I tend to disagree to a degree. Being passive aggressive is a manifestation of a certain trigger, a form of mood. I am a strong four and have episodes of extreme passive aggression. I have a strong need for peace and justice and that’s my line to T1, an important consideration when typing. It’s important to look at the underlying defense mechanisms. Type 9 is narcotisation whilst Type 4 is introjection which I find Phoebe does a lot of, everything seems to be as a result of her actions (good and bad). What’s CRUCIAL though is looking at the subtypes even more so than the wings as a self preservation Type 4 presents very different to One to one T4 and social 4. Monica is the GOAT. Even though she's super strict, she's the one who cares the most about others and she's the glue that makes the group stay connected (she's let everyone live in her appartment and she's the one feeding them all the time while others don't even thank her, I hated everyone for being so mean at Monica in the first Thanksgiving episode). Man, I feel so bad for Monica because she always does her best. My favorite character by far

He doesn't like it when others don't get along, he can't make decisions so he's always asking others to help him, he is super distracted, procrastinates, he has a lot he should be doing but doesn't really ever do the one thing he needs to be doing (signing checks episode lol), doesn't show anger much but when he does it's pretty big. And the way he tries to earn that love his by being the best boss ever, the funny guy, and a good friend (even though he doesn’t succeed at any of those 3.)
I am surprised that no one has said it but I am almost sure that Chandler is a 7. The 7 are also characterized by their fear of commitment, because they don't like to depend on others because they feel tied. He's a joke teller and avoids pain, all 7 find it difficult to understand the pain of others and one of his iconic phrases is "I'm not good at the advice can i interest you in a sarcastic comment?", Also he in a chapter says he find it hard to cry. Everything points to it being a 7. On the other hand Joey, in my opinion he is the most loyal, he was the one who supported Rachel the most, when Phoebe wanted meat he gave up his so that Phoebe could eat. He was not funny because he wanted to but because he was silly, and he always worried about the future or changes. Like when he turned 30, every time Chandler moved, etc.
I actually think Monica could also be a 2w1 because of her desire to be liked and she loves to host people/take care of them. To me it seems her motivation to be liked and desire to please people ( which she says herself multiple times) could still show as her wanting to be perfect because that’s what she thinks will gain the approval/love of others. Just my opinion, but I of course see how she types as a 1.

I said the same thing cause even though she’s a perfectionist I think her motivation is to be liked/gain love of others. I think she is a perfectionist because she thinks if she’s perfect people will love her.
As a 1w2 with a 2w3 mother, Monica is definitely a 1. 2’s would not tell other people what to do in the way Monica does. 2’s are not controlling about little things, because again their main thing is they want to be needed. 1’s want to be doing the “right” thing. Monica has a harsh inner critic that she verbalizes. Her criticism towards herself doesn’t have to do about others not liking her, but about herself not liking her, if that makes sense?
Monica staying up all night so the neighbors would like her could definitely be with the motivation to do the “right” thing. Or it could be just that 2 wing. I find even my very “2 wing” actions are still motivated by doing the “most right” thing. The only difference is I tend to have less boundaries with my 2 wing

Loved this analysis! I think it's pretty accurate. I will say Ross has a 4ish and 6ish streak about him, so I always had a hard time typing him but I can understand why you typed him as a 5. Rachel is hard to type too, but the 3 w 4 makes sense and she's probably also the sx subtype of 3 which is more moody and expressive and places an emphasis on being super attractive - at least more so than the other subtypes of 3.
I love friends! It is interesting how everyone types people and why. I think Ross is a nine..he actually avoids so much stuff in his life and reminds me so much of my type 9 husband. I believe pheobe is a 4w5 the bohemian because she doesn't view the world they way most people does, she is poetic , very aloof, unapologetic about who she is,and dramatic about a lot of things..as a four myself I relate to her character. I believe Rachel is a 6w7 because she is always worried about everything falling apart, loyal to her friends, and doesn't want to miss out on anything. I think Chandler is a 5 because his knowledge and life is based on what he knows. He feels incapable with a lot of things you can't learn in a book, he is intelligent. I actually think Monica is a 2w1 because she is always...alays trying to help everyone to distract herself from what she is going through. Like when she helped chandler lose weight..always has everyone over and cooks. Though sometimes I view her as a type three because she always wants to be the best. Extremely competitive. Always wants to be successful. She also is very insecure about her looks. As a 4w3 I can also struggle with these things. I hope you don't think I am trying to be a know it all. Just debating and find the topic interesting.

There's a lot of different ways you could analyze the enneagrams of these characters so it's fun and interesting to hear other people's insights and perspectives! I can’t even figure out my own type and am not very knowledgeable about enneagram, but for fun my own guesses would be that Monica is 1 or maybe 1w2, Ross is 6w5 or 9, Rachel is maybe 3w4 or 6w7, Chandler is probably a 6, but I could also see him as 9 maybe, I feel like Pheobe might be 9w8 and lastly Joey is definitely a 7!
no no no!! I've spent a huge amount of my life rewatching this show because it brings me back home so much. Monica- really though she was a 3! I can see the one. good call! Ross- one, so particular about how things need to be. Doesn't understand why can't people just go BY THE BOOK of the history about the world! Rachel- Huge 6! ran out on her wedding TO A DOCTOR. A 3 would never! She is who her family taught her to be and came crawling to there childhood friend on the day she ran out on her wedding. She changes her mind ALL the time. Career driven because she's a hard worker, much like a 6! Chandler- 5w6! Cannot take stupidity but has his 6 wing to help him have the only other F.R.I.E.N.D.S he has. Doesn't know how to act in public or has any social skills and cannot keep a relationship because of this. Phoebe- TOTAL 4!! She is who she is regardless of who she is around. She tried being someone else when she met mikes parents and completely failed and to surprised to everyone she talked about growing up in the streets and was eventually herself because she cannot be otherwise. Joe- obviously correctly 7.
Also, on the scene you included when ross is arguing with Phoebe you see how much Phoebe actually likes to argue. Joe and ross (or chandler?) were talking on halloween day who's more bad ass Phoebe or Monica because Phoebe is not scare to take someone down for the right reasons. She argues with anyone and on the day she met Dave she literary stopped her show to shut them up. She a fight for the right cause hippie.

I was playing along and guessing each character before you said it, and I got them all right except for Ross. y first hunch was that Ross is either a 9 or a 2. As much as he is "specialized" in his field of expertise, he's also really accommodating and has a "softer" side that I recognize in 2 men. I could also see an argument being made for Phoebe being a 7.
I would’ve though Monica would be an 8. I’ve been told I’m a total Monica and a very obvious 8 as well. All of the characteristics you describe were written in a packet I have printed with type 8 results.

I'll say it again. You are more than one enneagram type or one mbti type or your astrology sun sign!!!! There are tri-types in enneagram, cognitive transition into 4 distinct minds/sides of your personality in mbti and a whole birth chart for your astrology report for every planetary & house position etc. For example, stop arguing about whether Phoebe is a 4 or 9, she is actually both. She is a 9 in the gut centre, a 4 in the heart centre and a 7 in the head centre. I think the order is 794, she wants to explore but she wants to bring everyone together and likes to see herself as unique and exceptional almost to the point of pretentiousness. 9w8 Exemplified by her mediator, peace-loving, passive aggressive ways. We know she has an 8 wing because she has shared a lot of stories about her more violent responses in times of danger and will defend people and use physical methods when necessary, but she doesn't want to hurt things unnecessarily. Definitely 9 with 8. As a 4w5, and not as healthy about her feelings as you can see in her relationship with her sister who she does want a relationship with but also resents because they are so different. She does have a pretentious identity issue. Also with not wanting to shop for mass produced stuff or eat meat but then doing it in secret in order to protect this image of herself, she lives in her head too like a 5 and pursues deep knowledge in whatever weird stuff she's into(but this pursuit of knowledge won't last long because it's just her wing and she has many interests as a cerebral enneagram 7. You can rule out 3 because she is not as ambitious for the sake of being seen as competent like a 3. She cares more about fairness and self expression than competence as you can see in her music career. She won't actually try to be a better musician and excel like a 3 but gets upset when someone else who does the hard work gets paid and gets recognition. That's an unhealthy 4. 7w8 When she is competitive it's mostly to have fun and explore something new and different. Just like joey she is uncommitted, but it shows up in her career interests, through the course of the show she juggles so many odd jobs as well as joey juggles relationships, she has way more short lived relationships more than most of the others except Joey. This is also why her and joey are so close and attracted to each other but won't go there, plus they have different values but they get each other. Phebee does not run or hid or avoid conflict I think she wants peace in general as in world peace but I see her as a 4. She has her own idenitity and is the most unwavering about standing up for what she believes in Chandler on the other hand avoids conflict he litterally recants and leaves a room whenever he makes even slight mistakes you show the clip of oh we are over we had a fight. He was not committing to girls however Ross decided he liked Carol stuck to her like glue got stuck on Rachel even when he had sex within 24 hours of what he interpreted as a break he stayed both stuck on her and loyal to his mistake of we were on a break. He is loyal to palentalagy he cannot ever admit he is wrong about anything. I don't think he likes learning I think he is educated but we don't see him doing research. I see Rachel as a 3 but I don't see wing 4 more like w2 she is image focused especially at the beginning but she is ambitious. She is not good at working at first but she is ambitious in her plans to work. But she also can be nice to a fault. Monica serves out of a need for perfection and self gratification and self promotion but Rachel gives free coffee when she shouldn't and is trying to help wants to help wants to give back it's not her main thing but is so grateful.

I agree on Joey, Rachel and Phoebe (though I can see how people get 4-she’s a classic 947). I think Monica is a 2w1-she is OBSESSED with being a hostess and literally decided to become a chef because she thought it would make people like her-and I would definitely, DEFINITELY switch Ross and Chandler. Ross clings to the women he’s with and the ideal of marriage, while Chandler is content to just make his jokes and is much more avoidant of real conflict than Ross. Chandler is always correcting ideological inconsistencies for the sake of it, while Ross finds security in science and facts.

I find even my very “2 wing” actions are still motivated by doing the “most right” thing. The only difference is I tend to have less boundaries with my 2 wing

Loved this analysis! I think it's pretty accurate. I will say Ross has a 4ish and 6ish streak about him, so I always had a hard time typing him but I can understand why you typed him as a 5. Rachel is hard to type too, but the 3 w 4 makes sense and she's probably also the sx subtype of 3 which is more moody and expressive and places an emphasis on being super attractive - at least more so than the other subtypes of 3.
I love friends! It is interesting how everyone types people and why. I think Ross is a nine..he actually avoids so much stuff in his life and reminds me so much of my type 9 husband. I believe pheobe is a 4w5 the bohemian because she doesn't view the world they way most people does, she is poetic , very aloof, unapologetic about who she is,and dramatic about a lot of things..as a four myself I relate to her character. I believe Rachel is a 6w7 because she is always worried about everything falling apart, loyal to her friends, and doesn't want to miss out on anything. I think Chandler is a 5 because his knowledge and life is based on what he knows. He feels incapable with a lot of things you can't learn in a book, he is intelligent. I actually think Monica is a 2w1 because she is always...alays trying to help everyone to distract herself from what she is going through. Like when she helped chandler lose weight..always has everyone over and cooks. Though sometimes I view her as a type three because she always wants to be the best. Extremely competitive. Always wants to be successful. She also is very insecure about her looks. As a 4w3 I can also struggle with these things. I hope you don't think I am trying to be a know it all. Just debating and find the topic interesting.
I don't think you're trying to be a know it all! I actually see where you're coming from in all of your points. There's a lot of different ways you could analyze the enneagrams of these characters so it's fun and interesting to hear other people's insights and perspectives! I definitely think Phoebe is a 4 now!

@@nathanduarte_ There are different types of nines. My husband is a nine and he is a lot like Ross. You're allowed to believe what you believe and vice versa. Pheobe is way to head in the clouds dreamer as a nine. But , who know we could all be wrong.

I can’t even figure out my own type and am not very knowledgeable about enneagram, but for fun my own guesses would be that Monica is 1 or maybe 1w2, Ross is 6w5 or 9, Rachel is maybe 3w4 or 6w7, Chandler is probably a 6, but I could also see him as 9 maybe, I feel like Pheobe might be 9w8 and lastly Joey is definitely a 7!

Monica- really though she was a 3! I can see the one. good call!
Ross- one, so particular about how things need to be. Doesn't understand why can't people just go BY THE BOOK of the history about the world!
Rachel- Huge 6! ran out on her wedding TO A DOCTOR. A 3 would never! She is who her family taught her to be and came crawling to there childhood friend on the day she ran out on her wedding. She changes her mind ALL the time. Career driven because she's a hard worker, much like a 6!
Chandler- 5w6! Cannot take stupidity but has his 6 wing to help him have the only other F.R.I.E.N.D.S he has. Doesn't know how to act in public or has any social skills and cannot keep a relationship because of this.
Phoebe- TOTAL 4!! She is who she is regardless of who she is around. She tried being someone else when she met mikes parents and completely failed and to surprised to everyone she talked about growing up in the streets and was eventually herself because she cannot be otherwise.
Joe- obviously correctly 7.
Also, on the scene you included when ross is arguing with Phoebe you see how much Phoebe actually likes to argue. Joe and ross (or chandler?) were talking on halloween day who's more bad ass Phoebe or Monica because Phoebe is not scare to take someone down for the right reasons. She argues with anyone and on the day she met Dave she literary stopped her show to shut them up. She a fight for the right cause hippie.

I was playing along and guessing each character before you said it, and I got them all right except for Ross. y first hunch was that Ross is either a 9 or a 2. As much as he is "specialized" in his field of expertise, he's also really accommodating and has a "softer" side that I recognize in 2 men. I could also see an argument being made for Phoebe being a 7.
both Pheobe and I are aquarius, enfp and type 9 uhhh but I don't really relate to her except for getting distracted easily and being kind of weird

Agree with all of them except Chandler. Chandler is such a low 3 (which does appear like a 6) but motivations are different. He doesn’t feel worthy of love and the way he begged Janis to stay with him in series 3 was EXACTLY like my low type 3 ex did with me.

I'll say it again. You are more than one enneagram type or one mbti type or your astrology sun sign!!!!
There are tri-types in enneagram, cognitive transition into 4 distinct minds/sides of your personality in mbti and a whole birth chart for your astrology report for every planetary & house position etc.
For example, stop arguing about whether Phoebe is a 4 or 9, she is actually both.
She is a 9 in the gut centre, a 4 in the heart centre and a 7 in the head centre. I think the order is 794, she wants to explore but she wants to bring everyone together and likes to see herself as unique and exceptional almost to the point of pretentiousness.
9w8 Exemplified by her mediator, peace-loving, passive aggressive ways. We know she has an 8 wing because she has shared a lot of stories about her more violent responses in times of danger and will defend people and use physical methods when necessary, but she doesn't want to hurt things unnecessarily. Definitely 9 with 8.
As a 4w5, and not as healthy about her feelings as you can see in her relationship with her sister who she does want a relationship with but also resents because they are so different. She does have a pretentious identity issue. Also with not wanting to shop for mass produced stuff or eat meat but then doing it in secret in order to protect this image of herself, she lives in her head too like a 5 and pursues deep knowledge in whatever weird stuff she's into(but this pursuit of knowledge won't last long because it's just her wing and she has many interests as a cerebral enneagram 7. You can rule out 3 because she is not as ambitious for the sake of being seen as competent like a 3. She cares more about fairness and self expression than competence as you can see in her music career. She won't actually try to be a better musician and excel like a 3 but gets upset when someone else who does the hard work gets paid and gets recognition. That's an unhealthy 4.
7w8 When she is competitive it's mostly to have fun and explore something new and different. Just like joey she is uncommitted, but it shows up in her career interests, through the course of the show she juggles so many odd jobs as well as joey juggles relationships, she has way more short lived relationships more than most of the others except Joey. This is also why her and joey are so close and attracted to each other but won't go there, plus they have different values but they get each other.
Forgive my essay but not looking deeper into this is doing yourself a disservice.

Phebee does not run or hid or avoid conflict I think she wants peace in general as in world peace but I see her as a 4. She has her own idenitity and is the most unwavering about standing up for what she believes in Chandler on the other hand avoids conflict he litterally recants and leaves a room whenever he makes even slight mistakes you show the clip of oh we are over we had a fight. He was not committing to girls however Ross decided he liked Carol stuck to her like glue got stuck on Rachel even when he had sex within 24 hours of what he interpreted as a break he stayed both stuck on her and loyal to his mistake of we were on a break. He is loyal to palentalagy he cannot ever admit he is wrong about anything. I don't think he likes learning I think he is educated but we don't see him doing research. I see Rachel as a 3 but I don't see wing 4 more like w2 she is image focused especially at the beginning but she is ambitious. She is not good at working at first but she is ambitious in her plans to work. But she also can be nice to a fault. Monica serves out of a need for perfection and self gratification and self promotion but Rachel gives free coffee when she shouldn't and is trying to help wants to help wants to give back it's not her main thing but is so grateful.

I agree on Joey, Rachel and Phoebe (though I can see how people get 4-she’s a classic 947). I think Monica is a 2w1-she is OBSESSED with being a hostess and literally decided to become a chef because she thought it would make people like her-and I would definitely, DEFINITELY switch Ross and Chandler. Ross clings to the women he’s with and the ideal of marriage, while Chandler is content to just make his jokes and is much more avoidant of real conflict than Ross. Chandler is always correcting ideological inconsistencies for the sake of it, while Ross finds security in science and facts.
