"I need a bigger, heavier, more powerful bike for the TET" .... said no one. Light is right. Impressive that you tackled such gnarly sections with either rig. I have the 640 ADV and glad that it finished this challenge.
I'm on some TAT and BDR forums here in the states and I see the same stuff - guys on big bikes carrying way too much gear - it's just not fun imo!
Very true. It's a fine line between too small and too big though; and sometimes a small bike makes it all a bit too easy... saying that I will return with a 300! :) Thanks for watching!
Also popular with girl riders... :)
This is one of the best videos I've seen of crossing the Pyrenees on a bike, really enjoyed it with just enough commentary, thanks
Thank you for watching!
NACÍ VEDIO ,FROM CORAL SPRINGS FL USA THANK YOU ❤️❤️
This is great. Really helped me to see what I’d be getting into on my xt660z whenever I get the chance. Plenty of this looks tough!
Fine with a friend. Get suspension sorted before you go, pack light etc, you'll have a blast :D
Great video and fantastic trails. Thumbs up for both of you and a special mention to the 990 rider, it was surely not easy on that bike! I want to do that part!!!!
Thanks to both of you!
Thanks - Glad you enjoyed it!
Brilliant video and awesome riding skills. Am hoping to do this run next year on the Africa Twin. Looks like a lot of fun...
Put this on my "Watch later" list... there is too much great roads for me to watch now. But i will see the whole thing. Thank you for sharing this mate :-)
Great to see the Dakar Legends at last, weird to see myself on the Tube, thanks for the upload! Cheers Mr G.
Thank *you* for making it all possible; next time you're coming with us :)
@@whereisgibson It was an utter pleasure to you and Da Fosh at ours, the base camp is always open for you guys. As for next year, gone back over to the dark side and bought an SMR, so unless we can get knobby tires in 17inch, I’m gonna sit this one out....
@@mattstrawbridge8191 advrider.com/f/threads/crossing-an-smt-with-an-adventure.696823/ :)
@@whereisgibson brilliant, I was thinking more along the lines of a shagged DR 400....
That is some serious riding on a 990! Wonderful video!
Thanks, I will pass on the love to the 990 owner!
Looks like a challenging ride guys, fun fun 👍🏻👍🏻
Good effort on a pair of proper bikes
Thanks ✌️
You did some pretty hard tracks for the big bikes well done
Fantastic
Proper warriors, putting these bikes to the test. Enjoyable to watch, thank you very much for sharing this! :)
I would like to know if you would have enjoyed it more on lighter, more nimble, bikes? :)
Great suggestion! I bought a 300 EXC in January :) There is more 'type 2' fun with bigger bikes though, sometimes smaller bikes take that challenge away and frankly a 300 can go up a vertical wall if the rider is able... Thanks for watching!
Awesome amazing ☺️🔝👍🏍💨
Thank you!
Hard trail!
Love it!
Nice video, some very cool tracks 🤟
Tough stuff!Great riding!
Thanks!
Nice video, thanks. Wharfs the brand of that red fuel bottle you carry ? Can you give us the names of the TET sections please ? Thanks
That's an MSR fuel bottle, 18 years and still fine! The video should have chapters you can use in the timeline.
Have you do something on this bike, so it runs so smooth in the lower rpm, mine just need more rpm, to run powerful. My plan is to change the carburator to a Fcr 39 and put the older non Hiflo Head on.
Stock BST40 with HiFlo head. The plastics in the carb do wear out, I've completely rebuilt it a few times with new slides etc. I've considered a pumper carb, but a CV carb is much better at dealing with altitude changes, which happens daily on these trips...
Im about to buy a 2005 640 adv , also for the TET this video made me very happy with my soon soon to be purchase.
Any thing to look out for next weekend when I got to look at the bike?
Make sure it was loved by previous owner. Neglect is very expensive on these bikes!
Epic journey. Also on a 990. I love this route you guys took. Nothing more rewarding than getting a big bike through gnarly terrain.
Do you still have this route by any chance?
is a TET route and all steps are mentioned in the description box above 🙂
France, Spain, Andorra three countries.
Really enjoyed the footage...... some of that looked knarly😍 what is the protocol for the locked gates? Is the presumption that it is prohibited or that the ‘linesmen’ are on top of it and it is inappropriately locked, in which case a detour......and how do you know where to detour to, in order to pick up the trail again?? Was planning large sections this year weather permitting on a 500exc......... thanks,
If the gate is closed, we open it and close it behind us. If the gate is open we leave it open. If the gate is locked, it's time to turn around and find another way.
.....and the routes with ‘gates’ on the road that are locked but can be ridden around, more precisely? Are they just to keep other vehicles out.....?
31:58 that brake lever tho
It has been like that for years... at least 8... I actually like it! Like shortly levers :D
Excellent. Couple of questions if you have time. I’ve done a few tours on/ off road on gs800 (Patagonia)and Royal Enfield ( never again), in India. Now want to do the tet. Bike choice?. The big bike looked a handful?. I’ve seen a 640 adventure on eBay as well as ktm exc 450 or 500. Also interested in husky 701. I’m 6’7” so seat height is not a problem, price is a factor too. Would you go on the 640 again or is it too heavy?. Cheers James.
640 was fine, the 990 had a bit too much power. My 640 had a rebuilt rear shock but was running too thin fork oil so it wasn't as smooth to ride as it should have been. Fixed now and I'll be taking it on more. 640 is the perfect TET bike!
whereisgibson ha ha, went for the 500 exc 2014 as one came up at a reasonable price. It’s mental but taming it and turning it more trails oriented. Might get to ride it one day?.
Wowwww👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👊🏻✊🏻👍🏻😉
Thanks, the real hard work was done by the linesmen!
Do you mind me asking where did you start and finish ? Great video.
South France, with very hospitable and kind friends.
Gotta bump start in a higher gear - should be able to do it with a guy pushing or on a slight downhill.
Yes I think we ran out of downhill just before I ran out of the will to live :D Thanks for watching!
Nice vid. May I ask you, which app do you used for navigation follow the track?
I use ViewRanger on Android, and Openfietsmaps on a Garmin Montana 610. Both failed at various points of the trip, so I recommend everyone to have two different devices for navigation. Thanks for watching!
@@whereisgibson ah ok. I have only an android cellphone for my KTM 625, and on my big bike a garmin navigator plus cellphone. Can you say where and why they fail? Would be nice.
@@DieTabbi they just randomly fail. The Garmin might switch off or freeze, or the phone will refuse to charge due to being wet, or so on.
Mate there is some very gnarly narrow tracks, is that really the TET track?
Everything is TET, other than 15:02, which was just over from a blocked-off section.
Nice escenary and great trail. Where is it?
This is the TET in Spain and Andorra, should be some links to locations in the description.
Awesome. Only half way through watching.... but where is 14:18?
Gorges de Galamus
There should be a timestamp index in the description for the rest :)
@@whereisgibson Tar... I see that now.
where was the section near the end in the tunnel ?
That's France, should be in the chapters of the timeline
Great takes, but it would be very nice to have more info on the area, the portion that you are riding, how your bikes take it, your tires, etc. If not, the video tends to become a little boring. I think the xchange of info is the most enriching thing with the TET.
Ask away :) Tyres were MT21, dead after 2000km. Bikes felt tired!
Don’t cross the white line. A very dangerous habit - keep on your own side of the road.
