Went to Guitar Center and I was blanking out on what classical piece to play, so I just hummed some tunes. Forgive my faltering singing voice (I was almost just whispering this so no one else can hear), but I was just thinking about this Original Pilipino Music (OPM) song which was popular back in the 90s when I was young and we were the ones next in line. Our generation had been through the worst in the Philippines - Martial Law, several people power revolutions, countless army coup d'é·tat, daily 20-hr. power outages, Mt. Pinatubo, earthquakes, no cellphones…you name it. Years later, I’m just singing this for the next generation of Filipinos who hopefully will do better than us. We also had the best of times in the Philippines when homegrown music such as this one took off and we finally found our identity.
