    Howdy Jason. There's nothing like an old Roman nosed buck! That is a quality that I'm after, a warrior with some age on him. And that is even if he is on the downside of his life. Great buck you got there Jason! Thanks and later on Sir.....

    Beautiful big mature buck Jason! Man you've sure picked up some big mature MT bucks here consistently the past 5 years or so. Love the content and real quality of the hunt you show in yer videos. Saw in the comments you guessed 170's or so for the score on this buck. That is good info to share. He is def a shooter in my book! Thanks for sharing and congrats again on a big bodied Muley!

    True words spoken Jason. Gorgeous buck indeed. As Ive stated before it is more about reconnection with family in a special place doing a mutually enjoyed activity....... than it is the kill. That was a classic big Mule chase for sure. I have had the pleasure of experiencing many of those with my father and for smaller bucks in the Tobacco Root Mtns. Never forget any of it.

    Very nice buck there Jason. That is what I think of and dream of when it comes to mule deer a old deep forked 4x4. I would be extremely stoked to take such a brute as my first mule deer to my last one. Got to love the .270 Winchester that is what my youngest brother and I have used for almost 2 decades chasing whitetails in the East where we live. They say that Montana is just the land of opportunity but no big bucks, well this video shows the contrary. The open country like this would be perfect for my Dad and I, especially since he is 63 and I have had heart surgery twice when I was a kid. Great film and story as always Jason.

    "I didn't want to have to take a running shot". Reminder to anyone reading this- you never have to take a shot- you can always pass. Sometimes, that means you won't get to tag that animal, and may eat your tag entirely. That being said- given how much time I spend at the range, I probably would have pulled the trigger at 100 yards from a rest, too.
    I'm not trying to judge here, just share an observation.

  • @populustremula7496
    @populustremula7496 Před 3 lety

    I'm 67 now and I grew up hunting. I still own and shoot rifles but only at paper. Here's the thing, we are living RIGHT NOW, at the time of the largest mass extinction of species since the meteor that destroyed the dinosaurs. Humans are the cause of the extinctions. I moved to western Colorado in 1974 and I can tell you that, yes there are still elk and deer and bear and others but there aren't as many now as when I first got here and, coincidentally, there are way more humans now. It may appear that everything is fine but if you hunt you know that it's all about habitat and if you reduce the habitat and surround it with housing development thereby crowding the remaining animals into a smaller range it will appear that there are a lot of animals still. That's an illusion. There are fewer, and more diseased ones, like chronic wasting, too. Ask the biologists. Hunters will say that they provide a service because other large predators have been reduced and the herds need to be thinned by humans to fill the role formerly played by other predators. Well, just who does everyone think reduced those predators? It's us, baby. We kill lots of animals without even trying. Actually a whole planets worth. So I quit trying (hunting) back in about 1977 because the animals left alive meant, and continue to mean, more to me than ones that are dead at the hands of humans. You can try and rationalize that away however you want but the fact remains. And another thing I learned about trophy hunting: large, testosterone charged males of just about every species is absolutely the worst tasting meat there is. If you believe in eating what you kill you don't seek rutting trophy sized, old and tough and rank, game. You then have to self examine your motivation for shooting the animals that have proven to be the genetically superior of their species by merely having lived long enough to get as large and strong as they are. When I did the only conclusion I could come to was it was all about ego. Extinction of life, human ego and corporations making money is what modern hunting had become. That's when I called it quits. I urge whoever reads this to reflect deeply. I know it's hard to give up something you love so much and I'm not condemning you. I can't, because I have been you. I only ask that you go within yourself and reflect on your role in the overall scheme of things as they now are.

    I cringed when you picked-up the missfired round and held it toward your face. Missfires can go off after a delay! Clearly, you were high on taking a long-sought after buck and shaking with a shocky reaction to the missfire. Please, you had a teaching moment...treat a missfired round as if it will go off at any time. They do. Bury it deep, bullet down if you are not at range and handle it safely. Don't carry it home. It might cause you to miss a second chance to take an animal, but you will be able to hunt again. BUT, I like your videos...otherwise. Very good.

    • @Randy_Savage_ohyeah
      @Randy_Savage_ohyeah Před 3 lety +4

      What are you talking about it was a misfire, not a squib. First round didn't fire at all, technically in that situation you'd want to keep gun pointed in safe direction and wait a few seconds. Obviously not always practical in a hunting situation. I think he did what almost anyone would do....click, no bang, jack a fresh one in and try again.
