I have good friends who compete in the build and show side of Summernats, and they're mostly good people. Just a shame it drags in so many people whose main objective in attending appears to be getting a skin full and inciting trouble as part of a rabid mob.

I've wanted to go to summernats for 25 of my 33 years on this planet but it's flogs like these, that can't follow basic instructions from security and make shit get to points like this that remind me it's just not worth it. I can enjoy and respect the craftsmanship, the vehicle control and sounds from the comfort of my lounge room.
I went with my son (14) for the first three days. I took him home by 2pm everyday. He saw craftsmanship, engineering and ingenuity. We spent hours watching the drift cars and the pit crews. We went slowly through the show and shine pavillion looking at incredible modern day art. We watched the burnouts at the burn out pad with 1000hp plus monsters on song. We then went home before the alcohol kicked in. I came back solo to film the full experience... and get some video content (I want to quit my day job). Thursday and Friday there was minimum "dero". Same thing every year, too many idiots out cooking in the sun, way too much piss, cheapest seccies they can afford, and a million people with phones trying to record shitty social media content and one up each other.
@@AussieMotorsI appreciate you being able to do that for your son and coming back when you should have just stayed home but unfortunately I just don't have those opportunities. I'm from another state, I have many issues with my body and am epileptic. I stand behind what I said though, basic instructions not being followed leads to push back leads to mobs. I have never defended a security guard that has taken things too far but the easy way to not have that happen is to do what you are told in first place.

Lets look at the problem in simple terms. An event like this needs insurance. Every sports or show event does, that's life. If the insurance is to much, events like this will be shut down, no one can afford to run them. Now a insurance agent will look at this, and see a accident just waiting to happen, and either deny insurance or charge a lot more. No more events. Its that simple.

If Summernats is to continue and succeed, it needs to be family friendly. Unfortunately I think that might mean an alcohol free event as there is always a minority that ruins things for everyone else. The punters aren't the only ones to blame. Organizers need to cater to their entrants and provide more SAFE areas for skids - that's why many entrants are there. Let's have a serious discussion about multiple skid rows so this behaviour is controlled and safe - as it needs to be. If these and many other issues aren't addressed then insurance companies will refuse to underwrite the event - no more Summernats. That would be a shame.

I agree 💯 with nearly 3000 entrants I think it's safe to say one skid row isn't enough. IV come to the conclusion that the event planners and police work in harmony to keep this wonderful lil scheme going. I only say this as many of the other natz are exactly the same (Gazza natz, redcenter natz, etc) all ways there are "legal" issues with the cruise/street parade, Summernats by far takes the cake tho. Getting serious tho what is with the entrants doing skids in the cruise/parade? Like there are places like skid row or even the burnout pad... I think this is where the true issue lays. My understanding is some of the many just don't have self control but I still don't think they deserve hefty fines and licence penalties that's just worng. That's like getting fined on a dragstrip or a speedway track. Sadly I don't see Summernats and/or other lasting much longer tbh, that won't stop Aussies from skidin tho 💯

Car Festival where entrants sign up to a code of conduct. Security hired by festival choose to eject entrant. Police called onto festival grounds by security to support ejection. Once outside the gate the vehicle is subject to normal road rules where loss of traction is not accepted.

Yes and heavily corrupt even by the worst western standards. Read the book Snouts In The Trough by Andrew Fraser for an insight into Aus police. Everything in that book (70s-00s) goes on to this day. They've only gotten better at hiding it from the public and throwing some unliked cops under the bus to give the impression that they're hard on corruption.

Absolute criminal scum of the earth. There's some that don't directly partake in corruption, but must turn a blind eye to it. This to me is just as bad. They go after small, easy targets, paid off by crime bosses, snitches, thieves, politicians and literally control much of the east coast Aus meth trade. The se Aus (Victoria police) used to supply most of the precursors and equipment to manufacture amphetamine before it was outsourced overseas for higher profits, this is all fact and the book wouldn't be banned in some states if it was overstated or fictional in any way. They'd keep pill presses running at MDMA pressing facilities to fill their pockets after they had hit the minimum amounts needed to sentence their target (who was setup by a snitch or pissed off a cop etc), take their nice guns and replaced with old .22 rifles from early 1900s, take all cash and valuables. Heck they've almost shutdown entire police stations when a few names get out about off duty cops selling/giving drugs at clubs where they hang with elites and influencers. The cops all leave before the enquiry and they're on skeleton crew from brining other cops from anywhere possible to not have that media attention (that's paid to be minimal either way). All drugs in this and other situations is stolen from dealers by cops on duty or if they're really lazy, they just take it from the "locked" contraband storage units in all police stations. The ceiling once fell in at a Melb police station, because so many heavy firearms, ammo and kgs of drugs stashed up there eventually broke through. You can't make this stuff up 😂
There's a reason most people hate cops and love firefighters. Firefighters risk their lives to help you in any situation and aren't there to screw you over. Cops sometimes risk their lives to help others and are rarely trying to truly help. Often looking for something to sting you with when you're a victim of a serious crime, because they hate doing actual work eg long cases that aren't open and shit like drugs such as rape, serious assault, attempted murder, child abuse etc when there's such easy rank climbing and money to be made by handing out fines for non issue driving and picking off low to middle of the chain substance users and suppliers of things the police themselves profit from. Help spread and absolutely love using as much as myself and most Aussies who know recreational drugs are safer than booze, more fun and often benefit mental health along with physical health.
Just say no to draconian laws and just say KNOW to drugs and fair treatment to all. Real crimes are left with little to no resources while these scumbags ask for pay rises and better working conditions when they already retire owning chain restaurants, housing portfolios, engineering and construction businesses their police wages could never afford or jobs in sectors ran by the "criminals" they were paid by and looked after their entire careers. FTP. There's people in jail in Australia for decades for things like personal use psychedelics including mushrooms as low as 25g for 20+yrs when you need 250g meth, coke, H to get max 10yrs. You can't get a decade easily for many things, not even kiddy fiddling and those scumbags get full protection. I've been witnessing open police corruption from age 12 that I thought was just the tiny town I was in. I think the regulations have gone a bit overboard. I get there are some crazy nutters out there but they need to focus on the environment, not the drivers. Police just seem to be making some quick bucks. It is a car event, how hard is it to Make a safe environment for drivers, like skid row but we all know how overly managed that is now.
