double half hitch knot in the middle.
    I like to use this as the first layer of my work and then add top layers that are brought together in front of my work.

    Can you do another video where you show options to end the piece or continue? I'm trying to step away from tutorials and design my own but get overwhelmed. I also don't think you're going too fast. People can slow down the video and it's not too hard once you learn the basic knots.

    • @LotsofKnotsCanada
      @LotsofKnotsCanada  Před 5 lety +10

      It depends on what sort of design you are planning! More complex design with more knots will require more rope. A general guideline - cut your rope 4-8x the length of the finished wall hanging. For example, if you would like your finished wall hanging to be 1m in length cut your rope 4-8m in length and then use Lark's Head Knots to attach (one strand then becomes two strands that are 2-4m in length).

    • @LotsofKnotsCanada
      @LotsofKnotsCanada  Před 5 lety +3

      I usually have a rough idea set out when I start my wall hangings. Here is my recommendation when it comes to cutting your cords:
      A more complex design with more knots will require more rope and a simple design requires less. A general guideline that I use - cut your rope 4-8x the length of your finished product. For example, if you would like your finished product to be 1m in length, cut your rope 4-8m in length and then use Lark’s Head knots to attach (one strand then becomes two strands that are 2-4m in length).
      I always cut more rope than I think I need just to be safe! If I have leftovers I just use them for feathers, keychains, etc.
