The #1 has another extra point, and that is because actually this hug wasn't scripted. Jensen himself decided to do it at the moment.
Sam's anger at the fact that Dean is sacrificing himself gives the impression he didn't want one. As soon as he said, "You love chick flicks", that was the perfect queue for Dean to hug him. I'm shocked that a hug wasn't in the script, because it felt so in character and it worked with the emotions in this scene.
The way Jared buries his face in Jensens shoulder at first makes me think he’s trying to force himself to stop smiling because he wasn’t ready for it 😂

@@emmamckechnie8125 He said it at a convention, but don't remember which one exactly. It's been so long that I watched it. It was in a response of a question about doing things that weren't scripted, and Jensen counted some.

This show has helped me out so much and I'm so connected to it that watching that scene again and the way that Sam looked so tired it just made me bawl my eyes out.

After watching that scene so many times, it looks more like Jared is in desperate need of a hug and so he hugs Jensen first. Jared's body language and the way he threw his arms around Jensen says that he desperately needed comfort from a friend. One can see the frustration in Jared's eyes during this scene, which also happened to be what Sam was feeling in this scene. Jensen slowly hugged Jared and one can see the sympathy in his eyes.

What have we learnt today folks?
That Sam, Dean and Cas almost exclusively only hug each other when one of them is back from the dead, back from the almost dead, about to die, thought the other had died and about to sacrifice oneself. Fortunately, that's like a monthly event in their lives.

Aww I love this! My favorite might actually be #7 cus it was a "just cus"-hug! And you missed Dean hugging Sam from behind in "Damaged Goods" 14x11 and the hug everyone forgets - after Sam's been attacked by the lamp cord in "Home" 1x09
I guess 1x09 doesn't get included because it's 1 second long and cause Sam was unconscious. But I loved Dean saving him and hugging him too.

Whenever they mess up or lose each other by death or other things, when they hug, it shows that they truly care for each other.
The number 2 is my favorite. That scene was pure because Jared had a rough time acting and when Dean hug Sam, it was actually Jensen hugging Jared.
The whole scene for hug number 5 I was in tears.
