- In 1998, Blue Peter and Regency Rail Cruises ran a special train from Edinburgh Waverley to London Kings cross down the East Coast Main Line to celebrate 40 years of the famous children's television program. Naturally, the tour used the only surviving A2 Pacific, 60532 "Blue Peter", at a distance of 393 miles, this was one of the loco's most taxing main line runs during the preservation era.
So here is the episode of Blue Peter as presenters Richard Bacon, Stuart Miles, Konnie Huq and Katy Hill take to the rails, as opposed to being sat in the studio in West London! - Zábava
Blue Peter is back in steam now, did successful test runs at Crewe yesterday and it is likely she will do another private charter with the Blue Peter cast and the cbbc crew.
Hopefully lovely blue peter will be steaming again 😊
She already is, she did test runs at Crewe yesterday!
@transportguy1k635 okay that's brilliant news ,must go see lovely blue peter steam train one day 💙
I was at the renaming of the Blue peter along with 60,000 others..was 8 yrs old and my grandad worked at Doncaster plant at the time...Some great photos out there on google.
0:26 today blue Peter has returned and she’s doing a mainline test run this month of 2024
Would be fantastic if something like this was planned to take place again.
I think it'd be likely if Blue Peter's restoration ended quickly.
It’s happening
I remembered this at the age of 4 or 5, I'm 24 and graduating Uni now XD, I've even got a Bachmann Blue Peter in case (with smokebox bands hand customised silver by yours truly), just last year at our annual Open Day I made a "Blue Peter" headboard similar to the one seen on 60532 here, didn't half get the kids attention and mums and dads would point it out to them... I've even recently painted a BR Intercity MK1 RBR in Regency Rail Cruises Oxford (Blue) and Cream.
That fuckig lady at the beginning said steam trains are slow THEY CAN GO 100 MPH DAMN IT
I'm A Huge Blue Peter Fan. Thanks Mate. X
60532's class is known as one of he most powerful Pacifics in the United Kingdom.. I'm quite enthusiastic for his return to steam!
Jeez, I tried looking for this recently and could not find it. Got the link from my bro's partner Andrea. My bro is the kid with the long hair in the Barbershop Quartet. :)
Fab to see The Likely Lads! 💈 🎶 x
Oh my god! Have you any idea how long I've been trying to find this? 16 Years! I use to have this on a recorded tape but lost it and now after so many years I can see it again,
Alexander Jarrett Me too, I'm so glad he uploaded it :)
0:33 I’m now hoping that she doesn’t do anymore wheel-slipping incidents like she did 30 years ago at Durham
Whats the states on blue peter at present? Are there any plans to repair the damage and return her(him) to service?
It looks unlikely she shall return to steam anytime soon, as NELPG have terminated the contract with her being out of service since 2003,and being privately owned the Drury family cannot get any funding, so 60532 won't be back for a while. Cameron
Ive heard about the conrtact prob but she is restord, right.
madrabidfireman She is based at Barrow Hill and has been repainted into Apple Green, but the middle cylinder is very worn and various other jobs need to be done before she returns to service.
She has been bought by Jeremy Hosking and is undergoing overhaul with a return to the mainline next year.
falcons1988 Awesome.
Shame she's laid up at Barrow Hill, but when the owners won't fork out that's it, a static exhibit for now. How many Pacifics could the NRM rescue, or be willing to? And would the public fork out for another old girl? I still cringe at the sight of 60532 skidding on Durham Viaduct, the conn rods buckling. That must've been a lot of insurance to fork out for, even if she did run like a two-year old (that's a racehorse to the uninitiated) afterwards.
