why do I find her voice so peaceful? Like i'm watching this to be soothed.
Allison O'Shea asmr!
Luna Lovegood I just added this to my unintentional ASMR playlist
This is so beautiful. I wish I could sew and go work with her. She's such a nice and sweet lady.
I know this is old but the Opera House is always looking for volunteers and people to work in their costume department (at least when i had looked this past year)
lovely to watch :D she's really sympathetic, like an aunt who's got that cool job at the ballet :3
Thanks very much. Glad you enjoy our films!
Thank your for the wonderful videos on CZcams!
Royal Opera House Yes thank you for your wonderful videos on You Tube. You have no idea how much they are appreciated.
Stunning, as usual. The Royal Ballet has the best costumes in the world, hands down.
It's so nice to see these gorgeous costumes up close for once
Unintentional ASMR anyone?
Yup
Yass!
Having personally seen NYCB tutus up close and on stage I would have to disagree and say they are stunning. There are different styles of tutus and they are all equally beautiful.
+J Webb I'm interested to know, with which comment are you disagreeing? I agree about the NYCB costumes being stunning (as is true, to varying degrees, of really well designed and made ballet costumes in numerous companies, though NYCB, with the heritage it has, is one of the greatest in that department).
This is lovely! And I’m not sure if this was pointed out, but the costumes were designed by Barbara Kiska in 1967. A Russian immigrant who set up shop in the USA. She one anAcademy award for her designs but in my mind she’s best known for her association with New York City, Balet and her fellow Russian George Balanchine. One of her lasting influences was designing the “Powderpuff tutu “
love the workmanship
I saw the live stream of Royal Ballet's Jewels and the costumes looked stunning on stage. It was a wonderful production.
Just stunning. All of these costumes really are works of art :). Everything about Jewels is just gorgeous in every sense of the word :)
I remember quite a few years ago, PBS broadcast the Paris Opera Ballet dancing JEWELS. Of course, their dancers are some of the greatest, but I was a bit disturbed by the costumes, which, I believe, had been newly designed by maybe Christian LaCroix. The ones for RUBIES, in particular, struck me as so wrong. The skirts were kind of frou-frou-fluffy looking, as if the theme were an old fashioned, doily-ish Valentine; clearly so wrong for the music and dynamic of RUBIES.
Same. I have the DVD of that performance and the Rubies costume is just a no-no. I especially hated the pink colour peeking out from under the skirts. I love that there's gold under the Royal Ballet costumes.
Interesting. I would have thought in a Ballet like Jewels, the Balanchine Trust would have had some control over whether a company could recostume. This would be like doing Western Symphony in evening gowns and tuxedos
@@minissa2009 I agree. I thought that the costumes were proscribed for each ballet to be the same, no matter what company dances it.
Why is the thumbnail picture of the Lilac Fairy from Sleeping Beauty?
These is another video where Mel in detail explains the Lilac Fairy costume. They may have messed up the thumbnails a bit . But anyways here is the video. I loved watching it. czcams.com/video/o7MBpEdPZAQ/video.html
Wonderful. Thank you for showing us this.!
so beautiful. you guys always make the best videos and this one is one of my favorites.
So interesting!!!! beautiful costumes!
I wish the Royal had gone their own way with the Diamonds tutus. The Bolshoi did and the Paris Opera Ballet also did, to great success. Their costumes for Diamonds are absolutely ravishing. Barbara Karinska may have been a great ballet costume designer but the execution of her Diamonds tutus is living proof that no one in the NYCB costume shop ever learned how to cut a tutu.
It looks fine to me - more demure and regal than the traditional tutu.
Gorgeous! I hope one day I could wear something as beautiful as those
Note this was recorded 12 years ago but suitably the royal ballet costume staff were still talking imperial measurements. keeping a tradition live.
GREAT POST ROH TEAM!!!
i take ballet when i get older i will wear a costume like that
Who here is a ballet dancer? MEEE

striking
They wouldnt need to pay me to Work there.
I've always wondered, what do they do for all the pale 'nude' tones that are supposed to blend into the skin for dancers of color?
Kristen is a pretty lady, love the accent!
These costumes are based on the New York City Ballet originals made by Karinksa, right? (See the book COSTUMES BY KARINKSA by Toni Bentley, I'm sure these are the origs.)
I thought so too!
Mmmm more please.
I thought the diamond variation had a rigid tutu.
NYCB and Paris do. Don't know why ROH doesn't.
