    I too shot with this combination today. Absolutely love the HCD/0,8 with 28. If the slightly SOC sharpness different the corners matter then a very slight sharpening matches the hcd vs hc difference. The hcd is very very slightly less saturated as well than the xcd if we are to nitpick. But if the knowledge of the true differences is known by the user then that goes away with a very slight tweak in phocus and a preset can be made, named and saved and applied with a click of a button. The price of the xcd 21 vs the price of a used hc28 +0,8 is still very big. So rbe only other consideration is weight. If money is no issue and you don't need the TS options that HC lenses offer then the xcd 21 makes more sense. I have the 50-110 and 28 so I am moreee than happy with the HC option. It's down to what is important to the user I suppose.

    Thank you for this great little tip regarding IBIS and the 0.8 converter. Recently purchased a 35-90mm HCD (orange dot) for my X system and Im glad I opted for the standard XH adapter! The results are incredible!
    Funny thing is, the “vanilla” adapter is now listed as Discontinued!

      Thanks for your comment. Interesting that Hasselblad discontinues the standard XH Adapter. As said in the video, making the XH Converter 0.8x compatible with IBIS is a question of firmware. I hope Hasselblad works on it.

    Thanks for doing these Hasselblad deep dives that no one else is doing on youtube. It would be interesting to see if one can use Phocus software to match HC/HCD look to XCD look out of camera. It seems there is generally less overall contrast, microcontrast, and saturation from the H series lenses. Still very good though.

    Hi -- thank you for your explanation.
    I have exactly the same set up as you used. This seems to be the best rig (other than a Cambo Actus) to use Tilt/Shift solutions with the X2D in the field. [One can add H extension tubes and the H macro-converter as well for close up work].
    The Cambo Actus View Camera allows multiple axis shifts/tilt, while the HTS 1.5 only works in a single plane. Obviously a View Camera is more cumbersome. However the results are special.
    I use mine with the HCD 4.8/24mm and the HCC 3.5/50ii and 2.2/100 - attaching to the X2D using either the XH Adapter or the XH Converter 0.8 -- since the HTS 1.5 applies a 1.5x multiplier. It all depends on what field of view I want to apply.
    Phocus 3.7.0 does not seem to show the HTS tilt/shift data which is "interesting". All lenses are using the latest lens firmware (19.1).
    I agree the metadata seems to be "off" - in camera and saved in the files.
    I have tried to "tie-back" all to a 35mm FF equivalents and while I can do the maths my head explodes. I can confirm my spreadsheet shows your maths to be correct. The 35mm equivalent with the XH C0.8 is 27.7mm in my view) -- 28.9-->43.35 which is equivalent to 34.15--> 27.7mm when used with the 0.8.
    WHAT is less clear is what "corrections" does Phocus 3.7.2 apply to images take with the HCD/HC lenses on an HTS and using either the XH adapter or converter 0,8..
    Do you use Phocus OR LRC/ACR? Is it worth you providing an opinion on Phocus -vs- LRC and the benefits of each (excluding file size and file storage concerns). I use Phocus and hand off to LRC using 16-bit Tif files (using Hasselblad L-RGB*) so clearly I do not care about the file sizes.

    Wonderful videos and very useful comments by other photographers.
    My question was asked before but there was no answer. It relates to the use of the 28mm hcd and the 0.8 xh lens adapter and IBIS. It is very clear that with this particular set up with or without 1.5 IBIS does not work on the Hasselblad X2D. The ten million dollar question :
    Does the IBIS work with any of the other Hc or HCD lenses and the 0.8 XH adapter?
    It is understood that the simple XH lens adapter is compatible with many other lenses and IBIS.
    Any specific experiences with the 50-110? 35-90?
    It is so nice to see how interesting photographers share this very high level of technical expertise with the rest of us who share the Hasselblad passion
    Thank you for this utmost wonderful experience all together

    Hi there,
    I really enjoy the completeness of your video. Very detailed well explained info. I recently switched from a Schneider Kreuznach 28mm tilt/shift to this setup. However, I was not able to find an orange dot HCD 28 mm, so I settled with a non-orange dot version, 2nd hand HTS 1.5 and new 0.8 convertor. Unfortunately, NO autofocus. But also NO focus assistant like focus indicator either. I now have to eyeball sharpness. I find this rather difficult in the field. How come we don't get a focus indicator either with an orange HCD 28? Any insights on that?

    HTS on X system doesn't have automatic lens corrections in Phocus software but has it on H system, that's for me a huge disadvantage.
    I use this same orange dot HCD 28 with 1X adapter on my 50 Mpix X cameras and I don't find the sharpness exceptional at all.
    In the center it matches my XCD21, but on the edges it's way less sharp at any aperture.

  • @andyvan5692
    @andyvan5692 Před rokem

    it is the lens set which is the problem, this reduces the internal bore of the tube, so hence you will get vignetting if the ibis works, so if no lenses, there is enough tube diamater to include the ibis max axis travel, so no stepping outside the image circle; and Hasselblad probably won't let their system be degraded by adding flaws, with an inapropriate combination together, and also as the t\s adaptor is involved, it alone could place the picture in this undesirable area of the frame.

    Hi, coming to this a bit late, but "everybody" else who discusses the X / HTS combination describes the lack of lens corrections in Phocus for the HTS. (and in Lr?) as a complete showstopper. You do not seem to find it an issue (although if I understand correctly you don't use Phocus). Also, this might be a bigger issue with tilt... are you able to elaborate? Thanks so much for your efforts and greetings from Ticino.

    Thank you for these insights. Although I find the IBIS not working with the 0,8 adapter really annoying. Did you try it out with some other lens, only to exclude that it is just the combo 0.8+28mm?
    I really hope they will fix this.
    Sometimes Hasselblad seems to implement things only half way. Also with H-lenses and the Adapter (in my case on X1D II) Auto-Magnification doesn't work, when you turn the focus-ring in manual mode.
    And what I also really miss on the X-System is the implementation of true-focus. Often I would prefer this to shift around a focus point instead.

    • @mathphotographer
      @mathphotographer  Před rokem +1

      True Focus is what I most miss, to be honest. Its such a great feature on the H6D and it should not be problematic to implement in also on the X2D - would love to see this coming in a firmware upgrade.

    hi,thank you for this very informative and surprisingly entertaining video given all the math. I was wondering if you've played with the hcd 300mm lens? Does that work for a telephone for the x system? And in general, do you think it is worth it to try h lenses on the xcd system?

    • @mathphotographer
      @mathphotographer  Před rokem

      Hi Zheng, thanks for your positive feedback. I think its absolutely worthwhile to shoot H-lenses on X-cameras since very often the image circle of H-lenses is larger than what the X2D-sensor needs so that you use only the juicy inner part of the lens for an image which dramatically improves image quality. I did not try the HCD 300 because I currently do not have access to this lens.

    Any thoughts on how this may compare to using a Canon TS-E 24mm or 17mm with a Canon-Hasselblad adapter in terms of optical quality? It certainly is smaller and less clunky than the set up you show (I'm not sure which system would allow more shift before vignetting or corner optical weakness becomes a serious problem). Thanks!

    Sorry to say, and I'm not a hater.. I'm Hasselblad at heart.. FILM HASSELBLAD. The company has lost it in the digital field. Not longer producing the H system, the lenses were made by fuji and the sensors by Sony.
    Talking about tilt and shift photography.. I'm a worldwide interiors photographer. (LA, SF, NYC, Paris) Shifts are almost mandatory AND WIDE ANGLES !! so seeing a 28mm going with adaptors and adaptors.. and plastic knots (with H prices) and finally have 40mm.. THAT"S A NO.
    I had 2 digital H system Hasselblad and they are GONE.
    Currently using ALPA camera from Switzerland, German lenses super wide angles to extended movements from Rodenstock and Danish PhaseOne sensors from 100MP to 150MP.
    Hasselblad has been bought by DJI and it is dead, Simple as that. No Fujiblad, thank you.
