  • @ryanheldoorn
    @ryanheldoorn Před 3 lety +1

    Heaviest stuff does not go in the bottom champ. This is why all proper hiking packs have sleeping bag compartments in the bottom. Heaviest stuff at the top so the loads are distributed down throughout shoulders, torso and hips (not just hips).

  • @Michael-dx8qz
    @Michael-dx8qz Před 2 lety

  • @mikni4069
    @mikni4069 Před 3 lety

    I never thought I would hear lightweight and camera bag in one sentence. There are others that accommodate more none camera gear (F-Stop, Shimoda, Atlas, Wandrd) but they are not exactly lightweight, in fact they are around twice the weight or more for a similar seize putting them in the same weight class in some cases more the an 60-80l expedition pack! But costing almost double of what that expedition back cost and they won’t pack flat like this… So overall this look like a potential purchase, I had almost given up on camera bags.
    Doesn’t hurt I enthusiastic about coffee as well, nice Linea Mini you got there.

    6:21 - sorry, but You are wrong. Intuition may suggest so, but we should carry the heaviest things at the top of the bag and the lightest things at the bottom - try it, you will feel that the backpack weighs much less on your shoulders. You're welcome. ;)

    You had my at "I HAVE A CONFESSION TO MAKE". Yesyesyesyesyes. Oh you ... Mr. Strohl.
    With a soon to be revealed charity venture in mind I just shot my first ever hiking-VLOG in "Les Vosges, France" for which I in fact brought a 2kg tripod and a fluid head all the way from Germany. So in the middle of the french wild just off of La Petit-Pierre I stood infront of my heavy-as camera set-up in my shorts, All-blacks jersey (gotta exhibit true love), and lone-peak runners and thought "I was just about to order a 600USD+ Dollar Dyneema Fiber tent. WHAT THE HACK WAS I THINKING?"
    So I send back tripod, fluid-head and all, fell in love with PD after two seconds of research (gosh) and THEN lost all hope in backpacks, as also the ultralight ones go like "meh, me don't like cameras".
    Then I found that experienced bloke that seems to share my sort-a-beard and my sort-a-humor - AND HE JUST MADE MY DREAM BAG?
    Respect to you ... and the van-door-reveal.
    Tito

    The compromise of course is to use a small ICU unit in an fstop or other back that opens up fully on the rear. Then you have pretty much the same solution. Saying that, this pack might be much lighter? Also this beautiful pack has pouches everywhere and the large one on the back is amazing! Will this ever be available in New Zealand?

    I made a comment wayyyyy back when this was first announced, asking about leashes and I finally received my backpack today. It does not appear to have any leashes to allow you to attach your camera for safety attachment points around your shoulders? I have them macgyvered on previous ultralight backpacks and am disappointed they aren't on this backpack. I could have bought the pouches to add to my previous setup and been good to go. :-(

    Eh you can really attach dedicated single camera pouches and "modify" any backpacking pack tbh. Daisy chains are not uncommon on hip belts and you can put it across your shoulder straps too. All depends on what camera you're taking of course. Mindshift rotation backpacks are pretty cool, they have a rotating dedicated camera bag hip belt that goes thru the bottom of the backpack. Some limitations on that and it's clunkyish but a better idea of what you're trying to get at.

    • @greyspaniard
      @greyspaniard Před 3 lety

      The Rotation 180 50+ (50L) costs $499. This pack can do 45L+ with ICU and hip couch comes out to $320. It’s a reasonable proposition plus it favors the hiking aspect while allowing affordances for camera carry and access. I own a 22L Rotation 180. This bag has got really interested, I’m mostly looking to day hike or shorter hikes and 45L might be too big for my needs (this one is ultra light though). You are correct though, just buying this pouch alone and getting 30-34L day hike bag with daisy chains on the hip belt will nail 90% of what this bag is aiming for. The small rear access camera access is a nice touch though

    • @WoolyColdie
      @WoolyColdie Před 3 lety

      @@greyspaniard Yeah totally, you can find those rotation bags on ebay alot cheaper nowadays, it's been out for years. The biggest one def looks chunky and heavy, never liked the look of those but the smaller models are good for day hikes. This bag still looks cool though don't get me wrong, i'm in that ultralight crowd and can see me using it but not gonna spend another $300 on a pack when i can do just 90% of that on my current bag like you said lol.

    Does anyone know the dimensions of this pack when empty vs full? Online I see it says it’s 30” tall. Is it always that big or what size can it shrink to?

  • @utubewatcher486
    @utubewatcher486 Před 3 lety

    You forgot about sweat. Sweat will infiltrate that camera area and ruin all the camera gear. Besides what do you do in a deluge? Rainwater will run down your back and enter the camera area- not even a rain cover can stop that. There shouldn't be zippers or a hatch right there- maybe put the camera door on the other side where it at least won't let sweat inside.

    Hi Alex, I just found you on CZcams, because of the review of the new bag. I am going on an expedition to kirgistan to summit an over 7000m high peak and your backpack would be perfect, because I am planning on shooting a documentary, about that expedition.
    Unfortunately it is out of stock and it won’t be here in time if I wanted to buy it, so I wanted to ask you if it is possible to get my hands on one in advance. It would be absolutely perfect + I could prove that it works in the toughest conditions.
