      No-one's batteries have rare earths in them, except for one manufacturer 15 years ago that put some ytterbium in their LFP cells. So the battery part of that is a pointless claim (except of course that clueless articles claim they do and countering nonsense has become important). No rare earths in the motors presumably means they are using electromagnets throughout, not permanent magnets (as they almost all have neodymium in). I think that's a trend in motor design. PM motors are very good as you get rotor energised without using any energy nor brushes but they do have coasting losses. Being able to turn the rotor off fixes that. Complicated tradeoffs in which is most efficient overall. For powertools PM defo wins. For cars I think it depends on the details.

    I loved my old Scenic RX4, it was perfect as an all-rounder for my job in the countryside. I'm looking for an EV now, and hope that Renault will release a Scenic E-Tech with dual motors, increased ride height and possibly a rugged-ish exterior: at this point the only options seem to be the Solterra/bZ4x (too inefficient) and the future EX30 Cross Country (too small).

Arrogant, pricey design houses that break and cost the earth, this however I think it could break the trend coming straightout of France or most likely the automotive Samsung factory in Asia. If I had some spawn of my own and needed to haul my ungrateful brats around with me then this would be perfect. It's 100% for families and not for the couple that enjoy a childless lifestyle. If I had a family I might have considered one had it been available... but I don't and it wasn't so that's that. Ok, they are on to make the wheel alloy more streamlined, that's also why the handles have been made flush, so to reduce drag increasing the mileage. If you want to enjoy the whole alloy design, then you remove them. Simplez-tch.

    I like the way it looks, though as an ex scenic mk2 owner I do wish they were a bit more adventurous. I guess there’s no need to as the packaging looks great. I’m a big fan of what they’re doing though the pricing is a bit too high. Therefore I’ll be hang around the second hand market in 5+ years waiting for the residuals to drop like a stone.

    Well.. we own the second Grand Scenic, and we use it daily for school runs and city driving. It is a very reliable car having over 300k km on an 1.5dci. But looking at today's range of Renault cars, I cant choose another spacious, light weight, easy to use, flexible seats, confortable Renault.
    The large head room, large windows, enormous cargo space, confortable and adjustable seats (specially in the back) are all part of the recipe we love the Scenic.
    We also own a Nissan X-trail and I can confirm that the SUV is far less spacious and confortable.
    And note that space does not have to come from a large sized car, the mid-size Megane chassie was enough for a family of 4.
    We traveled all Europe with the Scenic, but today I have no option to replace it, unfortunatly. 😢

    Some great thought put into it alright. Yhat grill needs to go do its just tertible snd looks like its csrrying net on the front and looks like an afterthought.
    The magic roof do is brilliant and the flip around cup holders with the phone holders too is brilliant.

    Any chance that interior will actually make it to the UK? If it’s anything like the Megane the chances are the right-hand drive model will only get the entry level trim on the top spec. Really spoils an otherwise excellent car.

    I like the new "row of medium sized physical buttons in one place to control everything else" trope automakers are doing now. It may not be artistically daring but its functional and simple enough to fit with any dash design. Once you learn the buttons after driving for a week its fast and easy to use without looking.

    I used to own a Renault Scenic .It was comfortable to drive and fairly solidly built but everything electric on that vehicle would fail at some point. The electric windows would each fail once a year and each cost a fortune to fix - in the end I learnt to replace the parts myself. The thought of buying a EV from Renault gives me the shivers.

    I wish it was more Scenic-esque... If they managed to fit the engine in the front, and keep the hood short, I believe they could have done that once again. But then again, it makes sense if it's possible to store even more stuff in the front compared to the combustion engine car, and if it has to take up space, it should be in the front, for safety reasons...

    I like Renault but there are some big questions not addressed here:
    1. UK specs & pricing, plus the big ‘elephant’ projected depreciation ?
    2. Heat pump as standard on UK versions (big mistake missing it off Meganes - had to add Iconic)?
    3. Infotainment screen - will it be scaled down in UK (like Meganes)?

    • @ianroe6678
      @ianroe6678 Před 9 měsíci

      Not convinced the heat pump is as big an issue as you think. Renault say it adds ‘upto 9% range below 11c’. So an extra 20 miles in the coldest months, only really a benefit on a journey over 220 miles or so.

    price range?

  • @zorqis
    @zorqis Před 8 měsíci

    Perfect size, practicality, interior, exterior look. The only question marks are price and depreciation. Will it compete favorably with Polestar 4, Niro EV, Audi Q4, etc., for what is expected to be in similar price range (or slightly less, but likely with steeper depreciation).

    Love the back seat arm rest.. Could you bring along a medium sized stuffed dog for your reviews as well. We will need a car that takes a 6ft 5 wee one and a medium sized barking machine. So one is covered very well by the Jack back seat test but reviews tend to not show what impact the boot has on a dog.
